- Dir En Greys remake of Riyuu off their old "Macabre" album.
From disc 2 of their newest album "The Insulated World" and before you all start arguing about the name in my comments, i was unaware that the song is also known as "wake" the way its written on the actual album case as well as according to cdjapan have it as Riyuu so thats what i went with. I mean they both mean "Reason" so i meaaaaannn im just going with what iv'e always known it as

I've never been so in love with a band before.
I just love them infinitely.
You know. I was sceptical about this version when I first hear it because the original was so close to my heart.
But gawddamn.... The more I listen to it the more I love it.
I personally love that they are bringing a lot of their old material back, now we get a chance to see many older songs live.
I saw them live in Munich and they played this one, amazing!

This band surprised me all the time. I couldn't expect that there is another version of 理由 in future. I can find some similarities (or could say mixtures) with MACABRE album's songs as its main theme and the melody in this song shows me the progress of their old days style. Thanks to Dir en Grey makes me feel my 2000 again.
Walking to this song and keeping with the beat is so satisfying.

Back in 2008 I had a Dir en Grey overdose when I first discovered them... Now I started hearing this song as if it was something new as I just opened the related video because of the name of the band. I just didn't remembered the song's name, but then I recognized the song and was like "WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!"

Me encanto, pienso distinto a varios, en esta version se escucha un Kyo melancolico, en la original se escucha con un poco de rabia quizas. Amo a esta maldita banda, llega en el momento justo con su musica!.

It's a good version, but too me the old one is a lot more emotional
Not even speaking in terms of how emotional it sounds, I feel like the older version's instrumentals just matched the song topic and vocals better.
Diru can do anything from start, to finish, and along the way, down the massive gradient ranging from their Visual Kei roots to their intense metal contemporary sound, and it will still sound great. I hope they don't forget to take advantage of that for future albums, and I think they did their history justice in Insulated World.
The bass in the older version is alot stronger. The guitar tuning has changed too but this version is still really good

It was SO GOOD until the chorus came and was overproduced to hell. What happened to the intense emotions? It's not like Kyo can't do it anymore - just watch live performances of this song from last year.

Idk. When they make remakes, I expect them to improve on the original, and they've done that successfully many times. But I don't see it with this. This doesn't add anything for me, the original is still a better song. While there are songs that they remade, staying close to the original that worked, Wake didn't really have any empty space to fill to begin with, and this doesn't move far away enough from the tone or composition of the original to make it special. In fact, it feels emptier. Like instead of improving upon it, they decided to approach it as if they'd written it today. Macabre as a whole, and especially Wake, is very emotionally driven. Kyo's desperation and the guitar solo really spot light that. But this version pulls back both of those things. And in doing that, they really gave up what made Wake a great song. This doesn't feel like a passion project. It feels like someone told them to do this.
I like this though, it's from the era of just straightforward rock for them... like the remake of "Kasumi" on Unraveling... I mean what did you expect them to do with it, it's a perfect song from the Visual Kei period. Not really much they could do to it that wouldn't straight up ruin the feel.
One of the major reasons they do remakes, I feel, is to be relevantly perform these songs live and showing people how they have changed and at the same time evaluating themselves. I mean, kyo is no longer a 20ish person in angst anymore so he can't really bring those emotions in live either. He is matured now, and so has the song.
Shut the hell up lol. It sounds good to me.

I don't like it that much either. Most of it is fine, I guess, but the vocals in the chorus really ruin it for me. Like...compare this to the performance from the Mode of Macabre tour. Kyo gets really into the music and puts so much emotion into it. Here, they completely sterilized him by laying the vocals so much. I don't understand why they thought it was a good idea?

Undecided and Macabre were both better for me. I like both versions of Zan. The Obscure remake is an abomination. Tsumi to Kisei isn't even the same song.
Yeah, the Obscure remake has literally everything missing that made the original so great.

@@crown_clown Exactly. It would be the same if you named your song "Reason" and I called it "Motive" because I decided I want to. The kanji is read Riyuu, but Kyo used it as Wake. He did the same in Tsumi to Batsu. You can check the english version of the official site.
@@igornorado the basic meaning still remains the same, they are just synonyms. People often tend to name the song both ways because of the kanji, there's nothing more to it.
It's read "Wake", not "Riyuu". Also fu for illegally uploading.
