Still remember when I first rented Resident Evil in 1996 at Blockbuster Video and played it for three days straight. Got really far into the game, had it saved on a memory card until I was able to purchase the game and then finished it. Later, when RE2 dropped on PS1, I went ahead and bought it at GameStop after I left work. Arrived at home and played Claire's disc first. Half way through the game I started to play Leon's campaign. It was an exciting time in the late nineties and the RE franchise was still in its beginnings. Soon afterwards, I could not wait for RE3. Since my PS had a mod chip to play import games, I decided to go ahead and buy Biohazard 3 (Nemesis) and once opened , played it through an entire two nights until completed. It was fun having played and finished it before Capcom releasing RE Nemesis in the States. In the meantime, friends living down a few blocks from me had a Sega Dreamcast and were playing Code Veronica, I'd come over and partake in some missions until the end. Another cool rare gem was Resident Evil - Survivor, a first person shooter, which a friend had given me a copy of on a CD-R disc. Since having Namco's Time Crisis and Guncon in hand, why not. Not until I had an Xbox 360, did I have some catching up to do with the RE stories. Ultimately, it took me a long time to buy a used Xbox 360 at a pawn shop in 2017 or so, alongside a copy of RE4 and RE5, and RE Racoon City. Did not finish the games due to busier life and access to too many spoilers online. RUclips etc. Although, I will commend this compilation of a video with the history and telling of such classics. @@Webbygears yeah, but a series of the events of the first games intertwined with flashbacks playing alongside of how it all started. They could do shorts within the series focusing on flash backs based on the journal entries you find in the mansion. Focus the bulk on the mansion then lab and then raccoon city. Theres loads going on in zero, 1, 2 and three to do a TV series for years. Make some tweaks. Problem is they just churn out garbage, I was so buzzing for mortal kombat after the advert and I couldn't believe how bad it was
I think with the RE2 Remake, Claire does everything first. With the parking garage, it's hard to explain. But there's no vehicle in the wall (courtesy of Ada). That's all I can really explain about the parking garage. However, in the sewers, it could be either or. However, the best way I can explain how Claire goes first in everything is NEST. It is only explained near the end, but it makes sense. When Claire needs to get the antiviral agent, you can see that it is locked. When Leon goes to the west area to retrieve the G-Virus sample, the case is unlocked, with the pendant visible in the "keyhole" (not really a keyhole), and one antiviral agent is missing. More proof that Claire goes first is Annette's death. Annette faked her death in Claire's campaign after giving Claire the Admin chip for the elevator. Now going to Leon, Annette does not have the chip anymore, and Ada has to hack the elevator. Furthermore, when Claire goes back to Annette and Sherry after dealing with G (phase 3). When in the room, you can hear that the intercom says that there was a removal of a level 4 virus. So then, Claire is given the chip, and goes down the elevator. At that moment, Annette goes to see Leon and G, where she delivers the information that Ada is a mercenary. Another note is that when Claire takes the elevator, the bridge to the west area is not destroyed. Finally, the final bit of information that Claire goes first is the self destruct. Claire's self destruct timer starts in the room with the 3 Ivys, whereas Leon's timer begins after Ada's presumed death. So then Claire gets Sherry into the train, and goes to get the train moving (before fighting G phase 4). There, she speaks with Leon, who is in the monitor room right after you get off the elevator. Finally, before Leon can make it to the path that takes him to the train room (where Claire is), something explodes, blocking his path, where Mr. X grabs him. More explosions go off, and the floor collapses, temporarily separating Leon and Mr. X. Finally, Leon fights Mr. X, and finally kills the tyrant. Then, he gets off the descending platform where he fought Mr. X. Finally, Leon kills a few more zombies, and then gets on the train that Claire was able to get running after her fight with G phase 4. That is how Claire canonically does everything first. Also, in the back of the train where Leon or Claire fight and finally put an end to G phase 5. I like to think Claire should end G phase 5, as the game built up her big bad to be G, since the Mr. X going after her was killed early on. Unlike Claire's campaign, Leon's Mr. X remains alive and still torments him even through NEST (making a brief appearance in the east area). The big bad of Leon's campaign is Mr. X, so to me, the build up of Mr. X being Leon's big bad is ruined if he fights G phase 5. That's why it makes more sense if Claire fights G phase 5 at the back of the train.
Well stated and not to rain on your parade but capcom said clearly all the way back in the ps1 era and the original RE2 that canonically Claire A/Leon B is how the story goes. Your notes are great but they serve less as proof of this and more proof of the effort of storytelling by the development staff to hold true to Claire A/Leon B being the canon scenario sequence.

