Enjoyed your video. Just got home, (I'm a troll, unfortunately), from the UP after walking across the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day. Enjoyed watching your adventure down some of those back roads. The LED lights are fantastic, much better than Lucas Flame Throwers on my old 76 CJ-7 Jeep. They were the size of large dinner plates, bright like the LEDs, but needed battery sized cables to connect to the relay you used to turn them on and while on, you could not stand closer to the front of the Jeep than 15 feet because of the heat. I used them 3 times in about 6 months, then traded them to someone for a swing-away-Tire carrier to get rid of the side mounted spare. Love your Subaru, just traded in my old Subaru for another Jeep, a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trail hawk. I needed better tow capability than Subaru provides. I also like the superior off road capability, but do not like the lower fuel economy. (Averaged 30 mpg in the Subaru only averaging 25 mpg in the Jeep.)

Trailers many miles and all terrains do yourself a great big favour and get one of those 12 volt tire pumps ive had the same one for 20 years in my truck that has gotten me and a few of my freinds out of trouble many times especially in rural areas
Thanks Craig. I have been looking at them on Amazon. They appear to be of pretty variable quality from just barely acceptable to unacceptable. I am still looking for a good one. The users all complain they get flaming hot. Recently there appears to be a group of two piston models that inflate faster but still get quite hot. Any models to investigate would be appreciated. =Cosmo SUBSCRIBE and See my other videos at ruclips.net/user/CosmoWeems
when you got to that sandy place and talked about deflating ,,I assumed that you were talking about tires . I seen a report that isn't helping because when you let air out of your tires then the middle part of the tire will lift up and you actually have less tire on the surface. Sort of made sense to me ,however ,,with all wheel drive ,,you should be able to go about any where I would think. I have a friend who pulls a small trailer with an all wheel drive and I am amazed at where he goes without any or much problems. I guess it also the type of tires you have ...I really .Enjoy your videos ,,
Thanks Paul, I have stock tires which are for pavement. I am very happy to have the luxury (for me) of all wheel drive. You can still get stuck but it helps to have as much on my side as possible. I do carry a tow strap in case I get stuck. If course you still have to find someone in the middle of nowhere! There were many roads I could not go on. If it looks bad I walk it first and try and tell if I can get thru. If possible I let someone else go first. It seems like ground clearance is a bigger issue when rocks are around. I carry a ruler to measure and make sure I can clear things. Repairs are expensive! I wish I had a spotter with me many times. But its all part of the adventure =Cosmo Thank You for watching. Those trees could of been planted after a lumber company cut the original trees down. Lumbering was big business in Michigan in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Ford Motor Company owned over 300,000 acres at one time. I think there was 20 cubic feet of wood used in a Model T. It`s also where Kingsford Charcoal was started. Wood debris from Ford sawmills was used to create charcoal. www.thehenryford.org/collections-and-research/digital-collections/expert-sets/101416/
There also was something called the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) One of their missions was to replenish trees in the country. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_Conservation_Corps The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men. Originally for young men ages 18-25, it was eventually expanded to ages 17-28.[1] Robert Fechner was the first director of the agency, succeeded by James McEntee following Fechner's death. The CCC was a major part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal that provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state, and local governments. The CCC was designed to provide jobs for young men and to relieve families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression in the United States. Maximum enrollment at any one time was 300,000. Through the course of its nine years in operation, 3 million young men participated in the CCC, which provided them with shelter, clothing, and food, together with a wage of $30 (about $570 in 2017[2]) per month ($25 of which had to be sent home to their families).[3] CCC-built bridge across Rock Creek in Little Rock, Arkansas The American public made the CCC the most popular of all the New Deal programs.[4] Sources written at the time claimed[5] an individual's enrollment in the CCC led to improved physical condition, heightened morale, and increased employability. The CCC also led to a greater public awareness and appreciation of the outdoors and the nation's natural resources, and the continued need for a carefully planned, comprehensive national program for the protection and development of natural resources.[6] Enrollees of the CCC planted nearly 3 billion trees to help reforest America; constructed trails, lodges, and related facilities in more than 800 parks nationwide; and upgraded most state parks, updated forest fire fighting methods, and built a network of service buildings and public roadways in remote areas.[7]
Cosmo, I noticed that your Vestabule camper has a tongue box that's attached to the sleeping compartment and is accessible from the inside. Haven't seen that on any other model. Was that a special order? And if so, how pricy was that?
Hi George. yes its a one off. Vistabule did it for me in 2005. It was such a pain for them to do it the said no more. One other Vistabule has a tongue box. They originally intended to put th air conditioner in there (that is what the other trailer has. But they since moved the AC into the headboard where it rides better and does not add tongue weight. Its a collectable! It was $500 extra when I ordered it. They said the price would be a thousand or more when they finished it. They have one basic design now and wont do it again. Others have asked. The interior is pretty roomy with lots of storage without the tongue box. So its not necessary. The exterior tongue box gives more storage outside. Having said that. I love it.! =Cosmo Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos SUBSCRIBE ruclips.net/user/cosmoweems

