Wow just wow. Ive never seen an orange cover black that good. Army painter continues to surprise me
I know right!!! I hate painting orange at the best of times haha I have tried so many brands and they have just been so poor. But im really happy with Burning Ore, now i'll have to paint some orcs!! :):)
@@SwordsandBrushesHeresy! I love painting orange. Almost as much as purple!
Wow, this is the first I've heard of these. Great to see Army Painter stepping up their standard acrylics
Yeh I had to produce the video as i was quite excited with new paints haha
Certainly, I do believe they see what people say and take feedback on board - so it will be exciting to see what they come up with!
i almost can't believe that orange covers so well... that's outrageous
I know right! If they can do that with the Yellows then i'll be a happy bunny :)
I'm really impressed with Army Painter's constant efforts to improve their paints. I got a big set of their war paints back in 2020 to get back into the hobby and they were absolute garbage in every regard other than pricing. Then the speedpaints came, I tried them out and loved them, better than any other transparent paint range. Never tried their air brush paints but I have only heard good things about them. If this is how they reformulate their regular war paints I might have to get back into AP as my main brand.
Also a minor nitpick: diluting paint 1:1 with water is not "adding a smidgeon".
Definitely, i love how they listen to feedback and see what people say and how they can improve.
I got the ultimate set a number of years ago as i made the switch from Citadel, i did it for the price and range of colours.
Agree that some colours are not the best - like the yellows and oranges, but when speed paint came along i LOVED them so they filled any gaps there, but it also changed the way i paint too :)
It will be interesting to see what they announce adn what they will o to take the range forward.
Noted! Shall i say double smidgeon? :P
@@SwordsandBrushes I got back into mini painting in 2020 after a long break having stopped in my teens. Got one of the big boxes which wasn't the complete set and it was alright at first. I think I may have gotten a bad batch or the set had been sitting around for ages, but the paints were absolute garbage. Didn't cover at all and felt bad to use. Soured my opinion of the entire range, but speedpaints had restored my trust.
Double smidgeon will probably do ;)
Agree, the normal non-metallic Warpaints always felt they were fighting me every step of the way, at least for more than simple "basecoat, wash, next model"-type paint jobs (not that there's anything wrong with those, if that's what you're happy with). The new ones look way nicer to work with, even if I prefer working with matte paints, both mid-paintjob and on the final mini.
I like how companies are starting to listen to feedback more often. Vallejo recently did a revamp of their weakest-link paint line (Game Color) too, and took the line from bargain bin to 100% worth the money.
These look a lot more like the Pro-Acryl or the Kimera kind of formulas with a lot of pigmentation. Is Army Painter going to be the next name in Top-Tier acrylics? 👀👀👀
Ive not tried them so i cant compare, but with what i've tried them on so far, it's going to be awesome if they more of these. If i can save time here and there with basecoating/layering - then that means my backlog of minis will hopefully go down quicker! haha
My current paint collection is mostly speed paint - and I was going to pick up more normal paint but will hold off until this releases.
ah cool! i am fond of the speed paints, i seem to use them more and more these days. It will be looking to see when they will release the new paints - just need to find the space for them haha
Impressive. Army painter is really stepping it up
I just got my free samples! Looking forward to using them!
Amazing! Hope you enjoy using them :):)
That new orange looks pretty nice, I'd liek to get my hands on that
Definitely my pick of the 3 so far, it will be cool to see what else they come up with! :)
Oh dear, months ago I bought all of my Army Painter warpaints, and then a few days ago I bought the Speedpaint Complete 2.0.
I can see that I'll have to invest money again at the end of the year. 😅
thank you for all your great videos. please keep it up!
haha you can never have too many paints!! I had to empty a drawer this year to make space for the Airbrush range.
