    As a Fellow shallow drafter I 100% approve this message. Florida is a very dog friendly state, especially in the Keys. Good job avoiding Miss Cleo. The cards may not lie, but you will see your wallet a little lighter in the future. Another good one man. Still super impressed you are producing these gems on you Galaxy S20! I remember Destin. Back in the 90's, we did the intercoastal waterway and offshore from Houston, TX to the Florida Keys. We were living aboard our 36' S2 sloop with a 6' draft and 50' mast. We couldn't take the route you took through the Narrows and then under the bridge to the cut into the bay at Destin. Our mast was too tall for us to fit under the bridge; so, we went out in the Gulf. And then coming in to the bay at Destin, we plowed through sand. After spending the night anchored in the bay, the wind was favorable so that we raised sails and the boat healed over and we went out the cut without dragging the keel through the sand. Seeing your video brings back lots of fun memories.

    No worries, you're in the free state of Florida. I was so hoping youd take the ICW on the east coast. Youd find more places to stop on shorelines. The gulf coast is more residential so more private shorelines. Just look out for the pirates here, theyre disguised in suit and ties. Yep, our dogs like the nasty stuff. The nose knows. Check out some of the other boats that are tied up there's a particular way to tie off when you're in a tidal situation. Basically you tie from the front of the boat to the cleat that's near the rear and another rope from the rear of the boat to the cleat that's near the front. By having that much slack and the ropes crossing like that it'll allow it to go up and down with the tide. Some people add an additional third role that they tie off loosely to either the front for the rear to keep the boat from drifting away from dock. I'm sure the way you're doing it is fine too but I just thought maybe take a look at some of the other boats you'll probably see what I'm talking about.

      @backwatersandbackroads  4 месяца назад +1

      She actually does really well in big ans rough water, just a rougher ride than most are use to due to the flat bottom. Taking it slow helps. We're currently headed north (South Carolina) and home to Superiorland by mid June. Next winter? The adventures never end ;) Skoolie build in the works. Western hot springs tour?

    Enjoying each and every one of your Great Loop videos this year Brenton. While you are much farther ahead on the journey, curious, is this point (Destin) that you head north from here?

      In RUclips time, we still have a few Florida videos to do before heading North. We're in South Carolina in "real" time ;)

    Oh this is so awesome!. It's a special treat getting 2 of your videos today..
    Wavy is so adorable ❤ I love the shot you got of her while at the helm. It's so cool that you trained her to drive the boat.. lol
    Just to let you know, you never have to worry about bringing wavy into the store as your service animal, but there is absolutely no documentation that you need and they can't tell you she can't come in with you. Just keep her out of the main shopping cart part where the food goes.. because nobody wants their food packaging where dog butt was sitting..lol
    So what did the water Nazis want?

    I just stumbled upon your site today. You mentioned it was Winter when you were in Pensacola. What month was it when you were here? I am totally confused because the video was posted two months ago. I have been back tracking the videos to see when you were here. I am going at this all wrong I know. Probably skip back to Mobile after this vid. I could never do a trip like this. I like to fish and it would drive me crazy not stopping to fish.

    Hi. Enjoyed the video. A comment and a question please:
    Shallow drafters: You asked for feedback. If you're willing to give up a little technical accuracy, and swap it for some creativity, I think you can pick a name that covers more of the overall experience and still gets your point across. What's that?
    Shallow Drifters
    You could have a lot of fun chatting with people about the different meanings of that name.
    Question: I'm looking for information about an aspect of your boat design, now that you've had a good amount of time using it. If you're so inclined, instead of defending why you did what you did, just tell me objectively how you feel about this now. Specifically, do you find while boating around and sleeping on beaches, etc. that you miss an awning over the porch, or miss a porch that might be useful for more than storage and getting on/off? I'm thinking of one that could _easily_ hold a small table and two chairs, etc. under an awning to allow sitting outside in a bit of shade. The latter is part of my "someday" design, but I'd like to know what you think with experience. Any thoughts appreciated.

      Howdy. That's a good suggestion for a name. I was also thinking "The Draft Dodgers" but someone did point out the Vietnam link. Some kind of outside sitting is not a bad idea. If I was building another shanty boat, I'd go 10 feet wide (still trailerable, and that extra 1.5 feet makes a huge difference. One thing I love about the low profile is slipping under stuff like bridges. I park in front my house because I can slip under a railroad trestle that most can't.

      @@backwatersandbackroads How is a 10 ft width trailerable if the laws in most places say 8.5 feet max width?

    • @backwatersandbackroads
      @backwatersandbackroads  3 месяца назад

      @_onesimpleidea 8.6 is legal max in most states, but people tow 10 feet often, and some states allow it without permits

    For me any day on the water is a good day. Honestly Brenton,I could live on a vessel such as yours and be quite content though I would want Starlink or something similar. I watched your other Vlog this morning and I agree with everything you talked about. The American people are being fleeced and driven into what I would say is an Oligarchy at the moment with a dictatorship on the horizon. Greed is rampant and evil is winning. The more horrible thing is that everyone seems to be just going along with it making it impossible to actually do anything about it. Everyone is just passing the buck down the line and our society is or has become less trusting,less caring,more hateful and spiteful and especially more angry. There are exceptions but they have become far and few inbetween. We can do better if we would just stand as one but we know that will never happen. Those are just my musings as a 58yo. I'm not bitter at all but I see the writing on the wall. Watching your videos makes me want to sail away... Keep on being you Brenton,you are shining brightly.

    Does your navigation software indicate where you can and cannot beach the boat? Public or private lands? Or anchor locations?

    Another great video Brenton. My comments on your other channel were meant for this video. Not sure how I did that? lol. Regarding the scooter taking a salt water beating. Would adding some clear vinyl material to the upper bow rail make a difference and protect the scooter some more?

      I have a cover, but the scooter already blocks so much as it is. I just WD40 some spots once in a while ans she keeps running;) as long as she gets us home, she served her purpose;)
