Perhaps this is (unfortunately) how it was meant to be -- a one shot. The original comic was a one-shot, with an already established cast of characters that you just fall into and love, and accept that 'that was it' no matter how bad you wanted it. The trade paperback collection adds some awesome insight and backstory to some of the characters, though!

I'm guessing it was because of the costs. You've got Mike Mignola, Paul Giamatti & David Hyde Pierce. Also it was 2d in a period where everyone was moving over to spangly shiny 3d, and its much darker palette isn't what they think kids would be into. If it came out in the 90's after the Adventures of Batman it would have had a much better chance.

The cast is great, but damn David Hyde Pierce killed it with that Emperor Zombie role, one of the funniest and morbid villains ever!

This was awesome, a Mignola style show with Guy Davis and Dave Stewart on Prop and Colors, with Paul Giamati and Patton Oswalt as voices.

Every time I watch this... it defies my logic on how this wasn't picked up. It is on par with the cancellation of Firefly.
