  • Day 1, 25 September 2024. The IPSC Africa Level IV Handgun Championship kicked off in Stilfontein, Matlosana, at the NWPSA Frontier shooting range-a site destined to host the prestigious World IPSC Handgun Championship in 2025. Shooters from across the globe converged here in the heart of South Africa’s North West Province, not just for the competition but for the camaraderie and the unique African shooting experience.
I had the privilege of competing in Squad 32, alongside two fellow South Africans and seven talented marksmen from Brazil. Altogether, there were nearly 50 squads, each with 8 to 10 participants, which made for a vibrant and bustling event. Shooting with the Brazilian team was not only fun but an eye-opener-they are exceptional athletes, and it was fascinating to learn from their techniques and strategies.
The energy on the range was electric. Meeting participants from different cultures, all united by a love for the sport, reminded me why events like these are so special. There's always something to learn, whether it's about improving your stance or just appreciating how others approach the sport.
Have you ever shot alongside international competitors? If so, what was your experience like? Leave a comment below, and let’s swap stories. And of course, stay tuned as we prepare for the main event-next year’s World Championship right here in Stilfontein.
