  • In this video the radiator gets reinstalled and I finally get to do a compression test!
The results were good, from what I've read they should improve after it has run for a bit.

A ball of aluminum foil works magic on chrome. A polish after may help, but, Sharkhide seals it good for a few years.........and stop further rusting in the pin holes of the chrome......

Yup, ball of tin foil and coke-a-cola is what I used to clean the radiator wings up, followed by turtle wax chrome polish. I will look into the sharkhide because I do need a better sealant. There are some spots that the chrome is gone completely.

@@DustyDingus The sharkhide is nearly 40 bucks a can but well worth it. Or you could try some 2K Gloss Clearcoat, it is a non-yellowing formula but doesn't like to stick to chrome very well, (or stainless steel) AND SOME PREP NEEDS TO BE DONE, BASICALLY SANDING WITH NO GREATER THAN 600 GRIT TO PUT A FEW LINES IN IT TO HOLD THE PAINT. Sheet, how did I hit the caps lock button, sorry. 400 grit is better, slightly larger lines and only sand in one direction, not circularly. The lines will grip the paint . An adhesion promoter may help too, but, it cannot be a smooth surface if you use clearcoat. The Sharkhide don't care, it sticks anyway. I used it on my build for a few chrome/polished aluminum pieces. But I painted the Fork tubes gloss black cause the polishing would have taken days, and I just didn't wanna waste the time. Wire Wheel prepped it and painted em. They look great with VHT Gloss Black medium temp grade paint. I painted the triple tree the same color when I replaced the bearings. Now it makes the frame look old and tired..sigh. next winter project to remove the engine and do the frame...........Powder coat Gloss Black. Or maybe Gloss White, like the white but almost dont see the frame anyway.

Those engines need to be compression tested warm. Cold gives a false read.

I wouldn't say false reading but less than if it was warm from running. I dont have everything together yet to warm it up.

The common test is cold as it is a risk to pull plugs from a warm engine.

Your battery sounds too low to do a good compression test. The bike should be spinning right over with no plugs in and no intake.

It definitely was low, but the compression values were good for a bike thats been sitting a long time from what i've read on the forum. I expect them to rise after it has run.

DustyDingus i was wondering about that...the service manual from Honda states standard compression is 171psi and the service limit is 142psi or more than 15psi variation between cylinders. Yours looks a little low at 120-130psi no? Do you expect them to gain another 12psi after it starts running and warms up?

It is a little low but it runs well, I didn't repeat the compression test yet after its first time running in 5-6 years but i expect them to improve. I also plan to double check valve adjustment. I was pleased with the values I got because others I'd read had worse and still ran well.