I still would like to get the Speedpaint 2.0 range - have you got any favourite colours from that set so far?
i got their normal paints and they SUCK, I gave up
I bought their speed paints, and I LOVE them
@@SwordsandBrushesnot yet. Except for the metallics, which I don't like so much, I think all the colors are fantastic. I'm looking forward to the new green tones. Orquest Warthpath arrived a few weeks ago. lots of orcs to paint 😊
I just got my samples yesterday, JUST as I was making a palette book for the warpaint range! Can't wait to try them later today!
@@SwordsandBrushes Shamrock Green, Forest Sprite and Ghillie Dew are awesome! Love them all!
The new paints look great. The coverage is superb with a little thinning. Honestly, I’d like to see them update the current range with the new formulation and maybe fill in the gaps with standard versions of any airbrush exclusive paints.
That sounds like a good idea - especially the filling in gaps. It would be awesome adding to the range of colours - saves mixing paints! :)
Wow that new orange is amazing
Certainly is! I was quite impressed with it - now I want to paint an Army orange haha 😄
@@SwordsandBrushes I’m actually doing a Votann army in orange and this new formula would work great for me
About damn time they reworked their acrylic formula! I need these STAT!
Yeh there are some colours which i struggled with, like the oranges and yellows - The Speedpaints helped with that. But if they can do some Yellows which cover nicely then i'd take my hat off to them!
@@SwordsandBrushesI was asking them about if they had plans to reformulate their warpaints range a few weeks ago. They coyishly replied that they will think about it. So I think it's highly likely they will revamp their whole colour range!
Thank you for this video, I'm interested to see what they'll do with this. It does seem like they're trying to catch up with their competition in terms of offering vibrant paints that still have amazing coverage, such as Two Thin Coats, TTCombat, and the new Vallejo Game Color. If the Army Painter can provide such saturated yet highly opaque paints at roughly the same price as their current paints, I'll definitely have to give them a try, especially if they offer a "starter set" at a discounted price, like they often do.
Thanks very much for watching! :)
Not tried the others, but it's good to know that there is a selection out there for hobbyists. Im sure they will come up with something along those lines. Especially for folk that want to try the brand out for the first time :)
When you poured MythicalOrange on the miniature like ketchup on chips, I died laughing XD
haha see you come here for the informative video and i just give you a bit of comedy along the way lol :P
Being a base paint fan I like painting minis with as few layers as I can. So this may be my jam.
Nice! I think if there is a way to save time in the hobby one way or another but still get the same or better result, then it gets my vote! As there is always so many things to paint!! :):)
Good job on getting this video out there so fast! Hopefully AP notices. I believe these paints are probably going to be a new limited line at first. Like how Vallejo used to sell a heavy body line if paints, but eventually just made their Game line more heavily pigmented. Or AK's line of Intense paints.
Thanks! When i need to be i am a Speedy Gonzales, but also a magpie for something new and shiny - so i had to try them out straight away.
It will be interesting to see what they announce!! :)
@SwordsandBrushes I heard a rumor they are going to release a new mesmerizing purple that is intended to be "the superior shade colo(u)r for all right minded people of exquisite tastes". Not sure where I read that, but it sounds true to me.
Glad to see AP's range is progressing too.
I have been thoroughly enjoying Vallejo's updated Game Colors, and AK Interactive's 3rd gen. But AP tends to be a lot more accessible to people.
Yeh definitely its nice to see companies testing out their range and also listening to peoples feedback to make their products better and better.
It's just nice as a hobbyist to have a choice out there! :)
Neon colors!
Fyi that color scale on the paint bottle shows where that particular paint falls in its own "6 color triad." The Army Painter is doing a new thing where instead of a color triad, it's part of a 6 color scale. The idea is that it adds to the versatility of the base, shadow, highlight options.
The 6 colour triad system is a good idea, hopefully it will help painters out there. Especially those that may be new to the range :)
Holy moly!
I love the old range. Gimegimegime
They should upgrade the whole range. Looks fab
they looks rly good.
They are pretty good so far! :)
This seems to be an impressive improve for standard warpaints line.
