    I always watch barometric pressure. In my experience the bite is the best during falling and low barometric pressure before a storm. Every time I've been skunked was during a sustained high barometric pressure sytem.

      You are right because low pressure makes them feel comfortable and high pressure makes them feel uncomfortable. This guy in the video got it completely wrong.

    I was always told and experienced The fish biting during low pressure. I thought high pressure makes them less active

    Sorry pal I’m not trolling but you got this the wrong way round. The air bladder expands during high pressure. Low pressure makes them feel comfortable. Anything under 1020mb / 30.2inHg

      yep Zack you right. I remember back in the 50s fish tanks with little fishes was on the up so people could watch how their tank fish was reacting so they would know how fish was biting. Did it work, The fish catching people thought so. And I believed and still believe them old folks.

    SCIENCE LESSON: Pondsolo, You missed the first and most important rule of fluid dynamics. Water does not compress. It is impossible for a pocket of air below the surface of any body of water to be affected by air pressure outside the body of water. The water shields one air pocket from the other. Fish DO NOT feel pressure change at all. SO what is happening? Its about dissolved oxygen and other gases in the water. High pressure acts like a cork and keeps oxygen and other gas levels high in the water column while low pressure allows all of those gases to escape suspension in the water. It changes the atmosphere of the water so to speak. I did my homework.

    BUDDY I THINK U CONFUSED. LOW PRESSURE = GOOD FISHING, HIGH PRESSURE = BAD FISHING

  • @f2foutdoors
    @f2foutdoors 3 года назад +2

    Fish will suspend when pressure is high after a few days. Low pressure will give you more bites. Not saying they don't bite on a high pressure before a storm. Thanks for sharing the video. Tight lines.

    Awesome explanation. I never really understood how barometric pressure effects fish, but now I have a clear understanding and can make better decisions about when I fish, and if I am fishing doing a change in barometric pressure I will take you advice, because you know what you are talking about. Thanks so much. 😊 Just thought of something else, can you explain moon phases and how it effects fish?

      You're mistaken about barometric pressure and getting more bites during higher stable pressures. There are significantly more bites during the leading edges of fronts during falling pressure.

    Noticed BP effects especially in northern mn where I'm from, but noticed pike and walleye feed strong when they feel that bp dropping fast from a flash thunderstorm. They get lock jaw the first day of a cold front with significant drop in temp then pick back up 2-3 days later if temps stay normal.

      It is a really interesting thing to monitor. I mostly watch how it impacts bass... but every fish is totally different as every fish has a different sized air bladder. The bigger the bladder, the bigger the impact.

    Back in high school, a buddy and I stopped and got some minnows after school and hit a farm pond. No bites until a storm moved thru and it started raining and we caught 48 crappie but as the storm moved on and the rain stopped, so did the bites. Was the pressure low before and the storm caused it to rise and therefore caused the fish to bite?

    • @PhilS0341
      @PhilS0341 3 года назад

      No. More likely, the pressure was high before and the pressure dropped with the rain and that caused the fish to bite. When the pressure began to increase and the weather began to improve, it shut the fish off like a light.

    I have caught my biggest musky during a a rain storm in shallow water. High winds and waves seem to make them bite better. So why is that when the sun comes out and it heats up under high pressure, the bite quits? I think maybe you might have it wrong at least for musky and pike.

  • @grandwonder5858

    So, stable sunny weather, the barometric pressure is high? Stormy, rainy weather, the barometric pressure gets low? Is it true that low barometric pressure means that the weight of the air pushing down on us is great? In other word, the air is heavy? And high barometric pressure means that the air doesn’t push down on us as much, which means that the air is light? Thanks for doing a video on this topic as this is the most confusing aspect of fishing for me and it is extremely difficult to find a good video that could explain it well like you do!

    Great information, now I have more to consider than just pre-storm, post-storm, front coming in, front going out, or why the bite was so gentle or so aggressive. New Sub here!

      Thank you! Usually I just check the barometric pressure because the other things mostly just impact me... not the fish. SO as long as there is no lightning and the fish aren't uncomfortable it is usually a good chance of a good day.

      Yeah this is good info for sure.I also just found a fishing app that has helped me quite a bit. It's called "Fish Angler". You may have already heard of it but just in case. It has a map feature and it tells you the BP, weather, humidity etc. You can mark spots on the map for where you catch fish and post pictures, write what you caught them on etc. And you can click on everyone's elses who has posted and communicate with them kind of like social media. It's a really good resource to see when and where the fish are biting and to find new spots. I found a spot just the other day from it that has huge Smallmouth Buffalo. I personally don't like to eat them but there are a lot of fun to catch when they get big like that.

    Great video, trying to do some more research on BP. I was always told best bite is during a falling/low BP. Which has worked very well for me. But now you have me wondering if a rising bp is better bite. Your thoughts?

    Appreciate your effort bud, but this is the hardesst thing to figure out. Completely conflicting information out there. Ive been tracking the last couple years to little avail. I fish flatheads and never get bites in high pressure. The pressure here in IL, constantly goes up & down everyday, mega mountian spikes on the regular. If its going up above 29 i get nothing at all. If its around 28.5 ill catch fish. Then sometimes they're bonkers and other times not a single bite. High or rapidly rising pressure is a skunk everytime in my experience. Fishing for 10-40 lb flatheads. At least 5 lb... Bass are 1 of the easiest to catch, you can get them at anytime piece of cake. If theyre close by they bote no matter. Flatheads are 1 of the hardests to catch.

    Bro really? You have it backways. Think of pressure like weight on the fish. If its high then thats mire pressure excerted on the fish. Also, 29.92 is the norm. The marginal changes here should not be underestimated.

    Don't know what kind of fish your fishing for . But i am a big cat fisherman and we knock the hell out of catfish right before and during storms . I have found this to be true with most types of fish .This is the second video i have watched on this subject and they give totally opposite advise . The first video says the bite is best at the lowest reading . This guy says it's best at a higher reading . By experience fish bit best right before and during a storm . The higher the barometric pressure the better the fishing .

      "By experience fish bit best right before and during a storm . The higher the barometric pressure the better the fishing ."
      This is a contradiction. Storms aren't associated with high pressure, but low pressure.
