Yeeees a mimic! A devour mechanic would be great to have on it, eating/immobilizing a player for a short amount of time and healing for a %. Mimics are love, mimics are life!

In the world of Verra, this is called a Hoarder. Sometimes the treasure chests found during adventuring are too good to be true 😈
probably been said before but i think the bright neon colors combined with the high contrast looks a bit off during combat.
it feels like a lightshow and makes it difficult to see what is going on (i know there is a setting that makes it so you can reduce the opacity but that will lead to players just turning down all effects to gain a slight advantage)

"When new quests unlock they change the enviroment and monsters in that region" - This is so simple and yet will make it so that zones will be fun to return to because they might be entirely different depending on the state of the world. Awesome update!
💯%! In addition, it's not just about completing quests, but HOW you complete them can matter to how things unfold on your server.
Most aspects of this game y'all have shown off are looking great, but your environmental team is setting an incredibly high bar for everything else. Just stunning visuals. I've read and listened to MMO designers waxing poetic about very similar questing systems that you're attempting here, and I am really starting to get my hopes up. That magic is captured so rarely and spontaneously by most other MMOs, and it's pouring out of every corner here.

What we share during livestreams is a work in progress, and we've still improving things like character armor appearance, animations, etc.

Looks great! I love the new great sword idle animation. Its way better and cooler looking than the old one. Please, more idle animation options like that. It really brings a lot of personality to the characters.
Glad you like it! During the Twitch stream, "is that sword idle new" was such a common question, we took a time to talk more about it, after the pre-recorded part of the livestream.

It's all coming together great! Many people mentioned vfx during combat and I agree, I feel like getting mini-flashbanged every few seconds, this aspect has been brought up countless times though, I'm sure Intrepid is very much aware of that and it's something that's going to be worked out in the future.
Ashes of Creation will have highly scalable options for users to adjust rendering and particle effects.
We believe that having the options to turn things like this up, down, or off will be something that helps more players enjoy the game in the way that they want to.

I wouldn't go that far...plenty of MMOs last not be evolution, but by playing it safe, unfortunately, taking risks don't pay off like you'd think it would. However, I feel like AoC will succeed, but it really depends on the launch and the playerbase(which is already pretty big).

action so far is AoC's Achilles heel. I think it's success has a high dependency on combat creativity, impact and polish
Yeah so far single combat looks alright, but the moment groups form everything goes out the window and it looks like a button mashing contest. Maybe they should go more souls like direction with slower more deliberate swings but also dodge and parry mechanics? I am honestly at a loss, I have no idea what they should do or even if we really have a problem, it might look kinda meh but maybe it feels amazing.
Best part of these games is taking your time and enjoying the lore and the gameplay. But this game looks absolutely amazing. I have more anticipation for this then I do for star citizen!
Been following since dec 2016 and im so happy to see you guys still going at it and the sheer progress being achieved.
Where is the best place to ask this question. Steven will you add momentum to the movement of the Player Character. Shifting from left to right, stopping from running shouldn't be instant like it is. Dunno its just worrying that its not integrated yet.
A game with all the helpings and proper Dwarf models! Loving what you all are doing with the game, and I can't wait to see this come to fruition! Great job and loving this, keep it up!

It breathes life into the world when environments update like this according to node progress or other factors. Very cool to see storylines and lore played out this way!
I hope that there will be UI options to move party frames and that targets can have their health, energy and buffs/debuffs shown floating above the model as well as the target bar at the top.
Our goal is to have a deeply customizable UI, so players can create the UI layout that works best for them and their playstyle.

Environment looks great. The lore is nice to hear and pleasurable. Visuals and sound effects look amazing. My only criticism continues to be that combat looks to be no real challenge.
Name plates should be centered above the players heads from when they are in their standing pose.. it looks so off-center and off

Wow. Wow. Wow. I usually hate eerie areas in games. But this area is eerily breathtaking. So well done. Excited for the story system!!!
Gorgeous area. The amount of work that went into that looks like its comparable to the effort other MMO's put into a raid instance. Really impressed with it. On that same note - I really wish I could see places like in a short video or something BEFORE they went all to poop. Like imagine a small Lore book that gives you glances around as you cross the bridge, thats still intact. Then, as you come up to the door - the huge chains pull them out for a huge entrance into the building. Etc. Regardless, gives the player a lot of interesting theories about the lore and mystery.