It's a good new👍
It looks like it's going to be :) I think i'm going to have to buy another paint rack at this rate!

Right, they seem FANTASTIC, having paints from both warpaint and D&D Norzul set, seeing those behave like that made me chill. Because we all know that some colours from those sets wasn't behaving correct, meaning by trying to thin them down or use them as a wash like colour/filler etc etc. If they gonna replace or update current colour range for warpaints, that would be awesome.Great presentation once more laddie.
Thanks very much! I tried to do what i could with the 3 paints for the video and give them a good test.
Yes it will be interesting to see what they come up with. For me i would love a new updated range - because i like new shiny pretty things.
The downside to that is - im going to have to remake all of my paint swatch lower thirds that pop up on the screen. And that took AGES the first time! haha
Cool review. 👍 Thank you.
Thank you! I do like having a play with paints and seeing what they can do, hopefully it will help others if they are seeing these paints for the first time :)
The hype train is a juggernaut, steam and smoke and churning pistons, smashing the tracks flat and cracking open the earth.
Real glad about them improving their warpaints. I wonder if their metallic paints are also going to be revamped, but that is if the entire range getting a make over
We shall see! They are going to do an announcement today so we'll be eagerly awaiting that! :)
They seem impressive, I'm definitely curious. But I would probably thin them a little bit more and still do another layer, it seems like a few spots had paint collect into recesses and dry with air bubbles that pop after a lot of drying occurred. I used to think of army painter as having some less than great paints but then some really great and unique colors you can't get anywhere else like "duergar metal" and "underdark grey" which I lean on heavily for the large number of drow models I use for my campaign, they have really surprised me.
I agree, there are some really nice colours in the range and i would love if they expanded on them. My current favourites are Chaotic Red and Mutant Hue. There are just some projects that come along where i'm like "I'll use this colour as ive not picked it up in a while" haha
It will be cool to see what they announce today!
Coverage is great, but now it seems that it doesn't matter the priming color, so this might change a bit the approach to build up. I wonder if it also affects layering?
Yes that could be an interesting one - if it will negate the priming colour altogether. It will be interesting to try the other paints when they are out.
If they are adding to the range then the current paints will work perfectly with these. But we shall see what they come up with soon i suppose! :)
Have you had a chance to try running them through an airbrush? I am curious if their new “stabilizer” causes problems when thinning with standard acrylic thinners (like my usual blend of Vallejo thinner+flow improver).
Only the orange so far as i wanted to test that because normally orange sucks. It went through perfectly well, i added some Vallejo Airbrush thinner - as i don't have the AP one but it worked :)
That's very good to hear. I thin pretty much everything with a Vallejo Thinner/Flow Improver mixture. I will definitely look to pick up a set when they release. @@SwordsandBrushes
so when are these suppose to be available? it's still hard to find the new Speedpaints if you order online you usually get the old ones.
They did a teaser video on their socials yesterday and I think we will find out more on Friday! :)
Now that's coverage. Normally only a fool would paint orange onto black (other than to demonstrate that it doesn't work, of course) but this stuff.....wow. I'm looking at my big Citadel collection and wondering if I made a serious error.
I was impressed if i'm honest, i was thinking "surely orange wont work?" Now the real test would be Yellow!
Definitely not, the citadel brand is still great it's what i started on, and there are a lot more colours nowadays than there were before.
Id say if you need certain colours then just cherry pick the ones you would need. :)
I've moved completely to army painter, but i still buy Vallejo for black and white. Is it me, or anyone else find these colours could be improved at Army Painter!
It will be interesting to see what the new White and Black will be like from the new set, ive heard good things about the Vallejo white, never used it myself as i hardly ever use my white paint haha - one day something will crop up!
They are releasing the entire new line in January
Look forward to it - between the Honeymoon, new paints and the old world set - im going to start off 2024 poor! haha
Hello, should we expect a new paint scheme? I was about to buy the whole pack ^^
Hopefully we will find out more on Friday, i believe they are announcing something then :)
It looks like they'll be replacing their old lines and expanding the range.
