Appreciate the mention and link. It does appear that the person filing the lawsuit got the idea from our article. Do I think MiCs will ever be available in retail channels? No. However, it is misleading to call their replica "authentic". Can you name another company that produces 2 different versions of the same product and calls the substandard version "authentic"? You can see many stories on reddit of people new to collecting now feeling duped because they thought they were buying what the players wear. Either way, we have a video on our channel that tries to further explain. Let us know if you ever want to share a cast on this topic or other NHL jersey related topics.
When CCM had the jersey contract, they sold the MiC on-ice jerseys to the public. Those were pro weight w/ fight strap and we're called authentic. Any jerseys sold, that didn't have the fight strap, were replicas.
There are now fanatics and authentic jersey that some teams do now with the fight strap is authentic and the other is a loser fit style. The person need to see what team has authentic jersey and what is a fanatic style
Nike sells their on feild and on court authentic jerseys for MLB NFL and NBA. They sell those roughly $450. Adidas is the only company that doesn't sell their on ice authentic jerseys they should which is the MiC jersey. Give the level of jerseys which would be nice. Because Reebok did that.
Agreed 💯 percent. Even if they are 499 and up......the MiC (made in Canada) are worth every penny. The MiC Quality is well above the standards of the "authentic" made in Indonesia jerseys.
@@josephbrancato1883 no one is spending 500 + tax so 540 bucks on a jersey especially collectors id much rather 3 jerseys than one with different shoulders lol
@@Colbyw74 Are you sure about that? There is a surprisingly large collector base out there who will currently spend that or more on the few MiCs that hit the market. Hell, this past season, the Dallas Stars released a limited run of 100 or so Sergei Zubov retirement night MiCs at $450 USD a pop just for the blanks, and they sold out in mere minutes. Will the average collector spend that much money on a single jersey? Absolutely not. But there is clearly a market for actual authentic jerseys and Adidas has made that facet of collecting prohibitively difficult and expensive (even more so than the proposed $500 retail MiC, as some rarer designs go for upwards of $1000 blank or game issued). This wasn't an issue until Adidas took over either, as this is the first time since the late 1980s where there is no retail authentic option whatsoever.
I personally don't see why they don't sell their MiC jerseys to the public, even for the price you just stated. I'd ask Adidas, but last time they were asked, they refused to comment on it.
I agree with Florida man (weird to say, lol). As a longtime jersey collector I’ve seen the rise and fall of quality. We went from tank jerseys to this coolbase garbage with heat pressed letters. Now the term “authentic” to the layman means, what the pros wear, especially at $250 plus. As a fan it’s also frustrating to not be able to buy a pro jersey.
If you watch THG’s take on this situation, his take is that “authentic” is referring to authentic NHL licensed merchandise and that they never marketed these jerseys as game-worn. With that being said, unless you are a jersey collector or researched, the average person would likely be deceived by the verbiage. Will be interesting to see what happens.
THG is incorrect. Some were marketed that way. A description for an Oilers jersey reads "this jersey is the same as the one Oilers players wear when the puck drops on the road".
@@TealTownUSA I’ve seen a couple of those pictures and it’s from the Predators site. And maybe that’s false advertising on the terms of the Predators not so much adidas. But I definitely see how it can be confusing
In that case, the replicas are “authentic” too since they are licensed. Some people mix up replica and fake which are two totally different things but when you buy an “authentic” jersey from the source, it is supposed to be what the players wear on ice, or at least pretty damn close to it.
I think it matters in the fact that they are marketing something as authentic and it’s just a replica. I believe they are marking up the price because they are calling them authentics. Jerseys are too expensive nowadays as it is.
I heard the term “Replithentic” used for NBA jerseys once. Basically they were like you describe: Cut and color is the same as what the NBA would authorize, but it’s NOT what the players wear. Adidas could change the high end jerseys to that name and life would go on.
Agreed. I think they'll end up settling and changing the name. A lot of people (The Hockey Guy specifically) are viewing this like a criminal case where you have to prove intent (i.e. did Adidas intentionally mislead) beyond a reasonable doubt. As a civil case, all that has to be proven here is that based on probabilities, it's more likely than not that, to a reasonable person, they would believe that the authentic jerseys were the same as the on-ice product and that they suffered damages for doing so (i.e. paying an extra $100 over getting a Fanatics).
This is the reason why I only buy Fanatics jerseys. Paying an extra $100 for "Authentic" and its not even what players wear is just weird. Yes the materials are better and some finer details can be seen (if it's right in front of your face). But it's still not an on-ice product. I hope the lawsuit results in Adidas rebranding them to "replica".
