- It can be difficult to suspend heavy things in resin, especially rocks, without them just falling to the bottom of the mould, especially if you have a slow cure or really thin resin. This video shows the method that I use to get great looking suspended heavy objects including rocks in your resin.

Did You Know You Can Suspend Heavy Objects in Resin
Warning: Important Health and Safety Notice:
Resin is an industrial chemical and as such should always be treated with respect and the manufacturers safety advice taken. Here is a video I have made on how I keep myself safe: • Stop Making Yourself I...
Love how they look like they're floating in water. A particularly nice piece!
I love how this turned out ! Genius ! You always surprise me and I learn something in all your videos ! Thank you so much 😊💙💙💙
It’s so cool that you can’t see the thread. I truly appreciate how hard you work to put out these videos for us. Thank you so much, Steve. ❤😊
That was Absolutely Awesome Steve Mcdonald
Hello Steve. First I'd like to say that I'm very glad that you're feeling better, and that you see how many people really do care about you as being a good person. (I had said special prayers for your strength that you'd continue to use your God-Given talents). Secondly, it goes without saying, but you've done it again. I have some heavier stones just like you have, and I thought that they'd look really nice in resin, but I only thought of them being put in a necklace, where they could cure flat. I never thought about them being in something like the mold that you used. That type of mold would make a nice decoration in a room, or be given as a momento. Your idea even made me think of them being put in a pyramid, but I'll have to figure that out, since it flips over. Well, nice job, and thankx for again stimulating my thoughts on how to make different types of projects. I can't wait to see your next video's on both of your channels.
I love watching your videos
That’s a lovely mould and great way to suspend pieces thank you.
I think that came out extremely well and the stones/glass looked great in the resin. It was a good way to use them, clever using the clear cord! I have learned so much from you Steve. Lots of clever ways to do things that make life simpler. Thank you Steve. God bless you and your family.
Thankyou once again for the inspiration & sharing your knowledge of how to do things..have a great day Steve
Love the bubbles too ❤️❤️❤️
Well you've convinced me to purchase this mold! Wow!
Terrific. And thanks for the ideas. You are such a great presenter.
That is so pretty, especially the sea glass, since they're so transparent. This was, yet again, an awesome tip!
Absolutely gorgeous I saw what looked a rose Quartz, blue lace agate and you identified the tigers eye 🥰
That is really cool!!! I bet if you used a finer clear fishing line you may not see the strings at all, but you are right you really have to get close to see them.
You did it again, it came out awesome Steve 👌 👏
They also use that clear cord for beading and jewellery making, if that helps for people to find it.
I love your attitude about things and remind me of an old dear friend from my past. Blessings to yo
Happy blessed Sunday to you
Great idea cheers for sharing 👍
I luv it! Fishing line is so useful for so many things
Very cool I always love your hints to make my job easier.
Looks great! Enjoyed your process
Steven this was a Awesome job .
Fantastic technique, thank you Steve
What a fantastic idea Steve...I love how it turned out 🤩
Such a cool idea!!! It looks great! Xx
That is so awesome! I love that the clear thread doesn't show up at all after the resin is cured! Something I will definitely try.
Excellent!!! ❤
Love this!
Love this mould
You could cut a small hole in the "hanging top" you made, as well. After placing in the suspended items, use the small hole to "top-up" your resin perfectly to reach the very top of the mold. That way no resin overspills from putting in too much at the start, and you're not short either.
I've done that before and it works great. I didn't see the link for the light base in the description though. Heidi
How clever!! My husband & I are rock hounds and have ended up with more than what we can display well. This is such a great idea! We have a lot of clean quartz crystal points that I have used by sticking them in trays & shelves but we have a lot of colored stones that I just hadn't come up with an idea I liked - until now! Like you I love the little bubbles in the resin.
Once again, thank you for sharing your great ideas. You have the most creative mind to come up with all these ideas.
Thanks Sreve..I had.a.nightmare trying to suspend a boat in a triangle mold
I just had to stop and say YAY!!! 🤗💕🥰
Great idea! Thanks for the info. Also a GREAT BIG THANK YOU for introducing JDiction resin to us. I love it. Tried the small bottle & have already purchased the half gallon set…
Cool idea
Steve you are the best.
Steve, that is awesome!
Love the concept! Thank you!
Thanks!
I was just looking at this mold and bam video popped up so guess my mind is made up lol love it
My husband got the UV Beast last November and loved it so much he gave one to a friend for Christmas who also LOVES it! Last month I couldn't find my nail light and my husband suggested I use it to cure my pieces with it and I love it too!
This is how I would have tried to go about it so I’m glad you’ve shown that it works! Thanks once again for taking one for the team 👍
Steve, that's gorgeous! Must be all the squidgy widgying!
Gorgeous. I just got this mold 2 days ago & you just saved me a tonne of mistakes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & talent. It’s so appreciated x
Great way to suspend stuff to do one pour!
