Getting asked a lot about where the files are actually being stored and being edited from. They're backed up on the hard drive, but you're essentially editing off the file that is stored in Adobe's cloud (from when you import into LR). If you edit the photo from a different device you'll be editing off a "smart preview" of that image. You'll have the option to download the original file too as an option. Thought I'd clear that up!
You mentioned at the beginning of the video that you still use LR classic as your main tool. My understanding is that you store you pictures in the cloud for editing (back up in external hard drive). Therefore you may need more than 20GB cloud storage on a long trip. Anyway, what do you do after editing with pictures in the cloud in LR classic. Do you put the pictures back in a folder structure on an external hard drive or do you mix Album structure in cloud and Folder structure in LR classic? Thx in advance.

Hi Man, that is great video. One thing i dont understand. Once you import the photos into the ipad, you are creating copies in the ipad or you are editing the "original" from the hard drive?
Thank you very much for this very useful video ! I have a Fuji XT-30 and I want to buy an iPad Pro to edit my pictures with Lightroom. Did you met some issues editing/reading RAF files into iPad Lightroom app ? I know there are some problems on laptop versions (currently need a raw file converter with my MacBook Air). Thanks :)
This is very informative. Do you use Iridient X Transformer to convert Fuji Raw files to DNG format first for the best result? If not, I was wondering what your thought is. Much appreciated!
No but I use "enhance details" within lightroom for prints or website. If it's for Instagram or other social I don't bother with the higher quality file.
When photo culling... when you delete your rejects (unpicked in your case), can the files be deleted from disc like you can do in Classic? If not, how do you manage those files later? Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Faizal! I wanna know if importing photos from the external HDD to lightroom takes up the internal space of your ipad or it will just do the edit in the external drive. Thanks!
Faizal, have you experienced issues with not all photos being copied over? I went on vacation and had this happen. I think it has something to do with the buffer.
Hi Faizal! Thanks for the thorough walkthrough:) I have a question about the export options that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere: When choosing to export DNG files, what parameters can you adjust, like image size, compatability etc, compared to Lightroom classic? In my work I often need to export batches of DNG files with specific settings, not just fill size DNG. Once again, thank you!
Hi Faizal, super useful video here, pls keep up the good work! By the way, after finished processing your photos, what do you usually do with them? Leave them in the folder within the lightrrom mobile and waste the cloud space? I just wonder how can you back transfer the LR mobile photos back to LR destop version, you said you are still using LR classic a lot. And after download the photos to the destop hardrive back from cloud, how can we keep them organized, say in the catalogue or something like that, with keeping the whole pack of adjustments from the LR mobile maybe?
I’ve been doing all my editing on Samsung tablets for years and now you can adjust screen colors on the latest tablet for great accuracy. Going on a computer now is awkward.
How do you make sure your photos are exposed enough? I don't mean in-camera but more so in post-processing. When I edit on my iPad, I sometimes find myself going back to Lightroom after exporting my photos because some of them look too dim. This is one of my main gripes when editing on my iPad. Great vid as always though!
That’s a great question, and I don’t even know if I have an answer for you to be honest. I don’t think there’s a “right exposure” it’s more of a feel thing. Sometimes if I want my colors to “pop” more I’ll go brighter than usual. It depends on the feeling I want the picture to invoke so it’s always situational. As a tip though, you could always pull up other peoples’ images in a web browser just as a guide and get your images to a good brightness. I think some people refer to the histogram to make sure their exposure is at a good level. I don’t personally use it, but I’d look into it!
do you edit videos on the ipad too? or mainly on a computer? i'm debating getting an ipad just for editing videos but i'm not sure about the workflow. what do you do with all your footage after you edit out of your ssd? do you then copy everything onto two other external SSDs for backups and delete everything off your ipad and working SSD?
Hi! Thank You for the simple approach. Being a sports photographer I'm trying to adapt the iPad into my workflow. Great help Tks!!! Offcourse...liked and subs! Cheers ... and made the follow on IG and Tweeter! All the works!!!
Great video and just what I was looking for! Question: on Ipad, is it possible to import photos to Lightroom from a Google Drive folder? When I travel, I want to upload the pictures to Google Drive and it would have been nice if it was possible to edit the pictures directly from there.
Thanks for the video. I’m considering going to an iPad workflow using cc and keeping everything in the cloud (with raw files backed up on an external hard drive). When you import into LR is anything stored on the iPad? Is the huge LR catalog file in the cloud or the iPad? Thanks
Greetings Faizal, great video. Curious! What’s your process when you’ve finished editing on your iPad and have your export? Do you delete the files from your CC library?
