Keep up the great work. I am a Mid-level working in family medicine. Your videos help me treat my patients more effectively before I refer to derm. So please keep up the good work and don't be afraid to educate about specific medications and treatments that are appropriate at the family care level. I work for a federally qualified health center so many of my patients can not afford to go to derm. So you are helping those patients.

My 36 y.o. son has had issues with flakiness on his scalp (and face) for years, but last year began noticing some hair loss and thinning at the crown of his head. At his annual dermatologist visit in November, she prescribed ketoconazole shampoo for him. He also started taking a daily oral biotin supplement. Between the shampoo and the biotin, the hair loss seems to have abated and the area that had exhibited thinning has filled in almost completely.

Can you tell me what kind of shampoo?
I already started the vitamins a few weeks ago and I bought biotin conditioner. I keep seeing studies on minoxidil but it seems once you stop using it the regrown hair will fall back out and there are some scary side effects. I have never heard of ketoconazole until today. When I looked it up there were creams with the ingredient saying it was for other things but then some said for hair loss. I saw one shampoo. I’m not sure if it makes a difference between the shampoo and the cream but from this video and your comment it seems like the shampoo is the way to go.

@@amandamcbride1083 Nizoral is amazing. It's the best brand I've heard of. My daughter has been using it for years. She had to go to a dermatologist because her dandruff was so bad. She had some other topical treatments along with this shampoo recommended. Now she just uses the Nizoral once a week or so to maintain. I use it as well (once a week) and it cleared up my initial dandruff after one use. If I skip weeks, though, it will gradually return. But I am also now using it for hair growth. I love my showers at night before bedtime. I don't think I could sleep without taking one. Anyway, that's when I apply my antiperspirant. Also, I use the "clinical" ones. They are stronger and I only need to apply once after my night time shower. It lasts easily for 24 hours.

@@stephaniesmith4114 can I ask what the clinical ones are called please?

    • @stephaniesmith4114
      @stephaniesmith4114 12 дней назад

@@Bea_Rosy I use the "Secret" brand for a clinical antiperspirant. "Suave" also has a line and there are a few others to choose from. The reason they are stronger is because the aluminum zirconium in it is 20% strength, whereas the regular antiperspirants are about 11% (I could be wrong on this number, because I can't remember the last time I used the regular ones, but I know it was at least half as much as the 20% one I use now).
The clinical ones are a little more expensive, but they last twice as long. I used to put antiperspirant on after my evening bath, and then the next day after my shower before going into work. The product says it lasts for 72 hours. I wouldn't know if it lasted that long because I could never go without a shower for 72 hours to test it out! All I know is it works 24 hours for me with one application.
It's definitely worth a try, especially with so many different brands and fragrances (or non-fragrances) available. 🙂

I lost a lot of hair one year when my doctor prescribed a higher dose of my thyroid medicine. It was almost like male pattern baldness. I went to my dermatologist and she gave me shots on my scalp, all the while telling me that it may not help. I was desperate so we did that. Then my hair started growing back. I don’t know if the shots helped but the hormones for my thyroid finally kicked in and I regrew my hair. It was about six months before that happened. My hair is back! I did cut it short but hopefully I’ll never go through that again.

I keep KP under control by simply exfoliating in the shower and using Cerave moisturizing cream. I am an elderly woman with androgenic and age-related alopecia and I've had some luck with using Nizoral ketoconazole shampoo every other wash, and rosemary oil applied at night. It's possible that big companies (Rexona, Dove, Nivea etc.) develop and improve their anti-perspirants based on the usage habits of most people, and most people use them in the morning. Advertisements and marketing material for anti-perspirants also tend to show people applying the products and then going about their day.

Hello, I have a question that I hope you can help me with.
I have vitiligo. I do not use any brightening substances such as niacinamide, arbutin, or lactic acid, because they can lighten spots and have some kind of effect on melanin. However, Korean sunscreens like Isntree, Beauty of Joseon, and Purito contain niacinamide. Can I use these sunscreens? Does the percentage of niacin in sunscreen cause vitiligo white spots on our face?
    Thank you🙏

I have questions. What was the male/female ratio of the participants? Did these folks experience normal or excessive sweating? Was that antiperspirant test done in Summer, Winter, on a Tropical island with high humidity? I live in the latter and it is, with no A/C, very easy to sweat through your antiperspirant during the night .

I actually find that I smell better and sweat less using a natural deodorant at night 🤷🏽‍♀️ That’s my experience and I found the things that work for me

Doing antiperspirant at night makes total sense to me. I don't like to get into bed dirty and sweaty, which is especially true during the summer so I shower at night. Also, if the reason for using antiperspirant at night is so it gets down into the skin if you shower in the morning, after exercise or whatever, are you really washing it off completely?

No. The aluminum salts get absorbed into your sweat glands while you sleep.

I use the nizoral shampoo for hair loss because as explained to me it can help keep scalp free from things that can clog the pores (ie; dandruff etc). I’ve been using it a couple of months and they also make a conditioner which I use as well. I just got my hair cut short, about 6 to 8 inches because it just looked thin and tired. So starting out with fresh hair and all natural color. It feels very healthy, we’ll see how it goes.

question on shampoos: can you use the Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with 1% Ketoconazole and another shampoo before or after? Or just use the Nizoral and no other shampoo before?

When I use it, it's the only shampoo I use. I make sure my conditioner sits for several minutes afterword as I've heard Nizoral can be drying. My hair has been great! Actually I let the Nizoral sit a few minutes as well. My daughter uses regular shampoo after, but I feel it's not necessary.

Years ago, I heard to only use anti persiperant, not deodorant.. toxicity reasons.
Personally, I'll use it when needed in the summer because of the reduction of smell.
    What is your guys's opinions?

Is it actually ok to use antiperspirant at night, and shower in the morning, I thought that it is still working, because the showering doesn't wash it all out.

My Mum always said you need to wash your pits before you put more antiperspirant on. So if you want to top it up and apply it more than once a day, you need to then wash your pits again. She said it was gross to put more ap on over old ap and stale sweat 😅 Is this right?