I love that these phases can be redone. Because like they said if you are on vacation and stuff. You want to come back and still do it. It's a great way for slower players or guilds to accomplish things and people who join the game late. They can experience the lore for themselves at certain intervals. Also gives way to redo loot. Or your main city you focus on is clear across the map and you never get to experience this tower because you are doing your lore on the other side of the map. It would be good for lore junkies to come travel the world and do all sorts of lore at their own pace. It's like reading a choose your own adventure and you get to all the lore in any order you choose. Beautiful design mechanic. Keep it up.

Hit feel is one of the most important things in combat. If you even can make it like half of elden ring that aspect this game can be greatest of all time.

Thanks Raz! We love sharing our lore, but we want to be very intentional about what we share so we don't spoil too much of the story for players before they get in game.

Unrelated but, I know you guys have been on the fence about whether to add stamina or not and I believe I have thought of a unique way to have stamina in the game. Instead of stamina as in almost all games nowadays being a short-term limiting factor what about it being a Long-term limiting factor? for example, instead of your stamina bar going down multiple times per fight what about it being slowly taken down over hours in the field. You can make it so that stamina recovers using a rest animation for long periods of time as a stop-gap method in the field but it will be barely effective unless one sits for a hour or two resting. The main method of recovering stamina can be going to nodes and renting inn rooms where stamina regen is really fast as instead of resting for 2 hours somewhere to recover your stamina bar you can rest for 15 minutes in a inn room. You can also use the environment to limit player adventurer time. Under most circumstances it would say take the player stamina bar 12 hours to go down to near-empty. but in a story/event area the stamina drain is much more taking only 8 or so hours for the entire bar to go down. This can be a excellent limiting factor on player grinding as instead of a guild or group monopolizing an entire area an entire day they at some point must go home to a node to recover, where another group can enter the area. There can also be items that increase the recovery rate of stamina but I feel as though items that directly replenish stamina should not exist or if they do are high-end potions crafted by masters or something..
So glad MMOs are making a comeback. This is probably the game I'm most hyped for with the Riot MMO right behind it.

Not sure if you guys have thought of this or already implemented it but I am so excited for this game, could you please include options to make black characters? Specifically enough skintones and especially curly hairstyles. I will see locks corn rows or an afro sometimes but I never see any good curls. Not beach waves, like thick fluffy spiral 3c curls.

please make it so that you can change the position of the sword, for example (when you hold a large sword with two hands or put it on your shoulder)
Loved the video and demonstration intrepid team! It looks absolutely amazing and i cannot wait to see more and to actually play the game and experience this for myself in alpha 2! I really liked the new idle stance we saw with the great sword, i noticed it right away and was something i was hoping for eventually and wasn't expecting it so soon!
The systems for these quest are super unique and not something i've personally seen or played before in the mmos I've played and think they're well cool and something that should become the new standard for mmorpgs!
We're proud of the direction our quest / Story Arc System is taking! The world feels more alive and immersive when the actions players take actually make an impact on the game world.
the UI looks really nice and simple i love it. i also like how the mini map blends in near the edges.
We believe a good UI gets you the info you need, without being in your way. Glad you like where we're currently at with it!
Will player level or some mixture of factors add a weight to how much an individual can influence story arcs in the world? I'm considering how people and guilds/organizations will try to manipulate arcs to their interest, such as by repeatedly making low level characters and running specific actions to bend an arc to a desired outcome.
This could have negative effects, if it's easily manipulated, but it could have dramatic positive effects if it's intertwined deeply with world politics, organizations and to some extent individual player power and title in the game universe.
I read and hear people say: AOC will never happen. Maybe they want an unfinished trash game, like so many games that come out these days. But after each video, I am getting more and more hope up for it to become an amazing game! Keep up the good work, guys, can't wait to play!

I know its too early to speak about combat, but everything I write ,I am doing it because of my love for this game and how badly I would like this game to succeed! So not a wow fun boy here or someone who needs to produce some negativity for the game! I love the world and the innovations that the team tries to introduce to the game!!! So with that being said, ...Combat should have some love indeed. Physics feel awful without impact ,numbers as its right now, are immersion breaking at least... , and the motion capture feels like a game being developed during the 2000 s... Its to bad such an amazing game to have a medium core combat .. People tends to play shitty games just for a good combat such as BDO etc .... Personally I would love to see An Age of Conan mmorpg (combat wise) brutality in Ashes Of Creation ,with executions and blood everywhere, as long as it is going to be adjusted in 2023 animations and impact standars. Please Steven, you created a whole world and a dream game so far...! Create an amazing combat as well , and we are going to receive a masterpiece!!! Please create a masterpiece! Looks great. The one thing I'm hoping for is the next level of mods fighting animations. Not the same old tank and spake. It's my to make for MMO. But it's looking good all.
Sooo excited to play this game! Just keep taking as long as it takes. Can see so many elements that oozes passion from clear fantasy fans..I mostly just switch off my screen and listen to these videos now, as I love having updates but trying to avoid seeing spoilers of the world 😂 dunno why I do this to myself 😂. Even if you watch every stream, there will be PLENTY to explore in Ashes of Creation, once the time comes.
This is great! I just hope the weapon + spell effects get tuned down a little. Combat is sooo busy with all the bright glowing effects.