It was mind-blowing when I first found that out. He was a student to Miranda with a contradicting perspective. Spencer aim for the "new world" (upon discovering the progenitor virus from Africa) while Miranda just wanted to revive her own child: Eva (with the use of megamycete with accomplishment).
This story was one of the best I've heard. I was working late, night, and I found this. The tone of the voice, the warmth, the narration, just the combination was spectacular. Resident evil fan from the time RE found its way on the shelves of the game shops back in the 90s.
As someone who's played Resident Evil from the original on PlayStation 1 to Village and all in between this is an awesome chronology of the franchise. Great work.

I don’t care what anyone says RE6 is fantastically bad. I love it. The over the top random bullshit is only topped by a hilarious co-op experience. My best friend and I have replayed it so many times now.
Yeah, it seems like many people are just saying it's bad, because everybody else are. The co-op was actually pretty damn fun to play with friends. The plot and horror weren't really there, but it was fun nonetheless.

Absolute saints & dedicated fans for making this video. I've always wanted something like this getting in depth all in one video laying out the entire series story lore to date. Of course there's tons more to say about the games but this is the core of the stories and it's great to see it all condensed so close together compared to trying to go back to each individual game and piece the story links together.

In terms of popularity, even with the movies of both SH and RE I didn't expect anyone who was never a fan to get hooked so the reception for 7 this time was both surprising and unsurprising, surprising cos wow there's A LOT of hype, unsurprising cos I knew we had a sizeable amount of fans to begin with after like 10 games

I watched the first 10 mins over and over again and kept getting lost between all the characters that I legitimately just started taking notes. Idk why this is so interesting lol I just wanted to play the new game and not be totally lost but this is something else 😅
In the late 90s my mom would play resident evil. This was my introduction to gaming as a whole. 30 years later just bout, it’s my favorite gaming series ever. I’ve played every.single.one.

Part 1 comment storyline: So in total which i think you did a very great job at explaining all this even though this is a year ago. It is pretty well detailed within reason compared to others I watched and it helped me to understand details i missed since I love RE and don't think all the story is ridiculous when you think about it. And *spins like its jazz music* I" Chris gets more swoll each year. A new ocean type tyrant. Oh no another Self Destruct of a ship. Wesker had enough of Chris. Oh my goodness the remake of resident evil 1 on Xbox and PlayStation iss terrifying to say the least. So grainy and dark and wet and aggressive and uhhh. It amazing.. The 2nd remake is also amazing. Haven't played 3rd remake. Resident eVil code Veronica is amazing. Resident evil 4 is also amazing..and the remake is coming Soon if not already out. 5, 6, 7 were all trash In my opinion. But that's me I highly suggest checking out these cult classics. There is literally nothing better. Even with a game guide or walkthrough knowing what's around every corner doesn't help your nerves The books are also better than the video games ever could be. The books that started before the RE movies

Canonically Claire's route takes place as Scenario B And Leon's route takes place as Scenario A The B version of Leon and A version of Claire are just to give a bit more freedom and capcom getting some room to frig around Also i love that hes using RE3: Nemisis rather than the RE3 REmake

