      @@Owlyross and Rob kills it when he plays it. Fingers vs pick makes a huge difference. I loved Jason, his writing was great, he had great stage presence, great back up vocals, and he played really fucking well too, but Rob is STUPIDLY talented on bass and he’s just overall the better bass player. Without dick riding Cliff, not that he doesn’t deserve all the credit in the world, Robb is the cleanest and most tight bassist Metallica has had. Cliff was the best solo player and the best writer, Jason had the best stage presence and was the best backup vocalist and was arguably almost as good of a writer as Cliff. Rob doesn’t stray too much from how the songs are written and he plays them as perfectly as possible, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it holds the song together and gives that CRISP, tight, perfect bass every time

    Most people who don't like Lars are Napster cry babies still living in their mommas basements! Lars is a great drummer. He plays what the song needs every damn time. Lars and James write almost everything. Kirk and Rob just come in and do their parts. Cliff was their original bassist who was killed right at the height of their fame. He wrote a lot of the song you just heard.

    • @gizmobalboa2106
      @gizmobalboa2106 4 года назад +4

      No
      Mostly because he sacrificed bass on and Justice for all just to be a prick to Jason
      Poor guy could never replace their mate Cliff. They never made him welcome & Lars started that (James was a dick to him too)
      But getting the recording engineer to release that album without bass just to make someone feel unwelcome is unprofessional
      That said you're right without Lars there would be no Metallica

    • @martos60
      @martos60 4 года назад

      @@gizmobalboa2106 I love all the guys in Metallica and they've all made mistakes but this bias towards Lars is pathetic. Mostly James was a dick to Jason and he is the reason Jason left the band. Lars always said that the "macho" image of Hetfield in the 80's and 90's was something he didn't get and wasn't a part of it. And Lars asked for the bass on AJFA to be lowered down in order to achieve a certain sound. It wasn't part of the "hazing" of Jason. The EP they released before AJFA has the loudest bass of all the Metallica records and it was Jason's first official recording with Metallica.They didn't have the knowledge to achieve the sound that they later achieved with Bob Rock, so they thought that if the guitar is more scooped and the drums are louder it will sound heavier.

    • @holdtightadele8017
      @holdtightadele8017 3 года назад

      Totally agree with your thought on Lars, when you are in a band of that magnitude your skill level or complexity doesn’t define you as a musician. It’s all about imo what you bring to the band and Lars brings good writing, hard drum beats and a personality.
      And let’s not forget without Mr Ulrich Metallica wouldn’t exist today.

    • @alexanderhayward8505

      I would also interject that the ego Lars showed in their weird recorded therapy sessions turned people off of him. He's kind of a cringe character. I personally like him just fine, but that in addition to the Napster/AJFA thing annoyed several different types of fan.

    Lars is an amazing drummer...he created the heaviest metal band ever!!! That hate comes from him telling other drummers he never practices anymore...it’s becoming very evident as they continue to play live. He struggles with the timing and can’t play his old songs very well. They had to have a die hard fan come to their practice room at a concert to show Lars how to play his own song. I’m not finding that video anymore though. Now, as a drummer myself, I still respect the man! Trying to recall how to play a song from the first three albums that he hasn’t played in years...I give him a pass; but he should be running through songs occasionally just to stay fresh.

    If you don't like Lars...you don't like Ringo...
    I see them both as people that did what was needed to make the song sound as it needed to be...and sometimes that's harder than just filling that same song with drum fills and try to stand out when the song is trying to say something more than those same drum fills.
    Let's not forget that Lars is one of the best composers alive alongside James.
    They've been the best metal composers for some 30+ years now, and we will only give them the true credit they deserve once we don't have it no more.
    It's a great time to be alive during these legends's legacies and our kids won't probably have the same privilege as we do.
    So let's hail them while they can see it...

    If you truly want to know why Lars is always called a bad drummer, there is a pretty great video by the user Lightning Bolt called "Lars Ulrich Drumming Fails Compilation 2019". It's not a hate video, as the uploader is too a Metallica fan and it's done mainly as a light jab at the guy. But in general, it's just some examples for why he's referred to like this.
    As for Cliff Burton, he was the original bass guitarist for Metallica (to be signed) and is often seen as one of the greatest bass guitarists in history. People often compare his playing to that of a lead guitar which is incredibly difficult given that the strings are thicker and harder to press and bend. he does it effortlessly and it's incredible! Check out Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) Live Chicago 1983 to see him in action. Also check out the original recording of Orion from the Master Of Puppets album. That was his magnum opus he composed himself. To go one further, check out the Bass Boosted version on RUclips by the user XRacer35 so you can hear him clear and crisp. They never played this song live with Cliff, as he unfortunately passed away in a tour bus accident shortly after the album was released.
    One night, when the band were travelling in Denmark on tour, their crappy tour bus started skidding on what the bus driver claimed was black ice, and all of a sudden, the bus started spinning sideways on the road until finally landing on one side. They were all getting out, confused and screaming, but Cliff's voice wasn't heard. Kirk turned around and noticed two feet poking out from under the bus. Cliff had been thrown out the window by the bus and it landed right on top of him, killing him instantly.
    This proved to be the saddest day in Metal history as news of his death, while initially not exposed too much by newspapers, still somehow reached the entire Metal scene. Everyone was heartbroken over his loss and several notable bands who had known Metallica and Cliff dedicated songs to him. I wasn't alive to hear this first hand, but when I heard this story, it hit me hard because I'm a bassist myself and a big fan of Metallica. He was an inspiration and to hear how he died is just chilling.

    People don’t like Lars because he’s opinionated and outspoken and plays in the the most successful heavy metal band of all time. He’s no Neil Peart but he’s a solid drummer who’s been doing his thing for 30 plus years. There’s haters out there but you gotta give credit and respect where it’s due. I love Metallica because they have great music and Lars is apart

    People do not like Lars for 2 reasons. One, as he has gotten older, his drumming/ tempo is off sometimes live. However, that happens to all of us. At 38 I cannot do a lot of things I could do in my 20's. The man is playing metal at 56 years old for Gods' sake. 1981-1995, Lars drumming was on point at all times. I would even say his 80's drumming pressed the envelope and started a lot of trends we still hear today in metal. Anyone who says otherwise is just a hater. The big one when it comes to people not liking Lars is what happened with Napster. He was the most vocal person against Napster and also filed lawsuits against Napster for downloading for free/streaming. However, when downloading/streaming started artists were not getting paid for their work like they do now. Even now they still don't get paid very well for streaming, so I can understand wanting to get paid for your work. Artists were also getting mad that material was being uploaded that was not done yet or that they never wanted released. Bottom line, Metallica is a top 5 band all time and Lars is a huge part of the great music they have given us.

      The crux of Metallica getting pissed off with Napster wasn't the money issues to begin with... they didn't really care until someone "stole" a CD with half-done demo tracks they were in the middle of writing and put it up online.

      @@mfree80286 Yes, that was part of their beef too and I don't blame them. I would have been pissed too.

      Lol Napster and streaming? Now that was downloading for free. And people got their hands on a half finished “I Disappear”. That was back when the internet was a baby and it took an hour to download a song. It had never been done before. Artists said wtf, how are these people getting our music. So yeah it pissed A LOT of artists off. Once the internet evolved a little more artists started using it as a tool. Hell on Metallica’s last album there was a music video for everyone song, and they released the music videos on RUclips before the album even came out.