I collect game worn and MiC, and nothing compares. However, I did try on a Fanatics Breakaway in a retail store, and I enjoyed how comfortable they feel. I would actually consider wearing them for daily casual wear, although I hear they snag and wear our easily.
I suspect that Adidas will allege that by “authentic” they mean “authorized” - as in, not a knockoff. The primary meaning of the word is “of undisputed origin”.
To be fair, it won't matter what they "meant" (i.e. Adidas' intent). As long as it can be proven that it is more likely than not that to a reasonable person "authentic" means "on ice" they're in trouble. I think they'll settle and change the description.
Personally I respect and appreciate the fact that someone has the balls to sue these POS’s. At the end of the day is he going to win, probably not but at the same time these companies NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE or at the very least publicly criticized/shamed for their SHADEY BUSINESS PRACTICES!! This BS of companies being able to get away with FLAT OUT LYING because of a technicality needs to stop! Why is it so much to ask for them to be 100% HONEST AND TRANSPARENT?
I have had a similar issue with NFL jerseys. They didn’t sell the jerseys with the elastic in the arm band to the public. I called the Nike HQ and asked them directly. I was looking for any type of way to get one just from the store shelf basically. They said those are for the players only. After some time I started to see those jerseys with the higher quality material and the elastic armband in the sleeves on NFL’s shop site. So it worked don’t know how many others had a similar push for that style of jersey but I know I pestered them directly for a year lol.

Back in the days of CCM... there were Authentic Jerseys (On Ice Quality just like the players) and Replicas (slightly lower quality that's affordable) THAT'S IT!! Not like the crap today: Authentic, Premier, Replica, Fanatics Authentic, Fanatics Tier 2 or whatever dumb labels they throw out to confuse people. Hell, back in the day there were no Chinese Knockoffs either.
How about naming the on-ice MiC jerseys "Professional", retail "Authentic" and the lowest tier is "Replica"? I dunno, just kinda spitballing. I have a Primegreen Dark Arizona Coyotes Kachina, and the date tag isn't there.

The date on the little tag blew my mind! I looked at my Adidas MiC jerseys that I have and they have that little tag as well. The 1 Adidas button jersey I have was 06/17 as well, so seems like that was when those first runs were made for Adidas.
Of course he’s wasting his time. That being said, he’s 100% correct. It drives me nuts that you can’t get actual authentic/team issued NHL jerseys. It’s even worse how these replicas are misrepresented/incorrectly labeled. I believe it was already addressed in another comment how other professional sports leagues sell actual authentic jerseys. Warranting the label. Feels like Adidas is simply taking advantage of that “marketing title” and/or loophole. They know fans want authentic products and are willing to pay for them.
Check out the official team stores for MiC jerseys as well, the Stars sell team issued blank jerseys for $325 US on their Hangar Hockey site, and the Jets sell them too on their team store site too for around the same price. Other teams may as well but I'm Stars and Jets fan so I don't know.
The fanatics jerseys & the “authentic” adidas labeling is confusing- my dad was trying to be nice & get me a few jerseys for xmas (him knowing i only like authentic quality jersey’s) & he got confused ordering them; 3 out of 4 were the cheaper Fanatics versions, only one came as (adidas)”authentic” 😤

I actually didn't know the thing about the Adidas button or the date tag. I was given a jersey in the holiday season of 2021, a road McDavid Authentic Jersey, and it actually had the button, being produced 03/18 according to the tag, so it looks like the jersey's with the buttons were produced until at least around the end of the 2017-18 season. My 40th Anniversary Authentic Leon Draisaitl Jersey was produced in 07/18 and it doesn't have a button. Though that is only two uniforms to go off, I would hazard a guess that they stopped producing the button during the 2018 off season.
The born on date is where the Adidas tag is inside the neck so when you cur the target off look at the piece it was attached to that's where the date tag is just inside the neck
I actually own a one of a kind Florida panthers jerseys that was going to be Jamie McGinns but got recustomized after he got injured when he was traded from the coyotes and I can tell you the materials and customization is far different from what’s on the replica jerseys for sure I actually remember that the edge 1.0 jerseys used an nhl shield that was changed because the players complained that it scratched their necks so the edge 2.0 ones are made out of a nice suede fabric that’s far softer than the premier jerseys
Neil, I can’t find a date on my Primegreen Kraken Jersey either. That is sad because it would be cool to know how long ago the Kraken jersey was produced.