Bruh i was watching one of my you tubers play resident evil village and I did not understand that much so when I saw this I thought it would be boring but I gave it a shot and I am glad I did because It's clearing all the fog in my head. 43 minutes in and I love it. Thank you.
I'll still defend 6 as being far more grounded than even 4, being fun, and that the characters are so battle hardened at this point that horror elements would be severely out of place.
I definitely agree RE6 had a very good story the horror element really was not working anymore especially when most of the characters are all trained soldiers with trust issues no more room for horror
RE 4 is really when it started to shift from survival horror too FPS with survival elements to me, 6 is the climax of that. As a FPS I think I certainly holds its own, hell I like I better then alot of actual FPS games. But If you are looking at it as one a horror game and two progressing the narrative in a logical way it's not the best in my opinion. Good game wrong place.
I love this!! I'm a Resident Evil vet, having played most of the main numbered titles, with the exception of RE Village (for the time being), but this is a rely well put together and informative timeline. It's filling in many blanks for me, and it's very enjoyable to watch and listen to 👌🏾
A lot of people seems to be doing a VERY bad job within the Umbrella Corp. However the technician that installs the self-destruct mechanism is REALLY good at his/her job. Also I thing Umbrella has a guy among the top, who are into the chopper industry, earning good money with people needing new ones left and right, as they seem to blow up a lot.
I just finished RE7 in a marathon playthrough of all the mainline games including Code Veronica in an effort to prepare for Village. So I'm pretty caught up, but Resident Evil is easily and by far my favorite game franchise so I'll watch your video.
seeing the entire story like this... makes the all the RE games feel like a logical progression of a story. Like, even though 5 and 6 were very much more "shooter" than "horror", much to my disappointment, the story does feel like it would move in this direction if it were a series of movies. Interesting.
see as odd as it was I appreciate that it turned to a shooter I mean chris and leon are veterans of the viruses the scares wouldn't make sense for them but I get why it was disappointing but that's why 7 and 8 are a great return to the horror feel through fresh eyes
Resident evil 8 still felt like a shooter too me 7 was more scary but I’m not complaining I dont really care the story here through 8 games and how everything is still connected is amazing and even the side story’s that still connect to the main story’s are awesome
Phew! I can't play horror games, but I love watching them be played by others. RE is a long franchise, though, and I slept on it a lot until RE7, so I had a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for your hard work. If I'm a bit tired just watching your 2 hour video (not because it's boring, my attention span just isn't good), I can't imagine how hard making it was.
The first 3 original games are some of the best ones made. None of the goofy Japanese over acting melodrama, viruses actually had a process to them, they weren't just magic. Seriously how many times do you see someone infect themselves and instantly turn into a giant monster? Even Birkin's monster forms, as fast as they were took time to go through and at least there there was an explanation. The G Virus responds to cell damage. He got shot up on his right side (originally) so his right side quickly became all monster-y and throughout the night he's been fighting Claire and Leon who shoot him up, causing more damage and accelerating the process of the virus. I miss the original sounds of the zombies too. In the ps1 days those zombies legit sound horrifying. I think it's because they actually sound a lot like sick people. Yeah, i know they're infected with a virus but what i mean is that they sound like i do when I'm three days deep into a heavy flu and I'm forced to get up and go out and do stuff. They sound sick, they sound ill, and that really sounds repulsive.
This is just so good! Well put together and definitely what I needed to watch to get all caught up seeing how i missed out on all of the games but enjoyed all the movies. Now I own RE7 and RE8 :)
Incredible video, must have taken a tremendous amount of time to put together. Would just add a couple notes: 1 - las plagas is not a virus, as it is stated over and over, it is a parasite; you can even see it in some of the sequences and when you kill the enemies, the way it infects the bodies and lives inside them, taking over when you do enough damage. 2 - in RE7, they are also not infected with a virus; the thing that the girl uses to control everyone else is a fungus, hence why they call it mold; it is limited in that, that it was a parallel story from the beginning, when a researcher found it in the mountains and started to study it to bring her daughter back; having been destroyed in RE8, I am not sure it will be brought back again. Besides that, again, great video. I am surprised it does not have more views.

