Better method is using aqua Regia to pull the gold away from the iridium . But do not under any circumstance get rid of that unwanted iridium . Stuff is incredibly rare and very very expensive.
Hi grappy ,nice work ,I'm looking for someone in Australia to refine a little bit of iridium ore,it's been difficult so I was wondering if I can smelt it myself the best I can to at least get it into a bar form and then xrf scan it again..at the moment I have only 23 percent in ore form thank u mate ,the shiney stuff looks amazing
Depends on how high the meltingpoint of that alloy is. I once tried melting a 2g 99.95% piece with a HHO burner, it got as bright as a lightbulb, radiated tons of heat away but never melted. A arc melter should do the job though...
Electrorefine the gold and iridium comes off as black powder in the filter basket. Preferred method to work it is alloy with platinum or sintering with a halogen and beating into submission. If you want a solid cast iridium part preheat in a graphite boat using an induction furnace coil, and blast away with an electric arc or e beam in a vacuum. JM Matthey makes 13 inch silicon chip crucibles from this metal by some degree of dark arts level metallurgy. 👌 😜
On a small batch such as this one you might try using a 10 ounce gold cleaning/melting dish and a rosebud acetylene torch. I use this method for both cleaning gold of course but can also melt platinum. With only 4% Iridium and the rest gold it should have no problem melting it.
You need to either selectively dissolve gold in aqua regia or dissolve it all in chlorate based aqua regia and selectively precipitate out the gold and iridium.
How do you make this chlorate based aqua regia? And does it dissolve iridium at room temperature? I have been trying to dissolve iridium for quite a long time with no succes
@@Gman193 I use 32% HCl and for every liter I add about 200g of KClO3 or NaClO3 SLOWLY!! in a warm bath at 40C with stirring till your iridium dissolves.
Wow, i just found your channel and watched this video. Reason i came here is because i being a collector of ancient and modern coins have come across an 18th century copper coin that tested as 4% Ir by weight. So im gonna be looking to buy some more and hopefully they will be from a similar batch of ore. May need an Ir extractor. What State do you live in?
Ended up buying two more that needed 6 months to arrive from Russia, but they did arrive and neither had any Pt group metals in them. Same mintage year but slightly different hue of copper.
Same , give me a ring , lol. I'll find a buyer , no problem . Don't want you having the "junk" taking up precious space at your house . So let's say $100 dollars for the lot and I'll pay shipping . ... I hope you know I'm kidding around , that stuff is extremely expensive. Far more expensive than I can afford.
You can use aqua regia and let it run then you can look at the activity series of metals to find the metal that will take the place of iridium when melting you need an oxygen-less melt chamber

Looks like you have some lead and iron in there. Those will also make your gold break and be crumbly...
Lead and gold don't really mix well :P
Iridium is worth more than gold though...
3 times more

I wouldt use graphite, Iridium doesnt form carbides, so even a 10ppm contamination of carbon makes the metal extremly brittle and unworkable...
This element is actually known to be one of the most difficult to separate. I feel your pain ❤
thanks mate ill take that sympathy .....hahahaha
Good video you worked hard for it....What chemicals should added to extract can you please tell me?

Totally true fact: this dude also gets mad at galena for ‘contaminating’ his lead with that dirty ol’ silver. Lol
Sounds like a good problem to me. Aaarrrgh, I have too much iridium in my gold. Wish I had those problems in life! Lol
How Much mix iridium in gold
What happens if iridium is in gold?

XRF INSTRUMENT OR WICH INSTRUMENT YOU USE FOR TEST
Iridium dissolve at 2200 C°🤔
The black slimy stuff is platinum
I read di um ? Stuff Is on my oakley juliet sunglasses
6,100 per Troy ounce - iridium

Found your site.
What? That's nuts haha
@@SubvertTheStateI launched a new RUclips channel in the meantime. The copper coin is on my channel, it is the old Russian 5 Kopek coin.

It is not iridium that is causing the bloom and stink it is the sulphides lol
or Osmium, which is also a platinum group metal and means smelly in Greek. Osmium burns and the oxide smells like garlic or chlorine.
I have iridium nuggets. One nugget I have weighs like 3 ounces. How do I sell it?

Are you serious? I would also be interested in purchasing
I have ore tested over 60% IR and some AU but would sell the ore have over 20oz and will be posting on eBay eventually if anyone is interested!

How much price iridium guest...... thank s
Right now $4510 usd per toz
Get something to melt the iridium and save it up from all the customers that shit is preciouse.
how can ı recover iridium
Strong acid bath and to melt you need and oxygenless chamber
Damn
I,ve combo of ir and au
10% au and 84% ir.
But in powder form i got it through nitric acid how to separate it please reply.
And also melt ir.
Maybe try inquarting with more gold,
Then dropping it in aqua Regia
To bad you cant extract the iridium somehow as its worth a lot $6100 au compared to gold $1774 au im guessing they add it to the gold to harden it.
Do u know anyone that refines iridium in Australia?
Hı frend. How to make iridium chemical precipitation? video
How you dissolve? If its in hcl then use simply SMB or sulfate gas

i need❤
Lol good stuff mate know how you feel
i will share your channel..
