I always look out for the best content and let me tell you, I'm looking at it right now. top notch information, you get to the important aspects of Acting. Thank you sir.
Let us know in advance if you ever do a script analysis class online. I find sometimes that is SO important, and that the sides picked by the CD are chosen because they're asking you to mine certain information and present your reaction and/or read of it. It can be tricky. I feel like we fall into the traps sometimes..
2005?!? I took my first professional theatre gig in '92, and my first film was in '94. Quit making me feel OLD, Matthew!!! :P Great stuff, as always! :)
Man, this was SO good. From “I already look good” which made me cackle, to that Horatio scene lmaooo. Great tips as always, big hug to you guys, happy holidays!
Great as always! Question: I have seen actors who put together an actual "set" for their self tapes. For example, the character is a teacher sitting at their desk speaking to the student in front of them. The actor sets up a desk with props and such and delivers the audition that way. Is this actually encouraged or too much?
I say go crazy IF it doesn’t show up on screen. The problem becomes that actors think that showing those props, set pieces, and wardrobe will somehow “win over” the decision makers. It doesn’t work that way. I’m more a fan of subtle lighting changes to support the tone of the scene.
There’s the rub. In my first sample, that’s the general framing for most Casting Directors. So 3 feet is all you can do. If you can shoot in 4K, then you could pull back further and then either do a digital zoom to the correct cropping, or do a digital zoom in your editing program. The best way to find out is to do some tests with your setup to compare the final image.
I look forward to these videos every week. So helpful! Thank you Brooke and Matt!
You’re so welcome Christy! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!!

This is so true. And we’ll consider offering that at some point.

Hey Matt! So how far back do you recommend an iPhone and/or an iPad camera for best results?

Or, when you read for certain CDs and they want "waist up" shots.
Which... makes no sense to me... lol Do you NOT want to see our eyes???