Still remember when I first rented Resident Evil in 1996 at Blockbuster Video and played it for three days straight. Got really far into the game, had it saved on a memory card until I was able to purchase the game and then finished it. Later, when RE2 dropped on PS1, I went ahead and bought it at GameStop after I left work. Arrived at home and played Claire's disc first. Half way through the game I started to play Leon's campaign. It was an exciting time in the late nineties and the RE franchise was still in its beginnings. Soon afterwards, I could not wait for RE3. Since my PS had a mod chip to play import games, I decided to go ahead and buy Biohazard 3 (Nemesis) and once opened , played it through an entire two nights until completed. It was fun having played and finished it before Capcom releasing RE Nemesis in the States. In the meantime, friends living down a few blocks from me had a Sega Dreamcast and were playing Code Veronica, I'd come over and partake in some missions until the end. Another cool rare gem was Resident Evil - Survivor, a first person shooter, which a friend had given me a copy of on a CD-R disc. Since having Namco's Time Crisis and Guncon in hand, why not. Not until I had an Xbox 360, did I have some catching up to do with the RE stories. Ultimately, it took me a long time to buy a used Xbox 360 at a pawn shop in 2017 or so, alongside a copy of RE4 and RE5, and RE Racoon City. Did not finish the games due to busier life and access to too many spoilers online. RUclips etc. Although, I will commend this compilation of a video with the history and telling of such classics. They sure bring back wild memories, so long ago. Thank you for creating this presentation. ✨

They could do shorts within the series focusing on flash backs based on the journal entries you find in the mansion.
Focus the bulk on the mansion then lab and then raccoon city. Theres loads going on in zero, 1, 2 and three to do a TV series for years. Make some tweaks. Problem is they just churn out garbage, I was so buzzing for mortal kombat after the advert and I couldn't believe how bad it was

I think with the RE2 Remake, Claire does everything first. With the parking garage, it's hard to explain. But there's no vehicle in the wall (courtesy of Ada). That's all I can really explain about the parking garage. However, in the sewers, it could be either or. However, the best way I can explain how Claire goes first in everything is NEST. It is only explained near the end, but it makes sense. When Claire needs to get the antiviral agent, you can see that it is locked. When Leon goes to the west area to retrieve the G-Virus sample, the case is unlocked, with the pendant visible in the "keyhole" (not really a keyhole), and one antiviral agent is missing. More proof that Claire goes first is Annette's death. Annette faked her death in Claire's campaign after giving Claire the Admin chip for the elevator. Now going to Leon, Annette does not have the chip anymore, and Ada has to hack the elevator. Furthermore, when Claire goes back to Annette and Sherry after dealing with G (phase 3). When in the room, you can hear that the intercom says that there was a removal of a level 4 virus. So then, Claire is given the chip, and goes down the elevator. At that moment, Annette goes to see Leon and G, where she delivers the information that Ada is a mercenary. Another note is that when Claire takes the elevator, the bridge to the west area is not destroyed. Finally, the final bit of information that Claire goes first is the self destruct. Claire's self destruct timer starts in the room with the 3 Ivys, whereas Leon's timer begins after Ada's presumed death. So then Claire gets Sherry into the train, and goes to get the train moving (before fighting G phase 4). There, she speaks with Leon, who is in the monitor room right after you get off the elevator. Finally, before Leon can make it to the path that takes him to the train room (where Claire is), something explodes, blocking his path, where Mr. X grabs him. More explosions go off, and the floor collapses, temporarily separating Leon and Mr. X. Finally, Leon fights Mr. X, and finally kills the tyrant. Then, he gets off the descending platform where he fought Mr. X. Finally, Leon kills a few more zombies, and then gets on the train that Claire was able to get running after her fight with G phase 4. That is how Claire canonically does everything first.
Also, in the back of the train where Leon or Claire fight and finally put an end to G phase 5. I like to think Claire should end G phase 5, as the game built up her big bad to be G, since the Mr. X going after her was killed early on. Unlike Claire's campaign, Leon's Mr. X remains alive and still torments him even through NEST (making a brief appearance in the east area). The big bad of Leon's campaign is Mr. X, so to me, the build up of Mr. X being Leon's big bad is ruined if he fights G phase 5. That's why it makes more sense if Claire fights G phase 5 at the back of the train.
Well stated and not to rain on your parade but capcom said clearly all the way back in the ps1 era and the original RE2 that canonically Claire A/Leon B is how the story goes.
Your notes are great but they serve less as proof of this and more proof of the effort of storytelling by the development staff to hold true to Claire A/Leon B being the canon scenario sequence.
Well dont want to rain your parade but they really fucked that up by adding another mr x to get killed by birkin during claire A just so players could experience mr x on claire that is not canon and kind of ruins the whole story.

