I messed up and plugged in my filter too soon. It is now making a lot of noise in the canister. I unplugged it.

No need to use mouth.Fill the tube with water, then plug in back into the canister. It will start flowing. Unfortunately for me, the canister did not seal properly and it was gushing out the top. I did not moisten the gasket as advised, but the gasket was properly installed (per Petco employee who has three of these units). Frustrated I am running my new setup with an over the tank Marineland filter that is 30 years old. I used a gravel vacuum.
So I will try again before returning.

Same. Been trying to get it started for an hour now. Never had this problem with any other filter. Brand new out the box.