This was by far one of the coolest videos I’ve watched, just seeing how early my Preds jerseys were made (reverse retro, away jersey, etc) can’t wait to share this with my friends! Thanks Neil!
I have 5 Prime Green jerseys. Minnesota home, Florida home, Colorado home and both Seattle jereys. The tags all have a BOD of 06/21. They are located inside the back part of the collar on the more to the left (left arms side).
Oh that Florida Man. Always up to some kind of shenanigans. So obviously I went to check my jerseys. Got a few 19 and 20s I have 5 with a button. Home Vegas - 03/18 Home Leafs - 03/18 Away Oilers McDavid - 02/18 Home Wild - 06/17 (this is the 1st Adidas jersey I ever bought. Don't care for the team at all but I just really like the Jersey it was such an impulse buy) Then my last Jersey with a button is the 2018 Stadium Series Leafs Jersey that is labeled 12/17 so there is a fun nugget for ya Neil.
The current Primegreen authentics are a reasonable price/quality for what it is.It looks badass and just feels legit! The MiC ones would be awesome but I'm not skating with them on,lmao.
Thanks for sharing that manufacture date tag on the adidas jersey . I use that to help people ID the difference between a fake and legit and that could be helpful for new collectors
If he's not wrong then by definition he is right. To be honest I hope he is successful to a degree, insofar that I hope it makes Adidas consider selling them at a more appropriate price for a "high end" replica. $200 USD is and always has been ridiculous considering how little they cost to make. Adidas don't need us on their side defending their interests. They're one of the biggest sportswear corporations in the world. We should all be on the side of anything which makes things more affordable for regular fans.
@@Post2PostProductions Thanks for the quick reply. It will be a bit difficult to get to a Canadian sports retail store in person, as I live in Australia. But I will keep a lookout for anything online. By the way loved the clip with you and the goat spinning for a jersey.
I hear him but to me authentic always meant stitched and replica was ironed on number and such. There is so much misleading and false advertisment it's crazy u just gotta have the money to sue.
I think The Hockey Guy has dates on his Primegreens. I can't remember if it's on the removeable purchase tag, an internal tag, or inside. If you watch one of his Primegreen unboxings he should explain it in them. Try the Seattle Kraken unboxing!
Then my question is this...why add the fight straps? Seriously that just as shady as those fakes made by Chinese companies. The strap was kind of a standard for collectors to know if it was real or not. They should of just allowed customers to buy MiC Jersey's then *shocker* no lawsuit.
.....BIGGEST issue with the Fanatics replicas is there being NO embroidered crest - yet PRICED at what was once not SO long ago, 'authentic' costs.....
Both my Penguins and Flames jerseys are from June 2017 Checked a few Reeboks and they also have the dates. James Neal Pens from August 2011 and Rantanen Aves jersey from May 2015.
I think that this guy really wont benefit from the lawsuit, but it'll benefit people who are uneducated about the difference between the MiC and the MiI jerseys, because I wasn't even aware of the differences until I got into collecting a handful of jerseys
I’m glad someone is doing something even though it won’t amount to anything but the Indonesian jerseys are trash compared to MiC’s! I have some old reebok edge 2.0’s and they make adidas look like shit ! The jerseys we are able to buy are nothing more than reebok premiers pure trash! I have some MiC jerseys and I’m glad to pay 500 dollars for them just allow me to have the option
I hope at least that people can know the so called Authentic jersey are not the ones that are worn on ice. I knew this quite a long time ago so I've always considered them as replicas (indos - made in Indonesia) from the MiC (made in Canada) so I never wanted to pay full retail price for one of them. I was able to pick up a Habs MiC from Tricolore Sports last summer and paid a high price for it as I know it is not easy to get one and it feels kind of special to have one.
"Authentic" is vague enough to mean "it's a real adidas jersey" or "product matches specifications given on website". Good energy calling out Adidas for betting on consumers not knowing the difference, but I don't think the case would go anywhere legally. MiC jerseys are a great collector's item, but collectors are likely a small part of the market. Increasing MiC to retail volume may end up driving up prices. Depending on team and location, you can get an MiC for just a bit more than a customized Indo jersey (like having to go in person to LCA for Wings MiC).
The most disappointing part about the change is the sizing is not accurate. Clothing companies will always try to get away with using less material when they can but these Adidas Authentic numbered sizes are nowhere close to reality. A normal 60 will allow me to put a jersey over my chest protector with plenty of room. The Adidas 60 I'm lucky to get player shoulder and elbow pads to fit and they barely do.
