II. Andante sostenuto
III. Scherzo. Allegro vivace
IV. Allegro ma non troppo
Wilhelm Kempff: piano
Thank You these Schubert Sonatas by Kempff are the most perfect I,ve ever heard. Amasing.
That's a rather famous pic if Lipatti. He composed too and recorded Enescu sonata for left hand we luckily have in live concert . Amazing thing is I've never heard his Schumann and Greig concerti . Broadcasts keep appearing! There's one of him in Chooin fmin. I can't believe it exists . Now Kempf we even have him in film but none with Lipatti but several of him with Mme. Lipatti a famous teacher , his wife . No idea who or why I'm typing.
It's my pleasure James!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Thank you, Eva...I do so appreciate with all the gratitude that I can muster....your channel. I mean...all that Schubert!...Thank You!...
I have listened to the Andante second movement of this Schubert piano sonata D960 with five outstanding pianists Artur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Alfred Brendel, Andras Schiff, and Wilhelm Kempff. They are all good, and their performances and interpretatons are similar.
Dear Eva,
Since Kempff´s recording is the standard for this sonata, would you be as kind as to post the whole pice?
Most obliged for the effort and patience,
Klaus Rudolf Ehrhardt
That IS Dinu Lipatti in the photo. But it sounds very much like Kempff -- even with much of the sonata missing. How disappointing.
Se c'è una cosa in cui Kempff è insuperabile è la dinamica, soprattutto sui piano e pianissimo. Riusciva ad ottener degli effetti inauditi. Veramente al paragone sembra che altri pianisti abbiamo le dita di piombo.
Lipatti plays no Schubert sonata, only the impromptous are recorded. you are right the pic is for sure not Kempff, looks similar to Lipatti. Kempff was for me at Beethoven, Schumann and Schubert at his best. He said in one of his last interviews, that Schubert was the luck of his older days. I´m not sure if any pianist play a whole Schubert cycle at cd before him.
Hi,, isn't the photo of Dinu Lipatti??????????
+U38066 Exactly my first reaction!
Yes it is. I don't think there's a recording of him playing the Schubert. I wish there was.
I am oretty sure the photograph is of Kempff but as a much younger man. It would be interesting tp know the date of the recording. It certainly sounds relatively modern
There are many photos of Mr Kempff as a very young man on the net, this is definitely not his photo, although the playing sounds very much like him.
It's me pleasure James!
Thank you for your kind words!
I am buffled what has Dinu Lipatti to do with this recording
It's beautiful... but where's the rest of it?!!
It cuts off halfway through the second movement!
Here are two recordings of Kempff complete: From 1967: ruclips.net/video/TrRSQboCGxQ/видео.html
and from 1950: ruclips.net/video/TMuhkJ8KPhM/видео.html
Is this recording from the "complete" sonata edition that Kempff recorded on Deutsche Grammophon i 1960s or an older one ...?
Why is it incomplete?
Because the up loader is a music ignorant
It's amazing how much Wilhelm Kempff looks just like Dinu Lipatti
They were twin brothers.
Un compositeur emprun de Divinité, un pianiste béni des Dieux : un Miracle Musical !!
Mais quel enfer de couper la vidéo en plein milieu 😡😡😡
This photo is Dinu Lipatti. Is Lipatti also the performer, or is it Kempff?
I agree with you. The problem with people who upload music and videos is, they just don't what they are doing: Searching RUclips for a movie or some music will give astonishing results. For instance this case which is not the exception but the rule, it also lists the four movements. Purported "whole" or "complete" movies are no longer than a few minutes at best.

it is incomplete!!!!!
this picture shows: DINU LIPATTI.
solo los movimientos 1 y 2 están en este registro que álguien subió.
EvaYoung or Young Eva, whichever,
If your piano playing is as good as your uploading of Kempff's recording of Schubert Piano Sonata in B flat Major D960, I would think you are quite a bad pianist.
The sonata is incomplete and, not only that, but the second movement is cut short.
So, what have you done to the rest of the sonata, have you eaten it?
Learn music, piano playing, and uploading recordings!!!
The second movement of the Sonata in B flat Major D960 is more than music in its ecstatic unequalled beauty. And Kempff plays it worthily. To cut it is unconcevaible.
BUT YOU DID CUT THE WHOLE SONATA! What you are saying ("The second movement of the Sonata in B flat Major D960 is more than music in its ecstatic unequalled beauty. And Kempff plays it worthily. To cut it is unconcevaible").is not a reply to my comment, it has nothing to do with it (which, by the way, was wrong as you have cut short the whole sonata, not just the second movement!) The total length of what you have uploaded is 28:39 minutes. So, you have shortened the sonata by not "less than 15 minutes, depending on which performers recorded this sonata: Alfred Brendel's recording is 37:10 minutes long. Lazar Beman's is 49:00 minutes long. Sviatoslav Richter's is 46:30 minutes long. And so on and s forth. Can you think of a better reply to my comment?
Do you read here "EvaYoungPianist"?? I'm nothing to do with the upload. And calme down, please. Nobody sold you anything.
I'm so sorry! I've got carried away as I was in the stupid pianist page and believed I was reading her reply.
Please forgive me. I should have made sure I was replying to her. Won't happen again.
It is appalling to upload such a fragment
