    What was your biggest takeaway from today’s video? Let me know in the comments below?

      Hello Rachel. My biggest takeaway from this video is the potential for financial freedom. I've spent most of my life working for someone else. We have been self employed since we were married back in the 80's and have done ok, and have always dealt with the ups and downs of self employment as they came along. Recently came across KDP and have been doing pretty extensive research. My wife is a teacher at an online high school. Needless to say she (and I) have a thousand ideas and when we found KDP it set our little brains in motion and we're going to go at it full steam. Thanks for the good advice and well done videos. Looking forward to more in the future.

    Good video. Self Publishing is not advertised as it deserves. There is a much lower barrier entry, and a much lower competition compared to 99% of other online businesses. We've published books 4 years ago and the results are insane! (even after 4 years from the first publication)

    I've been watching your videos for several months and (slowly) working on my first LC books. I'm getting ready to publish the first one, I hope this Tuesday. My biggest takeaway from today's video? I've made very little income for years on my previous nonfiction books. I keep wondering if I'll make anything on these LC books or is it just more wasted time? BUT, watching this video I realized what I am doing right now is "validating my business"! I have plans to release 18 - 20 LC books regularly over the next months. Will any of them sell? Will I make any income? Remains to be seen. However it's incredibly freeing to look at this as validating my business to see if it becomes a "proven business" that makes a positive cash flow month after month. This encourages me to move forward. We'll see if my business model works...or not. Either way is valuable to know. Thanks, Rachel.

    Hi, Rachel. This was very useful, thank you! I came upon this video because I was wondering about the copyright symbol and if I was able to use it without any kind of registration to my brand. I have a Pen name and my logo, but as I have only started KDP LCB self-publishing, I wasn´t sure about the copyright page you mentioned in one of your videos. Could you please clear this up for me?
    Thank you so much! Very valuable information!

    Get busy. This is the perfect business model in my view. Build it once and sell it over and over again. The work I do now is finite. I have to build, rebuild and install day after day. I don't get paid until I complete a job. So, I plan to use that bad business model to build something I can sell day after day without having to build it day after day. I am a contractor, install and repair projects that I do myself but I know there is a better way. I listen to your videos working out and appreciate your unselfish advice. Thank you very much!

    Rachel, I've been watching you for awhile - (love the content) and I think what's really stopping me from going KDP is I've heard how complicated it can be to set up an account. Would you consider doing a video on that?

    Very educational, thank you. I have my own company which I use to provide consulting services, but I'd like to add a new line of business with KDP. I'm trying to set up my business KDP account but I'm struggling with the tax withholding questions. I believe that Canadian companies don't pay double taxes because of the treaty so the 30% tax withholding should not apply. But how did you set up the LOB (Limitation on Benefits) for a regular Canadian Corp. for the 0% withholding to be applied? I can't figure out which of all the available options I need to use (e.g. Company that meets the ownership and base erosion test?) If you remember from when you created your canadian business KDP account, could you please let me know? thanks in advance!

    Very helpful Rachel. I have your program and it's been very helpful as well. I'm at the point where we're talking about mailchimp and setting that up. I'm just starting out and only have about 20 books. 3 children's books and the rest journals. I have 2 pen names, my own and one I made up. My question is, how do I set up my social media accounts for my books? I have my personal accounts under my name but since one of my author names is my name how do I separate it from my personal social media accounts? And in Mailchimp, do I use my personal address, email and phone number?

    I wouldn't start a second KDP account under a company name if I were you, even if it is technically allowed under their terms. I've never really understood why anyone would want multiple accounts (unless maybe they were thinking of selling one in the future but that is way down the line and you can always start another after you sell the first) or why KDP doesn't allow it but they are really serious about it so I wouldn't upload books to two different accounts from the same IP address.
    Also, you don't need a business to write off expenses. You can deduct expenses from personal self employed taxes too (at least here in the UK).

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  2 года назад +2

      I haven't done this personally, but many have done so without issue. I would only expect problems if a person isn't following the rules. Good tip about writing off expenses if you're self-employed; I don't know what the rules are in other countries but it's definitely worth checking out.

    Great video. What did you do before you created a corporation to snag customer email addresses? I was thinking to create an LLC and website or at least a landing page to offer a freebie to get the customer's email address. KDP doesn't make it easy to create an email list. Thanks!

    • @RachelHarrisonSund

      Hi Janet! Even before I incorporated I started collecting email addresses by offering a freebie by way of a landing page. I just used my brand name and my own name as the contact.

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  2 года назад +1

      The "and more" could include guest books, log books, activity and coloring books, puzzle books, blank recipe books-basically any book that falls into the "low-content" book category. I don't have any experience with picture books, but the many of the fundamentals are the same.

      Unfortunately for me after 2 years of trying everything, sales were not happening for me so I jumped ship. That's not to say it won't work for you, with the right niche and unique ideas you can get there. I now still remain in the book industry however, I am now writing and working on my first fiction book and hope to be traditionally published 🤞🏻.

      @@dannywheatley6614 thanks for responding. I have had moderate success with LCB but have decided to move into high content books and want to keep those entirely separate. I have paid for 2 to be ghost written which has been a major expense and I had to sell some stuff to fund it so it is scary if I get it wrong but I feel like I have to at least give it a go.

      @@Tootcee I was on a very small to no budget so that made it a little more difficult for me.
      My idea was to create low content as a foundation to replace my wage to give me the time to work on my stories but then when it didn't workout I just thought, cut out the middle man and just write the stories, I'm so glad I did as I'm now loving it .
      Definitely agree, you need to give it ago, even with me, doing over 2 years of research and creating content to sell only 3 to 4 books, I still don't regret it 😊