Also Adidas failed on the standard sizing on all their jerseys . Wether it was an NBA or NHL jersey. We know jerseys are supposed to be baggy but nah let’s make it tighter . If you see the documentary Behind the B’s see Patrice Bergeron wearing the winter classic jersey and saying “the jersey is tighter “ and struggles to wear it
I mean cmon like I see this for pricing but at the end of the day wear the sweater for your team. Just support and wear if you want to show your support and respect.
8:54 I have a question about the date tag. Is it displayed as mm/yy? Since my jersey says 10/19 (assuming it's October 2019). But I ordered my jersey in late 2020 with a custom name and number. So was the jersey itself manufactured in 2019, but the name and number was added later after I ordered it?
The date is month/year, you are correct. If you got it custom stitched, the date does not reflect when the jersey was stitched, only when the jersey itself was originally produced.
i have 18 jerseys that fit me 7 reebok 5 adidas 6 fanatics ngl the fanatics are my favorite because they are the most comfortable the logo and materials are just better to wear especially bc of the fight strap on adidas and the logo seams
What does the button mean? I have a Liverpool jersey from the 10/11 season that is the alternate I have only the Kings RR and this years alternate I have and they don’t have the button on it
@@Post2PostProductions granted it could be late July and the others were made early August, or they split production so half were made in July. Still pretty cool though!
Have you checked any of your Reeboks for the date tag? The Reeboks I have also have this date stamp which is a great way to organise my collection I've also checked my Leafs jersey with the centennial patch and addidas and the button. Again my jersey dates to 06/17...
Stop that: everything you think you know about the McDonald’s hot coffee lawsuit is wrong, and nearly certainly the result of vile propaganda by McDonalds. If you were holding a cup of coffee in a stationary car - no, it was not moving - and it *ate through the cup* and _burned off your genitals_, would you just go “oh well”? I doubt it.
So why buy the authentic for 260$$ over the fanatics which is much cheaper I mean wtf. You say authentic it should be authentic or don't use the name !!!!

Neil, I can’t find a date on my Primegreen Kraken Jersey either. That is sad because it would be cool to know how long ago the Kraken jersey was produced.
Someone mentioned it in the comments. The tag is inside near the shoulder.
I checked my Reebok Bruins jersey and found it was made in 06/16.
Any story that starts "a Florida man..." Has me on edge waiting to see what he did to what inanimate object while on what drugs.. Lol..
This was by far one of the coolest videos I’ve watched, just seeing how early my Preds jerseys were made (reverse retro, away jersey, etc) can’t wait to share this with my friends! Thanks Neil!
They’re in a different spot on the prime greens. Up round the shoulder/neck area for memory
Got a few 19 and 20s
I have 5 with a button.
Home Vegas - 03/18
Home Leafs - 03/18
Away Oilers McDavid - 02/18
Home Wild - 06/17 (this is the 1st Adidas jersey I ever bought. Don't care for the team at all but I just really like the Jersey it was such an impulse buy)
Then my last Jersey with a button is the 2018 Stadium Series Leafs Jersey that is labeled 12/17 so there is a fun nugget for ya Neil.
The current Primegreen authentics are a reasonable price/quality for what it is.It looks badass and just feels legit!
The MiC ones would be awesome but I'm not skating with them on,lmao.
I just bought a MiC one and I only plan on keeping it in my closet
Very enlightening topic, I was also wondering which "Leafs" jersey you were wearing and where to get it?
That is the Reverse Retro and still available in many Canadian sports retail stores.
If you own any adidas NHL hats or t-shirts, they have the born on date tags also.
Both my Penguins and Flames jerseys are from June 2017
Checked a few Reeboks and they also have the dates. James Neal Pens from August 2011 and Rantanen Aves jersey from May 2015.
the date on the primegreen jerseys is the neck to the right of the back of the collar
Breakaway jerseys also have the date tag.
Avs 2/18 with button
Caps 2/ 20
Hawks 6/18
well when CCM had the license it was either authentic and replica, and both were far superior quality to what they are calling authentic today.
The only MIc I won for addias is the game worn jersey I won after a Canucks game
Thanks for the Easter egg. My Price MTL home jersey (which I got out of a tricoloresports mystery bag by the way) has the button and was dated 02/18
No that’s definitely good information about the date on the tags when you’re wondering if the jersey is counterfeit or not
The most disappointing part about the change is the sizing is not accurate.
My Florida man story on my birthday is "Florida man arrested for having sex with miniature horse on multiple occasions, deputies say"
Oldest adidas one I have is 2/18 with the button on it.