The best part about that game in lore is definitely when we found out that Oswald E. Spencer was Miranda's student which was a great Easter egg
It was mind-blowing when I first found that out. He was a student to Miranda with a contradicting perspective. Spencer aim for the "new world" (upon discovering the progenitor virus from Africa) while Miranda just wanted to revive her own child: Eva (with the use of megamycete with accomplishment).

This story was one of the best I've heard. I was working late, night, and I found this. The tone of the voice, the warmth, the narration, just the combination was spectacular. Resident evil fan from the time RE found its way on the shelves of the game shops back in the 90s.

Absolute saints & dedicated fans for making this video. I've always wanted something like this getting in depth all in one video laying out the entire series story lore to date. Of course there's tons more to say about the games but this is the core of the stories and it's great to see it all condensed so close together compared to trying to go back to each individual game and piece the story links together.

In terms of popularity, even with the movies of both SH and RE I didn't expect anyone who was never a fan to get hooked so the reception for 7 this time was both surprising and unsurprising, surprising cos wow there's A LOT of hype, unsurprising cos I knew we had a sizeable amount of fans to begin with after like 10 games

But it's so hilarious, they made literally every week a video how much they hated the RE3 Remake and they hate it so much that they use footage from the original game, not the Remake. The recap is good but man, they sure are, almost 2 years later, sulky like a little brat that they haven't got the Resident Evil 3 Remake they wished for. So in total which i think you did a very great job at explaining all this even though this is a year ago. It is pretty well detailed within reason compared to others I watched and it helped me to understand details i missed since I love RE and don't think all the story is ridiculous when you think about it. Leon and Claire (Newbie OP cop and school girl) was just chillin' and all of a sudden due to these first two events of gaming. Now they gotta deal with the end of the world type stuff. Rats? I never knew that and that makes total sense. A zombie didn't just pop up and start this shit. Rats can go anywhere and everywhere. Plants can absorb their blood when killed, people could get bit since rat is rabid and animals could eat them which can morph them into bigger and crazier stuff. Plus a rouge G virus somewhere out there.

Maybe in the future something could happen with all this happening in this universe RE. Plus a T-Abyss ooze virus? Man people kept playin' with fire. No wonder the world ended in the movie version which is not canonical to me but still plays a small part story wise.
Game wise, people were still alive but outbreaks were everywhere at this point. The company's fight each other for newer Bioweapons. Meanwhile: Wesker: "Look at me...i am beautiful. I am above all. I am a god. I have all the viruses to create the ultimate being. Me. Myself. And *spins like its jazz music* I"
Chris gets more swoll each year. A new ocean type tyrant. Oh no another Self Destruct of a ship.
Wesker had enough of Chris. Stole his friend with his red jewelry he was kind enough to make for her. She appreciated it and went with him as a favor. Chris gets more Swoll.

Oh my goodness the remake of resident evil 1 on Xbox and PlayStation iss terrifying to say the least. So grainy and dark and wet and aggressive and uhhh. It amazing..

I have never played a single resident evil game but after I saw Ethan's full story I got interesting in this game so here I am.
RE: Never over think the story plot, but overthink it to its max. Don’t believe what you see but always believe everything u see keeping everything in mind but not.
RE: everyone dies but nobody stays dead, the only characters that have plot armor are all of them

I'll still defend 6 as being far more grounded than even 4, being fun, and that the characters are so battle hardened at this point that horror elements would be severely out of place.