@@marzoval9551 an option would be great. Trying it out in PvP and the flashing and bright effects are just a bit too distracting. Yes, it looks impressive but also distracting.
@@marzoval9551 True. Also it only seems as if effects are too much because you're not playing yourself. Like with many other games (let's say lol) if you haven't played it before, you're going to be confused and to think "too much effects I have no idea what's happening". When you play yourself, you understand it just fine.

@@Lotrick Ive been in since Alpha 1 and visually the effects have been my only complaint tbh. The game feels incredibly fluid but combat with many players around gets hard to track even when youve played for a while.

Cannot wait this game, good job ! If I may be allowed a criticism, Im not fan of the movements during fights. It's Fast and Jerky like Bless Online.... I hope the devs will add a few frames per second to smooth the movements.

Is there a plan to make name tags a bit more read-able, so they stand out more? They seem a bit rough to read at a glance, strains the eyes.
Every aspect of the UI will be fully customizable. They want to have the most customizable UI in the entire MMO genre.
Something like name tag sizing is 100% something you can change.
@@Synkronist Already bought beta access, so it's not like I'm that worried - But yeah, I know they are making it very customizable with the intent of not needing mods etc.

My honest opinion is as follows
The world looks incredible, the detail and atmosphere ive seen with everything being important, significant and having lore tied behind it is absolutely amazing, sick of so many games copy pasting enviroments instead of real details, 10/10!
The combat glow and effects however do not match the beauty of the game, At times it looks like a flash of rainbow colors, its way too pretty looking in a very non pretty way,
I really hope you tone down the combat animations, make them more realistic looking, or just remove most of them completely, Anyways, Extremely Impressed!
I love how the changes in the enviroment are visualized in this preview it is definitly the right direction. It would be even better if we could see from where the change is happening so for example if we see the red mist at the carphin tower appearing it should change the tower first and spread into the area around it later kinda like water that flows out of a fountain.
New idle animations are good as well please more of them :D
It looks like the tank struggles with the treat because he couldn't get the attention of the enemies especially from the hoarder. Maybe you could give the tank a treat combo for single target and aoe so if he performs two specific skill in the correct order it generates a even higher amount of treat. The dps could have a treatmitigation combo that (if the class works with a build and spent mechanic it could be in the skills that build some class ressource) helps with the treat management of the group.

Regarding aggro/threat management, note that we haven't done a balance pass on many of these things yet. What threat you see players generating in this video aren't the final values.
I'm finding it hard to stay excited about this game while the gameplay looks like it does around combat, the effects need a serious re-work so players can see whats going on - and it needs to be smoothed out quite a bit! I know its alpha but I think this should be a main focus before moving on
will the game have some sort of combo field effects similar to gw2? for example shooting an arrow through a player generated "fire field"-skill turns the arrow into a flaming one that does physical damage and then dot fire (elemental/magic) damage? anything like this maybe?

Game would look so much better with some parallax occlusion mapping, I get lighting and ao etc won't be polished for awhile so it looks a bit dead but stuff like those red corruption veins, structures, terrain, even armors if they worked with it in mind would be crazy without performance loss

I am actually so happy to see continuous updates for this game! The hype is definitely justified; however, I really REALLY despise the UI and thus hope it's gonna be changed to be more appealing and aesthetically pleasing, but apart from that very nice job I love it!
If you have specific feedback about where our UI is at currently, our forums are the best place to share that. Otherwise, hopefully making this super customizable lets you do what YOU want to do with your in-game UI.
personally I don't like the flashiness from all attacks, it'll be hard to enjoy a fight and know what your opponent does if it all flashes here and there
We learned blood magic comes with a cost and caused what we see at the tower of Carphin. I’m curious if players will have access to powerful blood magic at a cost or corruption to the character.