I like to keep them in the CC library. Unless they're over a year old I might move them off, but I definitely don't delete them right after exporting since I tend to look at images and edits a lot differently after some time has passed. I like to go back to old shots and work on them again
Hi Faizal, thanks so much for the very helpful video. One additional question about exporting. What is your process if you want to move the images you worked on through the iPad / Lightroom Mobile and move them to Lightroom Desktop (classic) with all of your edits along with it? Can you please let me know when you have a chance? Thanks again!
Ehi! thanks a lot for this video, I was wondering if you are satisfied about how lightroom handles fuji's Xtrans sensor. I recently switched to the xt4 and in Lr the raws are strange, a bit muddy in the fine detail. thanks!
@@BR04LAN thanks, tbh I just switched to capture one, the lack of fine detail and worm effect was really annoying. I know that at the end of the day, on ig or even a small print, you can't notice it, but on C1 it's just better
Hi and thank you for this video! I did not understand one thing: the photos must necessarily be imported from the external hard drive into the ipad memory or can they be processed directly from the external hard drive?
You import from the external hard drive into Lightroom which essentially is the cloud/internet. The images are then processed through the cloud so you won't need the hard drive anymore or use the internal ipad storage either
Ah damn! I was waiting for your video this week. Hope you are following your strategy of 1 video per week thoroughly haha! Honestly, its another informative video, thanks for sharing this :) I myself edit on my iPad pro 12.9 2020, its really amazing!
One thing I cannot seem to find, is how to select a bunch of photos and apply edits to them at the same time. Like for example, I shot a full day in several locations, one of the locations (55 photos) needs uniform white balance adjustment. In any other software, I can select all 55 images and change the WB slider and it will apply to all 55 at once. In this software, however, even though all 55 are selected, the edit will only affect the one with the white selection border. Then I have to copy and paste the edits to each photo one at a time. The entire purpose of lightroom is to correct and grade many images very fast. So why is this so difficult all of a sudden?
Olá, Faizel, sou do Brasil e descobri seu canal há pouco tempo. Eu adoro a atmosfera do seu canal. Mas queria te pedir: pode habilitar as legendas automáticas nos videos? Assim eu consigo legendar para o português!
When you import the photos from your hard drive to lightroom for editing it - the photos are still on the hard drive? or is lightroom coping it to the iPad's hard drive?? If yes, how can I export them back to the harddrive? thx, good video!!
great video as always dude! I'm also a film photographer and I live right outside Boston and I would love to link up sometime if you're about it! Keep up the great work
How do you put a preset into a lot of photo at the same time? If I work on 500 pictures or if I want to use AutoCorrect in all my pictures like in the computer version.?
I heared that you cant cull or edit photos unless you import them to your device. Is that true? Here I see that you have photos on external drive so Im confused. I dont have tablet but im considering buying one and this is the deciding factor for me.
So when you deleted the files from LR CC did it also delete them from the external drive? Do you just leave all the files on the External files? Thanks, Nice video.
iPads still don't function like PCs so this is more for a hobbyist but even then I'd invest in a Laplet(laptop/tablet)that can take on the full version of pro editing softwares and function like PCs.
I really do not understand why you use this external hard drives. I noticed you have 256Gb internal storage (I have the same). When you import directly into Lr it starts to upload them in the Adobe cloud and leaves just a small version on the iPad. In the settings you can choose what albums you want full size downloaded. I recently had a day, with 1000 photos imported, I handled everything perfectly well. For the rest I have a very similar way of working, except that I do not use the non-classic version on my Mac.
How can you load many photos from hard drive to Lightroom through FILES without eating up a lot of storage of your iPad? It doesn’t work for me when we speak about hundreds of files
Can you help clarify, how do I import photos straight to my iPad, if I don’t want it to go on the iCloud. Do I have to import the photos to camera rolls/files, and then load it on Lightroom? Or can I import it straight into Lightroom. I don’t want any photos on iCloud.

Great video thank you, learned a bunch of tricks.
Hi thanks for the video. Quick question can you get Lightroom cc for the iPad?
I’ve been doing all my editing on Samsung tablets for years and now you can adjust screen colors on the latest tablet for great accuracy. Going on a computer now is awkward.
How do you make sure your photos are exposed enough? I don't mean in-camera but more so in post-processing. When I edit on my iPad, I sometimes find myself going back to Lightroom after exporting my photos because some of them look too dim. This is one of my main gripes when editing on my iPad. Great vid as always though!
Same question here!
@@FaizalWestcott Using other people’s photos as reference is a great idea. Thanks!
