I have a few memories of watching kids play marbles in the early 70’s at recess… i never had any marbles other than a few cats eyes that came inside the game Kerplunk’
I remember in Elementry school we would dig a hole make a circle around it put marbles in the hole and try to knock them out of the hole and hopefully they would make it out the outer circle you won that marble. The bigger ones were the bomb the more you had the bigger you were, then metal bearings came in. Such good memories.
Seems like having Steelies would have caused controversy and consternation. I assume a lot of glass marbles got destroyed by an energetic ball bearing slamming into them!? 😩👍
Believe it not the glass marbles were a lot tougher than you think. I seen a few break and only because it was the bigger bearings that hit it. Mostly when it was in the hole from the weight. We use to pick up a bag for pennies at the winns store that was over 40 years ago.
Pennies was all I had as a kid! 😬 I still can’t believe they want $1.79 for a snickers bar these days, at the checkout line! I remember when they went from 19 cents to 25 cents! 🤣😇 I think milk was 45cents a gallon back then, and they still sold Kaboom cereal and Freakies cereal!