In the video, it was stated that every time blood magic is used, you get a percentage of corruption. as the value, that might need tweaking to the risk/reward balance
I would love to know how far off we are from seeing Bard in action, I know it's a long shot but can we get a little hint?
We haven't shared any ETA for when we'll feature the Bard archetype on a future Development Update Livestream. Mage is the next archetype we have planned to share. 🧙♂

Will mobs always be at the player's mercy for encounter mechanics? (players go find mobs in specific areas and kill them) Or will there be a dynamic aspect to PVE where mobs can roam the world/catch players off guard and players will be at the mercy of Vera's wrath when things "go wrong"?
Verra is a dynamic world.
Based on the actions players take in the Story Arc and Node systems, that can change PvE mob behavior. Also, the Event System can create some more dynamic PvE situations where players may be caught off guard by what happens in Verra when things "go wrong." 😈

Are there plans to update how the enemies you attack react when you hit them? Right now everything looks like a statue and don't seem to even realize you are attacking them
If you look closely, it looks like the trip animation wasn't working when the got the trip debuff. That's why the enemies look like they weren't reacting to being hit.

Environment Feedback:
The mood setting and assets look good
• Lighting:
o Area needs major lighting and color correction. Current choices are hard on the eyes and take away for all the detailed assets.
o The contrast between the purplish shadows of the trees and ground against the red was very hard on the eyes.
The rose covered glasses effect that turned a lot of what you were looking at into a valinines red and purple.
Need to work on the lighting pass.
o The nighttime lighting needs to be 12-20% darker to really sell the creepiness and danger of the area.
I always think of Diablo and how they stage the play area environments like this. They always nail that dark creepy vibe.
o Personally, what I would do is take a few screen shots comparing different lighting a color pallet passes from the same location and then have the community vote on what they like. That way you can get on target faster.
• The actual textures and detail in the statues and wall coverings were great.
• I liked the blood that was bleeding down the wall murals it was a great scarry movie effect that was added and it sold it.
• Light coming through the stained glass was nice.
• The ash particles in the air were nice and not too overwhelming.
• The blood fountains were good.
• The pulsing veins that grow up walls and across the bridge were great but need color correction.
• I would add some more assets stage the rooms.
• Diablo IV has done a great job of making their locations feel and look different.
Story Arc:
• I really like how the chapters impact the environment and what the end outcome is based on completions.
• I like the fact that you can come back and complete these stories at some other time so you will never truly miss the content.
• I like the fact that choices made by the server impact the outcome and results so each server may be a bit different.
• You also mention that rare or certain gatherables would only be available during these types of events which are epic because it makes people want to come back and play through the area to get those gatherables to make cool stuff with.
• Replay ability and reason for people to venture into the area is key.
• So far it is looking great just a few more passes on lighting and color choices, darken up night time 12-20% then toss is more prop-assets and you nailed it.

In the ranger combat showcase, the tower was glowing more and had 3 spires. Is that because environments will continually change as story arcs progress? Or was it just a design change for the tower? Thanks! This area looks sick
Our environments in-game will change on a server, based on what actions players take.
What was seen in the distance of the September 2022 Development Update was the wreckage of the larger Carphin university area. Yes, the Tower of Carphin can be seen in the distance, but there's more to be explored in this massive POI 😎

I think you can't even imagine how bad we need this game. We are with you, and will be for a long long time if keep up the hard work.
I'm one of those which wait the final version before playing, My mind want me to say " take your time " and my heart " Release it now please it's torture.", but one thing's for sure : you have my support eternal.
We know we need to take our time to get things right for _Ashes of Creation_ ... but as gamers we TOTALLY get wanting to play right now. 😅
I have worries about how that quest system works. We know day one you'll have ppl rushing to max level. They don't care about the questing and how it might affect the server. What's to stop those large guilds that already plan to max from day one from just messing up future server events cause they just rushing to max and not really paying attention to the quests
I love all the systems, the gameplay, the vision. I'm sure i'll have a lot of fun playing this. Watching pax dei, i cannot help but think you should improve asap your global lighting to make the contrast smoother, because it will change the way textures looks and artists will may have to adjust them, so you'll save a lot of time doing it early. The harsh ground geometries need either to be covered by folliages or be more complexe. And the edges of elements placed on the ground need to be smoother, they pop up too much and it feels bad. With this few improvement, it will surely be a 10/10 for me.

The spell and weapon effects are still too flashy and bright. Does the tower close up if the next day the node that opened it no longer qualifies the requirement?
