This sounds like a very cool series! Curious, do you have any idea of how many albums you may feature from each decade? or maybe it'll be an ongoing series, not really limited in numbers, etc?
As far as John Grant, I should check this one out per your description and a couple of factors. Although I mostly know his name per the Irish musician/band FJOKRA, who is a HUGE favorite of mine (despite a very limited amount of recordings), covered his tune "GMF."
Also Queen of Denmark is his highest rated album on rateyourmusic, although I actually wishlisted 1 of his others many years ago, but am unsure if I ever heard it.
Also interesting to learn about his history with Midlake. Did any of the Midlake guys actually appear on the record?
Favorite albums from the 2010's? well, it's a long list, but just to offer up some of them that I'm unsure if you know:
    -The River Empires - Epilogue
-Pepe Deluxe - Queen of the Wave
-Small Leaks, Sink Ships - Face Yourself and a Remove Your Sandals
I talked about those and to be honest, the large majority of them in those 2 big series of videos I made with those Top 200 Albums lists (Prog in December, and Prog Metal in January that I just finished yesterday). They're also on Facebook and my Rateyourmusic page (and Blog?, if not, I need to put up the Metal one soon).

The plan is to do 10 albums for each decade, one video per week.
As I understand it, Midlake produced and performed everything besides John’s piano and vocal.
I’ve been meaning to watch your series. Not sure if you came up with it, but modern progressive art rock is a great label.

@@MattOLearyMusic thanks saying that . "Modern progressive art rock" maybe will stick after struggling for almost 20 years on what to call this stuff. It sort of fits the umbrella term a little better than just calling it "Modern Prog" or even "Alternative Prog" or something.
I'm listening to the Queen of Denmark right now. This is dreamy stuff. Enjoying the piano and the strings. John Grant has a voice that almost would fit with Midlake in some ways, so I'm not surprised that this works.
Some of this reminds me of Nick Drake actually.