Thats cool! Only thing now is im going to have to spend some time creating new lower thirds for my future videos! :):)
Wow, Army Painter finally learned how to make paint. 👏 🎉
I know i'm pretty excited for the new range :):)
Maybe they want that "fanatic" stuff to replace every other paints, so you can do bases, shades or airbush just with one type of paint. It should be a nice idea to make their collection more easy to access
We shall see! It's always exciting when something new comes out :):)
DANG I bought the war paints set, guess I have the old colors to deal with
It will be interesting to see what they come up with, either a full change or adding to the existing with the colours people give feedback on.
These come out immediately after I shelved all my warpaints. Might pick these up if there's a new starter set.
God, warpaints were crap.
It will be cool to see what they will do, they have a video on Friday coming out i think that will hopefully tell us more :)
I can't believe it airbrushes that well.... They can take all my money
haha i do like to airbrush, so i needed to try them out.
Granted they are nice, but im more of a fan airbrushing Speed Paints. But i reckon Oranges & yellows i may well do using the Fanatic Range.
Alright they didn't need to give the goblin so much cake.
My Goblins love cake, as do i! :):)
Where is that Orc from, please?
The Orcs towards the end of the video are "Hunter Orcs" from the Middle Earth range by Games workshop, they have some nice details on them :)
Desert Yellow please!
Give us a saturated, non-glossy red!
Boom good one, reds would be great :)
time to buy the new collection...
Lu-king good. Won-der when they hit the shelves.
I reckon fairy soon! Their video teased a it more :)
They're going to replace all their standard range with this new formula. It's straight on their page. And I would be cautious for the moment. It all looks great but the secret of Warpaints Fanatic is in new ingredient - stabilizer. We don't know yet how this stabilizer will react with pigments, washes, inks, varnishes or mediums from other companies. We don't know either if it will make tha paint to dry off and coagulate more quickly. I'm full of hopes, but time will show if everything is ok or not with new AP paints.
Fingers crossed! hope they will be great for hobbyists out there - it's nice to have the choice :)
What I wish is that they’d produce the same colors in all three, Air, Speed and War paints so we can run the same colors with different techniques.
Thats a good point actually, i wonder why they differ slightly.
I tend to use the airbrush paints with the brush as well anyway - gives me extra colours to select from haha
@@SwordsandBrushes I do also, but there are time when the airbrush paints are too thin and i end up throwing the figure into the sonic cleaner to start over
How are you guessing about whether or not it is replacing the whole range this has been known for months.
Not everyone may be up to date with the latest hobby news. It's a nice discovery :)
Balls added to the bottles already?
Yes indeed, these 3 have them. Im pretty sure somewhere that they said they would add them to all the new paints they produce. Either that or i was dreaming about paint one night! :)
I wonder if the yellow will be this good..
Fingers crossed!! :):)
Why did the orange come out so glossy through the airbrush? Vallejo's medium does that? smh..
Oopsie, my bad, i may have not shook the thinner enough and was probably too excited about the paint haha
I do notice that about Vallejo that some products separate too quickly in the pot and give a glossy finish.
The matt varnish i use on them is awesome but i have to decant it first, stir it to break down the gunk at the bottom and then add mixing balls in before i can use it, which is really annoying - but it's a great finish so i go that extra step for that product.
The coverage is good. But the extremly glossy finish are an absolute dealbreaker
They seem pretty good, it was my fault for the airbrush glossy look as i didn't shake the Vallejo thinner enough i believe.
Reds and violets!
When do these beauties release?
Not sure, they have not announced anything yet, but they did a teaser video on their socials yesterday and i think we will find out on Friday! :)
Squirting orange onto that miniature caused me to wince in pain. Don't do that again please :)
Haha I can't promise that :p
No what about price difference ?
