- The use of the femtosecond laser in cataract surgery has changed procedures in recent years. Steps that were performed manually before lens extraction can now be performed with laser precision.
With the new procedure, the eye is first immobilised so that the laser fractures the cataract and makes the openings without the need for a scalpel. The ophthalmic surgeon then suctions out the cataract and inserts a new intraocular lens in its place.
Dr. Juan Luís García Madrona also explains the different types of intraocular lenses that we implant in Cataract Surgery and their respective advantages.
This more technologically advanced surgery increases precision and safety.
