This shows why baseball is the ultimate individual and the ultimate team sport. German will go down in history and deserves it, but the Yankees defense made a number of outstanding plays in the game as well. And as the game went on, their focus intensified. 4 players ran out for that pop up to center. They started catching everything with two hands, pausing to make sure of their throws. They all wanted this for their teammate. This is why I love baseball so much.

There were two pop-ups into CF which Bader did a great job of asserting himself on. These past few years, it seems that so many pop-ups fall in because of infielders running into the outfield, and outfielders in turn having to pull up to avoid a collision. Germán's curve looked great. No one could square it up!

I would like to congratulate the NYY for a perfect game. I believe that every member of the team should receive a 'perfect game' pin. While Domingo was, indeed, perfect, it also took the back catcher to not fumble or lose any of those strike pitches, as well as every outfielder being on point and not fumbling, tripping, or messing up a throw to first base. Fantastic foot work at 1st, BTW. That one throw was a reach-for but foot remained on the bag. Again, it takes a team to accomplish this feat. So congrats to ALL who were a part of it. It's impossible to explain to a non-baseball fan what a perfect game is. Because it doesn't sound hard. You just don't allow any hits, or walks, and no errors. How hard could that be? 154 years of baseball history, and it's only been done 24 times. But it honestly doesn't SOUND hard.
I threw a perfect game as CC Sabathia in a 2014 baseball video game, and there was no special commentary for it, and certainly no special animation, because I think they didn't think it was possible, or it was rare enough that there was no reason to animate/have announcers react to it.
I also love that you don't have to explain to the A's fans who showed up and who stayed what this is. And after a point, even as an A's fan, you realize the game is lost, and you start to root for the perfect game, because then you can say that you were there, you saw a perfect game.