Invaluable, thank you!
do you edit videos on the ipad too? or mainly on a computer? i'm debating getting an ipad just for editing videos but i'm not sure about the workflow. what do you do with all your footage after you edit out of your ssd? do you then copy everything onto two other external SSDs for backups and delete everything off your ipad and working SSD?
Hi! Thank You for the simple approach. Being a sports photographer I'm trying to adapt the iPad into my workflow. Great help Tks!!! Offcourse...liked and subs! Cheers ... and made the follow on IG and Tweeter! All the works!!!
Such a good video! Really enjoyed it!
Great video and just what I was looking for! Question: on Ipad, is it possible to import photos to Lightroom from a Google Drive folder? When I travel, I want to upload the pictures to Google Drive and it would have been nice if it was possible to edit the pictures directly from there.
I lower the scale in geometry while I edit to have a white background to composite for not being able to change the black background.
Thanks for the video. I’m considering going to an iPad workflow using cc and keeping everything in the cloud (with raw files backed up on an external hard drive). When you import into LR is anything stored on the iPad? Is the huge LR catalog file in the cloud or the iPad? Thanks
Nice video. What is the name of the culling ap?
I didn't get it
Greetings Faizal, great video.
Thanks again!
why so cute?🫠 loved your voice🙈 just so cute🙈😻, been wanting to edit videos via gopro but still struggling until i watch your video…its like🫠….
Brilliant information!
05:00 WOW How can I forget that? 😂😂 been editing for almost a year with that on. Thank you so much! Really useful video :)
Could you explain please How did you put film simulation in the Lightroom?
This video was soooooooooo helpful!
Ehi! thanks a lot for this video, I was wondering if you are satisfied about how lightroom handles fuji's Xtrans sensor. I recently switched to the xt4 and in Lr the raws are strange, a bit muddy in the fine detail. thanks!
Try setting sharpening to 0. Lightroom has a history of not handling Fujifilm files well
@@BR04LAN thanks, tbh I just switched to capture one, the lack of fine detail and worm effect was really annoying. I know that at the end of the day, on ig or even a small print, you can't notice it, but on C1 it's just better
I use Capture One for my Raw files and mainly use LR mobile if I want to tweak a JPEG file out of camera to share immediately
@@BR04LAN I also use C1 only for raw files, I use jpegs only as a backup and film emulation preview :)
Hello i like ur editing ! Wherem can i get the camera matching editing for the photo? Thankyou
Honestly, its another informative video, thanks for sharing this :)
I myself edit on my iPad pro 12.9 2020, its really amazing!
Once you edit and export the photos you want to use/keep, do you delete the originals off the hard drive? Or do you keep everything you shot ?
Olá, Faizel, sou do Brasil e descobri seu canal há pouco tempo. Eu adoro a atmosfera do seu canal. Mas queria te pedir: pode habilitar as legendas automáticas nos videos? Assim eu consigo legendar para o português!
When you import the photos from your hard drive to lightroom for editing it - the photos are still on the hard drive? or is lightroom coping it to the iPad's hard drive??
If yes, how can I export them back to the harddrive? thx, good video!!
Photos are still on the hard drive (they’re never taken off), they’re just being copied to Lightroom’s cloud storage
great video as always dude!
I’m deleting them off of LR which is technically a cloud storage. I keep all originals on the external HDD and never delete them!
Is it possible to edit a wedding on my MacBook Pro in Lightroom CC and continue the editing process on my iPad Pro? If so how?
Hey is that a 11" pro ? I'm undecided on 11 or 12.9 :-)
Hey when you go to export settings you never go to more options, do you use any "Output Sharpening"? Thanks
iPads still don't function like PCs so this is more for a hobbyist but even then I'd invest in a Laplet(laptop/tablet)that can take on the full version of pro editing softwares and function like PCs.
Do you ever backup your catalogue or export it on desktop?
How can you load many photos from hard drive to Lightroom through FILES without eating up a lot of storage of your iPad? It doesn’t work for me when we speak about hundreds of files
Can you help clarify, how do I import photos straight to my iPad, if I don’t want it to go on the iCloud.
Do I have to import the photos to camera rolls/files, and then load it on Lightroom? Or can I import it straight into Lightroom.
I don’t want any photos on iCloud.
Is it possible to do the color edit in LR and after that open in PS and do the skin retouch?
Can the Ipad handle this workflow or is it only on PC
Does your iPad heat while editing? Mine does, especially when its also charging.
is this hyperdrive working with ipadpro 2021 that you know. thanks a lot
Is there support for Super Resolution in LR on the iPad Pro?