Omg that's sooo pretty!!
BEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks for sharing 👍
This is so unique. I will try one! TY
Oh, now that is just so cool, Steve! It turned out great! ❤
Some tiny fish and underwater plants would be a great idea! You could even leave a half inch space (2 or 3 cm?) at the top of the mold, let it cure, cut off the strings, and then top it off with sand and tiny pebbles mixed in resin. How cool would that be?
Fantastic idea.
What a brilliant 💡 idea! As soon as I saw this, I thought of my pyramid mold. I love the bag mold you used and I thought of my resin goldfish before you mentioned it. (They say great minds think alike!). I have a large collection of stones and crystals as well. I really missed watching your videos while I was in the hospital. Thank you so much, I cannot tell you how much I enjoy watching all the crafts that you do. You brightened my day very much!!! 🤗 Hugs
Just luv it 🥰❤️❤️
This seems to be an easier way than other ways I have seen.
Hey, many thanks for this super-handy tip. Really glad I found you and your fab channel. J ☺️ x
I absolutely love all of your videos. Thanks for being so awesome!
Great video, love your videos and your laugh!
love it x
This is genius! Thank you Steve! Always exciting to watch new ideas!
I love watching your videos. You have taught me so much and I appreciate all the ideas. Also, I have depression too and I'm so happy you didn't let the trolls change what you do! Thank you for all your work!
You are so clever!
Glad you did rhis mould as i have it, but, nor tried it yet x
Super great idea! Love how this turned out. Thank you Steve 😊!!
Wow, I would never've thought of that, this is great! Looks really cool!
That’s cool it’s like a pet rocks
I use monofiliment 0.004 Quilting Thread which is finer than the finest fishing line.
Maravilloso !!! me encanta, gracias por compartirlo
I love that mold a gift bag right ? I have a similar mold but yours it prettier 😉 I really liked the way it turned out. You got the bubbles you wanted I see them but don't see the string so cool thanks for the tip . Many thanks for sharing another great video Steve hugs from Québec Canada 🇨🇦 🤗 🫂
Looks great.
Nice
Another brilliant video. Thank you Steve
HI Steve, I really loved it especially with the light so pretty thanks for sharing 👍 Steve please can you tell me can I use the ordinary resin & fill the mold in a few pours thanks All the best Lin ✨👍
What a great idea!! Thank you for the helpful tips!
Love it❤️
Love it
Steve,
That mold came out great with the stones & glass, I think the purple is amethyst, I really couldn't tell what the others were.
I loved this video and I really need your help with floating large items in epoxy…My wife has passed and I I want to create a large glasslike epoxy piece with her personal and most favorite belongings inside of it to like some of her favorite things inside of it like her perfume bottles, some of her high end makeup, her quite large designer hand bag, her sunglasses and several pictures. I feel this would be the perfect way to preserve her items and honor my best friend and my wife and I know you are the only person in the whole world that can help me make this a reality…PLEASE HELP ME!
I love it!!
Thank you for sharing. I used hot glue and the rocks fell down as soon as I put resin in. My next idea was tape, this is much smarter.
Seriously love your videos! I have used so many of your fantastic tricks in my projects. You also got me hooked on JDiction deep pour. I will never use a different resin... excellent quality!
Hey, Steve, put some dried flower buckets in this mold, i really wanna see how that will turn out. Small flower buds bucket :)
That mold would look so cool with little fish suspended
Coooooooool!
Just an idea- rather than including the plastic top, you probably could have just used the uv resin and cured the line on the outside of the silicone where you wanted them. Then once cured pull the cured uv resin right off. Idk- work smarter not harder 😜 lovely work
Very cool
I am learning so much from you Steve . I was thinking the same thing on how to suspend the rocks . You are very clever . I think I’m just getting better at resin . Have great crafting adventures.
This came out awesome! And what's the difference or reason for using deep pour resin vs the normal jdiction resin? Is there a lot of difference? I can't quite find an answer online .-.
In a deep mold, some regular resins can flash cure, overheat/smoke, or fuse to the mold. One fix is just to use your normal resin but fill the mold in multiple pours instead of one :)
Love this you should put a fish in it lol
To fine thread easily paint it with nail varnish
Soooo cool 😎
Chalcedony, agate and red Jasper or carnelian I think . Lol
Fish would have been perfect for that mold!
Bee-you-tee-ful!!!
cool!
Really love the look of that mold and how your suspension of the stones worked out. I was wondering though if you have a link to those LED lights, I am having trouble sourcing them at a half decent price.
Beautiful… I can’t wait to see it with goldfish….
Have you ever put kinetic sand in resin?
@steve MacDonald i don't have deep pour resin, how can I do a "deep pour" with regular epoxy resin. I have this same mold and want to make some cool projects. Thank you for the help!
Does fishing line work? I guess I'll find out.. test it first
