Sir you are a wealth of information. Thanks for sharing. Just bought a used 2012 SL550 (still an R230 in Canada) and look forward to seeing all your tips!
Hello, I’ve just got an SL500 2002 in exchange of my VW T5 and the previous owner never said anything about water getting the car. In the 10 days I had it I only managed to drive from Glasgow down to my place in Ayrshire and next time I went out there was a complete electrical malfunction which resulted in the auxiliary water pump to fail and the car to overheat. It’s now parked on my drive on sorn. Any advice on where to start with my fault finding new saga? Cheers 👍🏼
Hi there fellow Glaswegian (although I've been in Glasgow since late 90's only)! Is your cabin dry enough? If so great, start with your boot, look at the area where the sides of the boot separator is for dampness, there is a seal at the base of window that can leak where it separates. Look under rear carpet shelf for water under spare wheel. As per my video remove that rear plug for drainage. Check the connection on the left where the pump is for verdigris 👍. P.s. where in Glasgow are you. I'm doing a video on the exact diagnosis for leaks at the moment. Subscribe and follow, it will notify you when I'm finished
Thank you for your videos knowledge is a great thing. I have an issue currently with my 2006 350sl you guessed water ingress. Boot is dry but passenger seat rear gets wet. Top left boot is wet too. If anybody knows where I get get this issue rectified please let me know. Money is not an issue and they can have the car as long as they need it !
Hi there Nigel, thanks for the kind words, as a small youtuber it means a lot ! I have had the same leak issues as you and may be able to help. For the one in the back passenger side, it was coming from the roof hinged seal at the top of rear window. I did a video on how to adjust a hidden 10mm nut that you normally miss. Adjusting this nut either clockwise or anti-clockwise will tighten or loosen the hinge gap and prevent the water ingress hopefully. As for the rear, this is common, open the roof half way and have a look at the rear window seal at bottom, I removed mine then re-sealed using SikaFlex sealant. You also want to check the rubber boot seal underneath, there may be rust, this allows the water to 'track' up and over the metal lip and into the rear sides of boot. Below is my Mercedes playlist, and roof rattle fix to help. ruclips.net/video/eBr-c80juvQ/видео.html Mercedes SL R230 Roof Rattle Fix Hidden Screws !
