Airtel sim: Includes data..so it would be ur settings needs updating mostly “international data roaming” should be enabled. For Taxi: You got scammed … prepaid taxi no need to pay extra. u can complain to the Prepaid taxi desk ( phone number should be on bill u got). I take Meru / Mega from desk outside ariport exit door, little costly but they r better service nice cars tracked etc and no isssue as you only pay at counter outside airport. Uber ( no desk ) is far inside need to walk cross 3 roads to reach “App based Taxi” location ( sign clearly marked on boards ) where u can get ride. Food : I would not eat on streets unless its famous place ( hygiene issue ) Quick snacks I would try Uttapa ( veg pan cake ) Idli & Vada ( rice and lentle donuts ) Samosa ( fried spicy potato )
I keep reading some info on reddit and such that foreigner woukd need a local indian contact to vouch for you/reference. And provider would send an otp to them which makes it almost impossible for tourists to get one. Is that not true?
As an Indian, i simply avoid the private taxi and always use Uber/Ola. It's simple, cheap & hassle free. But 100rs is not much (You basically get 1 Litre petrol for it - 7-10 km of car travel in city is possible with 1 litre of petrol)
I went to Delhi 3 months ago and they tired to do the same thing to my partner and I. Fare was 600 but tried to charge 1000 at destination. But we really put our foot down and said NO. Paid 600 and walked away
Blusmart cab/taxi, the best, is available in Delhi (although not available in all cities in India). The other options are Uber, Ola, and inDrive. Install the apps. Safe and happy traveling. ❤from India.
Majority of places in India uses digital UPI payments...if you want change, then you can ask any nearby shops autodrivers or stalls will not have...Also since you are in Delhi the hub of scammers, say a firm no and put your foot down do not let anyone scam you be it rickshaws or sellers . Indian street life is like survival or fight of the fittest
India is always an adventure. Not always a pleasant one. Not surprising that they are losing out on foreign tourists compared to many other Asian destinations, when you need to struggle for almost everything.
Enjoyed your videos of Delhi! When you got the SIM Card at Delhi airport, did you need to give in a passport photo, only we've read online this might be the case?? Thanks Ant
Interesting video! QUESTION re your Airtel sim - I'm an avid Asia traveler and this will be my first time in Delhi and was wondering if the Airtel store found out and/or told you why your data never started for both you and your partner? I hope your info will help me avoid this issue when I buy my sim shortly. Was the Airtel service very good? DId you go anywhere outside Delhi? Did you get sick from eating any of the street food? Thanks for your help.
The guys in the Airtel shopped had it working withing minutes. It coverd us during our trip to other parts of the country and was decent. We didn't get sick during our trip.
Thanks for your reply. Great to hear you didn't get sick! Did you eat a lot of food at the small places? How many days were you there? My friend sent me a study that one third of name brand bottled waters contained bacteria including e-coli. So I am curious - you drank bottled waters and no problems? So that I can prevent my sim not working as yours did, what did the airtel people do or tell you as to what was wrong that both your phones didn't have data from the initial activation at the airport?
We were in India for a month. I bought the water form the reputation brand. About the Airtel SIM cards, I'm not sure what the exact problem was, maybe about some setting on my phone. However, the Airtel people did help me get my SIM cards working. They checked the settings on my phone and made sure that everything was correct.

Nice video for any first time foreigner landing in India. The scam pointers are really important because as a foreigner, prices quoted for you would be double or more. BTW you were scammed by the prepaid taxi guy also. You are not supposed pay anything extra. You can complain by calling the number on the receipt. They have the cab drivers details.