This is not a quick answer question. This is a data driven decision. You need to know the tongue weight for the specific T@G trailer. Does the trailer come with electric brakes? You need to know the tongue weight capacity the car suspension can acceptYou need to know the weight of the trailer and if the car can tow that weightSubtract the weight of the car occupants, contents, camping gear - everything from the Gross vehicle weight. Also subtract the tongue weight from the Gross vehicle weight too. Subaru recommends not using an after market trailer hitch. The Subaru hitch integrates with the cars crumple zone protecting the passengers. After market bolt on models do not (on my Outback). =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems I am subscribed and even turned on the notifications. I find you videos very useful for the gear ideas. I like you monologues. They are funny. Never hold back and say whatever comes to mind. That's where the entertainment value comes in. You should try to interview more people and be a little goofy funny. Keep it up, we'll be watching! Great job:)
Towing s determined by yow much weight the car can pull (and stop) and the tongue weight the suspension can accommodate. My car (Subaru outback) can tow about 2000 pounds and the tongue weight maximum is 200 pounds. These numbers vary from vehicle to vehicle. My trailer weights 1500 pounds loaded with gear and water. My trailer has electric brakes. You can get far lighter teardrops or far heavier trailers. You have to crunch your own numbers on this. Many mid size passenger cars can tow 1500 pounds and accommodate a 150 pound tongue weight Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweems SUBSCRIBE ruclips.net/user/cosmoweems?sub_confirmation=1

Car alternator charges the car. Car charges the trailer when running and trailer is connected. Trailer is charged by solar panels when not connected to the car. I can live off gird indefinitely as far as electric goes. Trailer battery and solar charges all my other stuff if I am not driving.
I knew I had chosen my words badly - I meant boost if it were needed (the forgetting to unhook the trailer thing). I'm hoping to do some camping next summer and am hanging on your every word about preparation.
If I camped several days and did not unhook the trailer you are correct the trailer would drain the car and the car would not start. I do not carry boost cables or another type of battery. I just remember to unhook the trailer. I have had the trailer 3.5 years and this was the first time I did not unhook it.
Most trips I unhook the car and move it (to get a better view out of the window of the trailer). Its really not a problem. You could bring jumper cables as insurance but you woud need another car. You are taking a trailer camping? If so what kind?

Enjoyed your video. Just got home, (I'm a troll, unfortunately), from the UP after walking across the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day. Enjoyed watching your adventure down some of those back roads. They are a lot of fun even if some are a bit of a white knuckle ride. Usually more fun in retrospect than when wondering if you are going to make it through. ;-) Recognized some of the spots you didn't name. I'm still hoping to make it back up in my Teardrop before the year is over.
I hope you make it back Lynne. Its a special place with its own culture. I saw a dozen teardrops on this trip. I was happy to see so many. Mine was the dirtiest. so I know I saw more UP than most people. Ha ha ha See my other videos at ruclips.net/user/CosmoWeems

Thanks for your comment. I was totally impressed by the light bar and the Toyota FJ in genera; This was my first off road and the UP was a great place to start. Loved it. Enjoy the Jeep there were times I wished I had one on tis trip. SUBSCRIBE and See my other videos at ruclips.net/user/CosmoWeems

Great video you dont want a bike pump that would take forever ive towed.

There also was something called the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) One of their missions was to replenish trees in the country.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_Conservation_Corps
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men. Through the course of its nine years in operation, 3 million young men participated in the CCC, which provided them with shelter, clothing, and food, together with a wage of $30 (about $570 in 2017[2]) per month ($25 of which had to be sent home to their families).[3]
CCC-built bridge across Rock Creek in Little Rock, Arkansas
The American public made the CCC the most popular of all the New Deal programs.[4] Sources written at the time claimed[5] an individual's enrollment in the CCC led to improved physical condition, heightened morale, and increased employability. The CCC also led to a greater public awareness and appreciation of the outdoors and the nation's natural resources, and the continued need for a carefully planned, comprehensive national program for the protection and development of natural resources.[6]
Enrollees of the CCC planted nearly 3 billion trees to help reforest America; constructed trails, lodges, and related facilities in more than 800 parks nationwide; and upgraded most state parks, updated forest fire fighting methods, and built a network of service buildings and public roadways in remote areas.[7]

Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos

I've been camping in the U.P. most of my life. The Delorme Atlas is more trustworthy than a GPS. A GPS will send you down some crazy long dirt roads. Google Maps doesn't show many of the campgrounds that the Delorme does.

Hey Cosmo, quick question. Can I trailer a Tag Teardrop with a class 1 after market hitch on an Audi A4? What do you think?
This is not a quick answer question. This is a data driven decision.
You need to know the tongue weight for the
specific T@G trailer. Does the trailer come with electric brakes?
You need to know the tongue weight capacity the car suspension can acceptYou need to know the weight
of the trailer and if the car can tow that weightSubtract the weight of the car occupants, contents, camping gear - everything from the Gross vehicle weight. Also subtract the tongue weight from the Gross vehicle weight too.
Subaru recommends not using an after market trailer hitch. The Subaru hitch integrates with the cars crumple zone protecting the passengers. After market bolt on models do not (on my Outback).

Depends on what options you get. See www.vistabule.com
what is the smallest car that can tow a teardrop trailer?
Towing s determined by yow much weight the car can pull (and stop) and the tongue weight the suspension can accommodate. My car (Subaru outback) can tow about 2000 pounds and the tongue weight maximum is 200 pounds. These numbers vary from vehicle to vehicle. My trailer weights 1500 pounds loaded with gear and water. My trailer has electric brakes. You can get far lighter teardrops or far heavier trailers. You have to crunch your own numbers on this. Many mid size passenger cars can tow 1500 pounds and accommodate a 150 pound tongue weight Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweems SUBSCRIBE ruclips.net/user/cosmoweems?sub_confirmation=1

what do you carry to charge your battery in the car should it die?
I am aware of my declining memory when tired.
Most trips I unhook the car and move it (to get a better view out of the window of the trailer). Its really not a problem. You could bring jumper cables as insurance but you woud need another car. You are taking a trailer camping? If so what kind?