I definitely agree RE6 had a very good story the horror element really was not working anymore especially when most of the characters are all trained soldiers with trust issues no more room for horror
RE 4 is really when it started to shift from survival horror too FPS with survival elements to me, 6 is the climax of that. As a FPS I think I certainly holds its own, hell I like I better then alot of actual FPS games. But If you are looking at it as one a horror game and two progressing the narrative in a logical way it's not the best in my opinion. Good game wrong place.

I think the virus being referred to in Resident evil 7 was actually a part of the megamycete seen in resident evil 8 which is actually a fungi.

A lot of people seems to be doing a VERY bad job within the Umbrella Corp. However the technician that installs the self-destruct mechanism is REALLY good at his/her job.
Also I thing Umbrella has a guy among the top, who are into the chopper industry, earning good money with people needing new ones left and right, as they seem to blow up a lot.
I just finished RE7 in a marathon playthrough of all the mainline games including Code Veronica in an effort to prepare for Village. So I'm pretty caught up, but Resident Evil is easily and by far my favorite game franchise so I'll watch your video.
Going through this again after beating Village. Really interesting how certain parts of the lore are recontextualized!
The cinematography in RE4, RE5, and RE6 is honestly the BEST in the series.
seeing the entire story like this... makes the all the RE games feel like a logical progression of a story. Like, even though 5 and 6 were very much more "shooter" than "horror", much to my disappointment, the story does feel like it would move in this direction if it were a series of movies. Interesting.

see as odd as it was I appreciate that it turned to a shooter I mean chris and leon are veterans of the viruses the scares wouldn't make sense for them but I get why it was disappointing but that's why 7 and 8 are a great return to the horror feel through fresh eyes

Resident evil 8 still felt like a shooter too me 7 was more scary but I’m not complaining I dont really care the story here through 8 games and how everything is still connected is amazing and even the side story’s that still connect to the main story’s are awesome

Phew! I can't play horror games, but I love watching them be played by others. RE is a long franchise, though, and I slept on it a lot until RE7, so I had a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for your hard work. If I'm a bit tired just watching your 2 hour video (not because it's boring, my attention span just isn't good), I can't imagine how hard making it was.

I still stand by 5 and 6 as being fun and 6 especially was very good value for money with 4 campaigns and as a kid that counted for alot
5 and 6 are easily my favorites. They're a ton of fun and I like that they embrace the ridiculousness of the underlying story of the franchise.
The first 3 original games are some of the best ones made.
None of the goofy Japanese over acting melodrama, viruses actually had a process to them, they weren't just magic. Seriously how many times do you see someone infect themselves and instantly turn into a giant monster?
Even Birkin's monster forms, as fast as they were took time to go through and at least there there was an explanation. The G Virus responds to cell damage. He got shot up on his right side (originally) so his right side quickly became all monster-y and throughout the night he's been fighting Claire and Leon who shoot him up, causing more damage and accelerating the process of the virus.
I miss the original sounds of the zombies too. In the ps1 days those zombies legit sound horrifying.
I think it's because they actually sound a lot like sick people. Yeah, i know they're infected with a virus but what i mean is that they sound like i do when I'm three days deep into a heavy flu and I'm forced to get up and go out and do stuff.
They sound sick, they sound ill, and that really sounds repulsive.

Incredible video, must have taken a tremendous amount of time to put together. Would just add a couple notes: 1 - las plagas is not a virus, as it is stated over and over, it is a parasite; you can even see it in some of the sequences and when you kill the enemies, the way it infects the bodies and lives inside them, taking over when you do enough damage. 2 - in RE7, they are also not infected with a virus; the thing that the girl uses to control everyone else is a fungus, hence why they call it mold; it is limited in that, that it was a parallel story from the beginning, when a researcher found it in the mountains and started to study it to bring her daughter back; having been destroyed in RE8, I am not sure it will be brought back again. Besides that, again, great video. I am surprised it does not have more views.
