- The owners of a popular pit stop in Lake Cowichan, B.C., are used to people coming in to get snacks and treats, but one recent customer was completely unexpected - a bear.
“This little black bear walked in the door… It’s a first,” Karen deGoesbriand, owner of Tiptons Gas Bar, told Global News.
Her husband Jay was behind the counter, sipping his coffee, and he stood up in shock, "bearing" witness to a robbery in progress.
The curious bruin decided the snack it wanted to take was a bag of 75-cent gummy candy.

Well, he'll probably be shot for that bag of gummies knowing how we do conservation. All in all though what a well adjusted little fella knew how to behave indoors lol. I almost expected him to pay with debit.

@@nataliemcmanus113 We do actually. I live in a community where it has been done in 3 separate instances I can think of off the top of my head. The one was a dangerous bear the other I dunno, the third was in no way a danger to anyone he was treed on a busy road through town and they said it would just have been too dangerous to tranq it, like killing it was less so somehow. Our conservation at least here isn't super focused on relocation.
@@larrymunn5279 oh wow thanks. Where I live they only killed bears that were dangerous or had ate too much human food so they would keep coming back looking for more food. As well we were always told they were relocated, but possibly were told that so we didn’t feel so bad. Once our neighbours had family visiting and they left food sealed in a plastic container. A bear could smell it and totally destroyed their car, very scary. I’ve been close to bears since I was a child and was always taught what to do but they can be very unpredictable.
@@nataliemcmanus113 I live in Port Alberni tons of black bears all throughout here. They come into town at night to raid fruit trees and garbage ect. Usually it gets left alone as long as they maintain a fear of people but there is one bear right now I'm used to seeing at 9 every night he is getting pretty chilled out and I know he's gonna get it. What can ya do. Every bear I've ever come across has just fled in fear their cries break my heart lol.
The one dangerous bear I didn't personally have a run in with but I did see him from my building some people threw a pan at it while it was raiding the garbage. It stopped turned around and just stared. That was chilling. He sauntered off into the creek where a guy I know did encounter it on his way home from work and it was not a happy bear after getting hit by a frying pan. He backed up all the way back out of the creek up the trail and it followed him the whole way.
Because no bag of gummy humans aka sour patch kids??