Guess we shall see when they hit the shelves. I doubt it would be too much difference - fingers crossed!
@@SwordsandBrushes yep wait and see
I love that crack addict thumbnail lmaoooo
haha thanks! Its what i look like when i see donuts
Love the new formula for AP paints. I love AP, but their paints are not as nice to use as other brands. Hopefully this will be the nail in the coffin for the "AP paints are trash" crowd.
Also I'd love for them to give us a white paint that's as good as proacryl's titanium white.
I hope so! A white in this formula would be most impressive! But for me i don't think for me i would use it often, i rarely pick up my white as it is now haha
A orange which is not sht would be a improvement. I tried every paint brand and the oranges are a weakpoint. If you have a opaque one, its not a good orange.
I wait for whole reviews from people i trust, and then buy the good colors i need. I have 2 complete lines of paint with PA and AK. Dont need a third, and army painter was very disappointing in the past. I dont like the marketing of "Oh thats a gamechanger" only because they manage to produce paints now, which actually work, what other brands do since 15 years.
Agreed, Orange has been a bane of my existence in the hobby for quite a while, i've tried a few brands but never liked how it painted on.
Speed paint helped a bit as i do like Fire Giant Orange and then using this Burning ore was a nice treat.
Hopefully the rest of the range will be great, especially Yellows! haha
Reds! Their reds are really lacking in coverage.
thats a good shout, if Vampire and Dragon could get this intense look then i'll be a happy bunny :)
You added 50% water to acrylic… (you say: so you can get a smooth finish…) So i can only assume you have no clue that you should never use more than 30% water… Yes you can use water. But you really should never use water. Only use a medium if you can. But if you need to save money and you need to make a wash or whatever you reasoning, Use only 20% water and 30% medium.
Sure you may have “experience” with water doing “good” for you. But what does your paint look like a year or five later? You can make paint last centuries but too much water and handle the model then its going to look like crap and probably peel or flake off.
I prefer to think you were just trying to put them both at a disadvantage to see better on video how the binder holds up to too much water.
Thanks, i was just testing and experimenting with the paints for this video.
Tend to add only a bit of water or preferably medium to thin down paint, especially if i want to make a "wash" with them. just depends what im painting on the day :)
Not had a problem with paint flaking off yet :)
Sooo…they made ProAcryl. Got it.
Not tried them so i cant compare, however i will respond with a fact about me - I like Custard Creams :)
unless the severely thinned them won’t be going near.
Whats your current go to range, it's always nice to see whats out there :)
@@SwordsandBrushes Vallejo and Pro Acryl. Still like army painters primers and washes but I find their paint to just be way too think.
Huh, army painter paints that actually perform their basic function? That would be a first.
Well they have been doing it for 16 years so far, i made the switch about 5 years ago and im a happy bunny :)
Wow your standards are so low they must be boring through to the molten core of the Earth.
make them dropper bottles ffs. these outdated bottles will always squeeze paint out into the cap and leave a mess the next time you open it. vallejo already uses dropper bottles why cant army painter use them too? the color might be great but not in an old bottle system. please army painter change the bottles for the better.
They are dropper bottles, I have lot's of Vallejo paint and they are the same bottle.
I definitely much prefer these style bottles than the flip cap ones from the 90's - they just dried wayyy to quick and too much paint was wasted.
@@SwordsandBrushes i am not talking about the old gw crap. i am talking about the new vallejo bottles. they have a new top that are like the ones on medication bottles. they do not spill and can dose more precise than the old tops. no more color inside the cap that dries up and clog the top of the bottle. get yourself one of the new vallejo bottles and have a look for yourself, they are way better. and i want army painter to use them too.
"Army Painter" and "Good Coverage" just don't go together.
Seems like they shall now! :):)
I've never seen worse label design on anything
oo i dunno, i miss some of the old 90's chocolate and sweet packaging, they were fun and colourful! Showing my age now haha