I've got a few Canucks CCM and Reebok jerseys that are made in Canada though and say Authentic
primegreen its on the shoulder
The dates for prime greens are in the collar on the left
Are the Prime Green jersey worn by the players?
Yes, but only MiC Prime Green.
@@Post2PostProductions mine has the date tag inside one of the shoulders, very happy!
My primegreen has a tiny sticker on the tag that says QC 5.1, maybe that's the date?
It is always worth it to prove a point.
3:47 Theo Fleury did wear a fan's signed white retail jersey on ice before being told no by NHL officials.
When where why
My adam Henrieque ducks jersey that was also produced in 6/17
He is right 100 % we pay 275.99 for jerseys they should be Authentic
The tag that says the date is on the inside of the right sleeve at the top
I got a Buffalo Sabres heritage classic jersey that’s prime green and there isn’t a production date tag
In prime green jersey the date of the birth of the jerseys is on the top left inside of the neck area
Checked my Colorado GW from last season and the little tag read 11/19
8:54 I have a question about the date tag. Is it displayed as mm/yy? Since my jersey says 10/19 (assuming it's October 2019). But I ordered my jersey in late 2020 with a custom name and number. So was the jersey itself manufactured in 2019, but the name and number was added later after I ordered it?
The date is month/year, you are correct. If you got it custom stitched, the date does not reflect when the jersey was stitched, only when the jersey itself was originally produced.
@@Post2PostProductions Thanks :)
i have 18 jerseys that fit me 7 reebok 5 adidas 6 fanatics ngl the fanatics are my favorite because they are the most comfortable the logo and materials are just better to wear especially bc of the fight strap on adidas and the logo seams
I have a kaprizov jersey that was made in 2018 idk how that would make sense cause he didn’t play in the nhl until last year
The jersey must have been made blank in 2018. And someone later customized it when Kaprizov entered the league.
I didn’t know this stuff and kinda wish I didn’t 😕 lol
What does the button mean? I have a Liverpool jersey from the 10/11 season that is the alternate I have only the Kings RR and this years alternate I have and they don’t have the button on it
Got you beat on the Reverse Retro, just checked the tag on my Bruins one and it was dated 7/20 🖤💛
Oh snap!
@@Post2PostProductions granted it could be late July and the others were made early August, or they split production so half were made in July. Still pretty cool though!
This is a tough one. I wonder how much more they would sell for if they were MiC.
My best guess would be $350+, the Reebok Edge 2.0’s were $450ish CAD from what I remember.
PG top by the shoulder for date
Have you checked any of your Reeboks for the date tag? The Reeboks I have also have this date stamp which is a great way to organise my collection
I've also checked my Leafs jersey with the centennial patch and addidas and the button. Again my jersey dates to 06/17...
I've not actually! I will do that though
Rebook was bought by Adidas . Adidas then decked ti out their name on the jerseys.
Adidas since sold Rebook.
Sadly if someone can win millions from McDonald over a cup of coffee being too hot, I wouldn’t blink an eye if he wins.
Are you implying his lawsuit isn’t justified?
Stop that: everything you think you know about the McDonald’s hot coffee lawsuit is wrong, and nearly certainly the result of vile propaganda by McDonalds.
If you were holding a cup of coffee in a stationary car - no, it was not moving - and it *ate through the cup* and _burned off your genitals_, would you just go “oh well”? I doubt it.
Fun little game here, when were your guy's NHL adidas jersey's produced?
I chcked the tag and my leafs Tavares jersey was produced in November 2018
Damn never saw this coming 🤯honestly adidas sucks for jerseys I love the Reebok ccm there the best
Avs RR 8/20
Sharks 30th 6/20
Sharks Home with button 6/17
Prime green is probably manufactured in a different country. That’s why the tag isn’t there maybe
It's in the inside shoulder. Couple people in the comments pointed it out.
@@Post2PostProductions great videos I really enjoy them btw
yes, it is worth it to pursue the lawsuit so that fans aren’t duped.
Looking at my Primegreen Barkov jersey as I write this comment. I found the production date on neck!
So why buy the authentic for 260$$ over the fanatics which is much cheaper I mean wtf. You say authentic it should be authentic or don't use the name !!!!
Fanatics is 100% not the same in any way. Different company, different fit, different material, different quality.
@@Post2PostProductions I think he means what the Fanatics website calls "authentic" sells for $250 numbered, while their Breakaway "fan" jerseys sell for about $175 with numbering.
