This guy uses a battery operated amp because electricity is not always available in his country! Wow...think about that for a second. We take so much for granted. This dude is for real, he's got the spirit.

It's so amazing watching this man make a name for himself in the Western music world without the influence of pop music, without managers or producers. And to see him so open hearted and humble makes me feel emotional. It's the ultimate success story.

Don’t mean to be rude I appreciate your sentiment, but Africa is a continent (most diverse and second largest on earth as well) he comes from the country of Niger (pronounced Neeshjer). I’m from South Africa and it’s kind of a pet peeve for myself and many other African people haha. Still thanks for the sentiment!

I saw Mdou and his band at a small venue was really struck at just how "psychedelic" his tones were. There was definitely a Hendrix thing happening but it wasn't like your typical bar band Hendrix wannabe, it was cosmic and soulful and touched on something very rare and colorful. The tempos of the band were all over the place within the songs but that also allowed the music to take on a life of it's own. Go see him if you get the chance.

Mdou has a few different tunings he uses (from low to high) with capo usually on the third fret:
    E A D G B E (standard)
    G A D G B E
    G A# D G B E
When playing live, both rhythm guitar and bass are tuned up:
    F A# D# G# C F
