I don’t play pauper, nor am I much of a competitive player, but I would like to say thank you for offering transparency and an explanation behind your decisions it’s something very refreshing and sorely lacking lately in the magic community.
Hey when do we get the Angel Dragon creature? We still missing that one! We already have Demon Dragon. what about the Slivers? Why the most unique creature to MTG, hasn´t seen any new comings or reprints?
Hearing these detailed explanations and all the consideration that went into these changes makes me wonder if we should see similar panels for the likes of Modern and Pioneer. So far it seems like a great success in Pauper!
I suspect that one of the factors at play here is that the pfp can make adjustments to the format without worrying too much about their financial impacts. Banning a 50c card is a lot easier than banning a 100$ monkey.

I love all your videos but i think that these and the Commander Retrospectives have to be my absolute favorite. In regards to these, really seeing the complete thought process behind why things are getting Banned or unbanned is not only interesting but also really informative and good to see. Also (possibly because I'm a simpleton) with the pauper bans my gut reaction was to feel sad to see Atog and Disciple go but after watching the video I always felt like "Ah that's a compelling argument and I can see why they did that"

I really wish they would have waited a while to unban map after the bans had taken effect. Tron is a huge blanket over the format, that only takes a touch to be dominant. Waiting to see what happens with the meta seems reasonable.
Am I the only one that feels like this was the entire Pauper announcement article that was posted on the Mothership, just in audio and with graphics? Also, glad to see an UNbanning happen. I have a few decks that I've either built or am in the process of building for EDH and I'm relying on Pauper legality to build them. Expedition Map will certainly help some of them out!
Agree with the decisions and rationale for banning galvanic relay. However, like my comment on the previous PFP banning video, i wonder if banning the bridges would curb affinity sufficiently and therefore atog and disciple could remain. Affinity only really got out of check when the bridges were released... Think the panel may be just delaying the inevitable ban of the bridges, which would be sad if several other affinity cards pay the price for the tardiness
Either that or quickly release new cards which provide other decks with sufficient sideboard tools to appropriately deal with artifacts (even the indestructible lands)

Anyway *the coomunity proceeds to invent 3 other different flavours of affinity* I'm not that happy to see more Tron, but hopefully the community also starts to play different versions of it, like the monored version that I was yesterday on Thraben University's channel.
I used to love mtg soo much, but right now it feels like the company only care about money. So i stopped playing a long time ago, a friend of mine told me about pauper and so far i have 8 decks and i have spent $400 on this format. So i dont mind spending money, as far as is not as predatory as all the other tactics (modern masters 2 and aaaall the secret liars)
Why couldn't we get any real Samurai? I've seen some explanations, and I don't want to be rude but they are rudely weak explanations. "If Bushido would be triggered during your turn (or the first time Bushido would be triggered) you get X. There now you can make decent REAL Samurai. Decent is all we Samurai fans are asking for.
Appreciate the communication and explanation, but I'm really frustrated and disappointed about the Disciple banning. The burst and chip damage from Atog and Disciple is what drew me to Affinity in the first place. The playstyle I enjoyed is completely dead now. :/ How likely is downshifting a card like Mayhem Devil?
"We would be happier to see a little more tron". Your bias is showing. These bannings and unbannings should be based on win rates, format warping and unhealthy metas, not what decks YOU want to see. This is over reach in my opinion and based on personal preferences not relevant data.
I mean it sounds obvious when you say it like that, but the Storm Scale is specifically about the reappearance of mechanics in Standard. It doesn't apply to eternal. The couple of Horizons storm cards have been fine everywhere except in Pauper, which just doesn't have the right kinds of tools to interact with those sorts of decks.
@@christopherlundgren1700 Storm was a badly designed mechanic from the get-go. Anything that turns a two player card game into a game of solitaire should not have made it past the design stage. Why keep bringing it back when it needs constant rebanning to keep the game fun? Storm completely killed my interest in mtg when it was originally released and I finally just stopped playing all together because of how unfun it made the game. It's not a question of power, it's a question of keeping a game fun. Let the bad mechanic stay dead I say.
@@johngalt200 Ok, well you're not the only person that plays Magic. That seems like an extreme reaction to me, but to each his own I guess. There are a lot of people for whom gameplay like that IS exciting and fun. That's why they bring it back. You can say that about a lot of more polarizing gameplay patterns; some people hate playing against control or prison for example, but there are others that really enjoy playing those styles of decks. I guess you got over it, because if you quit "all together" over storm existing, that was a long time ago now, and I don't know why you'd even be watching this video.
@@johngalt200 I think it's fair to say that and you're definitely entitled to your feelings about it. I would argue that uninteractive games are not good design in general, especially for new players. Standard is designed this in mind, focusing on midrange type of cards based on creatures instead of solitaire combo or prison. Eternal formats however do make an exception to this, allowing strong presence of prison decks, creatureless control, prison and uninteractive combo, which many people enjoy as well and don't mind playing against. In principle I think it's fine to have that since there's options for many types of players. In reality of course standard has many problems so it's often not as great or available as eternal formats.
I look forward to getting sinkhole or hymn for MBC during the next unbanning announcement. Also please don't touch the ritual package, I need them for 1 Land Spy.
This format is broken with every new set release. There was outrage each time a new card was banned in 2019 standard, I don't understand how a format that breaks every month is worth it. Maybe if this game weren't so overwhelmingly expensive people wouldn't need to resort to playing only commons.
Ban Spellstutter already! It has the most absurd synergy in the format with 8 ninjas effectively giving the deck 16 counter spells, early game control, and degenerate card advantage!

Sure. Also, we're still dealing with a black Ancestral Recall that fixes your mana (Deadly Dispute + Ichor Wellspring), so bouncing back Sprite with ninjas is hardly the most absurd synergy in the format. I'm sorry, but presenting Fae as this overpowered, degenerate and oppressive monster of a deck is just plain wrong. And the current data proves it.

Affinity had already been nerfed twice within a month yet you still pathetically complain about a 2-card combo that only draw 4 cards once while having ninjas as permanent card draw engine? You must be a 12-year old to even complain about getting disrupted while using a deck that does all the disruption early that the opponent can't even set up a defense.

When I first heard, and played Affinity in early 2000, never thought it would still be a problem this many years later!

Basic lands are technically their own rarity, so they should not be Pauper legal in the first place :P
