I admire Kirklees' enthusiasm for improving the town centre. I hope that the renewed civic pride inspired by the years of disruption that will be caused by these works will cause the more "stabby" of our residents to drop their knives out of respect. Seriously though, zoning the town centre into districts makes sense, as long as the council is thoughtful about parking solutions now that Queensgate multistorey has reached the end of its life. And has the council thought about the implications to industry when Electric vehicles become ubiquitous? Some serious investment in heavy charging hardware at Hartshead for example?
Looks very promising. Greener, more pedestrian friendly, a cultural hub, welcoming train station and an improved bus station. And finally, the co-op building restored to its former glory. If it turns out as impressive as the artists impressions you are onto a winner.
Is the cultural heart/piazza/library to be first on the list? Also will Queen Street be blocked off to traffic? Looking forward to it. Just hope it actually happens.
Hi Mark. Since we posted this, a lot of our Huddersfield Blueprint developments are now underway or completed! New Street now has a completely new look for shoppers, and we've made improvements in the civic quarter. You'll have seen developments and events around St. George's Square through ourselves, Historic England and the Transpennine Route Upgrade. Work around St. Peter's is due to be completed by this autumn, and renovations to Kingsgate Shopping Centre are also underway. And last but not least, the hoardings which have sprung up around Queensgate are for the work on Our Cultural Heart. We're very excited to see all these plans come to fruition!
@@KirkleesVideos Thanks for the prompt reply. It’s a number of years since I moved away from Huddersfield but have been back a number of times, last time being about 5 years ago. I have fond memories of the town and I am saddened to see negative videos posted on RUclips about Huddersfield’s demise. On a 360 drone video, it was nice to see Highfields quite clearly as my friends and I would have a kick about each evening in the early 70’s. From the air, Huddersfield looks like a nice place still. From what I could make out, Huddersfield Technical College was being demolished. That’s progress I suppose.
😂 Huddersfield is drug/alcohol & crime ridden, new parks and pedestrianised streets and a new lick of paint isn’t going to solve this. What’s the point in improving the train station when there’s nothing here to come to?

Thanks for the comment Rhys
An example of politicians doing not just talking. Well done Kirklees, huge improvement.
They should improve the skate park and keep the lights on for longer in the park

Thank you Craig, much appreciated.

Don't you need shops for a high street ?
I am a bit concerned that not much mention is made of library - art gallery - museum in the Cultural Hub part of the development.
When will this development happen? It looks almost ‘too good’.

What does it mean if the buildings are highlighted in red?
Areas in red are those being considered for improvement or development.
Thank you Alex for clearing that up.

There’s no church ,,,!
Brexit will delay this by a few decades
How?
Brexit :/
Its Huddersfield not Brussels. Hang on looks like you're wrong, well I never.
