We do! You can only hold the balls for 10 seconds or else you have to roll it to the other side. It makes the plays faster instead of other leagues where you are holding the ball the whole time, boring!

In some leagues they don't allow head shots, so people would purposely kneel in the corner and throw their head in the way of the ball just so they won't be out. It's more dangerous not allowing head shots. In our league, head shots are frowned upon and if there is a repeat offender they get kicked out of the game. But they still count as an out.

At my school, we take dodgeball very seriously. It is so competitive. We even had a tourney at our school. My team won ( I was the captain). I'm the fastest in the school being clocked at a max throw speed at 64 mph. Im in 8th grade.

@4:00, it didn't look like she won. If you look carefully, the guy dodged the first one, then he fell, and the second ball the girl had, it didn't hit the guy when he was down on the ground. If it did, then it would've bounced off his back.

adidasoccer1111 when a ball is picked up, there is a 10 second count on it. You have to throw the ball at an opponent by the time 10 seconds is up or else it’s a dead ball and you have to roll it to the other side. The 10sec count makes the game faster and forces plays. The game suddenly ended at 3:10 because when there’s one person left on each side, they have 10 seconds to kill each other. If no one dies by the time 10secs is up, it becomes a showdown. During a showdown each player gets two balls and two balls are placed in the middle and the middle line disappears and players can cross the middle line to kill each other. i remember in 4th grade we played dodge ball but with been bags because our gym teacher didnt want no injuries.. i ws planning on doing this move and so i got a been bag ran towards the left slid on the floor with my head cocked back dodged the been bag that was gonna hit my head and hitting his left leg getting him out... the most craziest luck ever
or in 6th grade where i whas playing this game where u had to make the ball in the basket (basketball) to be safe.. last one whas out. it whas me versus my friend cuz i sucked at shooting.. i was at the left side out of bound a bit he pushed me hard but at the same time i hooked shot the ball it hit the rim bounced really high up and bounced again and then whent straight through.. everyone remembered that for a good half the year 😂 than i whas known more for getting into this fight with this much taller kid than me (he thought i ws gonna be scared of him) he slammed my chair tht i ws sitting on to the floor but i just barley got up and i jumped.. yes i had to jump
. and tried to hit his face but instead hit his neck and he was sent to the nurse and then home to rest because he almost past out from barley getting enough oxygen into his system. 😆 after that year i lost all my fame nd most of my good friends left the school my grades went down and yea.. school is the worst lol good thing im already going to start 11th grade where im hoping to excel in my classes

Once a ball is picked up, it has a 10 second countdown. The ball has to be thrown to the other side by the time 10 seconds is up or else it's deemed a dead ball and must be rolled over to the opponents side. It forces action and faster play as compared to other leagues where people are just holding the ball for most of the game.
If u get hit, u are out. If u catch a ball, U kill that person who threw the ball and plus u revive one of your teammates. U cannot step over the centre line or sidelines. Balls have a 10 second count, which means you must throw the ball before the 10 seconds is up or else you have to roll it over to the other side. if there is one person left on each team, they have 10 secs to hit each other out or else they have a showdown. in a showdown u can go over the middle line. check out the VDL website

@UWOStud in a showdown there is no middle line and players are given two balls each to hit each other out. In this case, the first balls thrown hit each other and the guy lost balance and fell. The girl ended up hitting him by the tip of his costume (the spikes of the dinosaur costume) and therefore she ended up winning it for her team.
This cleared it up for me. You can actually see the one spike on the costume get pushed over as the ball hits it. Amazing game. :)

@lmonkey1996 it's the 5th game of a best of 5 match in the finals. One person is left on t-Rex's team and he makes a double catch to bring 2 people back into the game. Then the girl from Woot Woot ends up catching a ball and killing the other girl in t-Rex only to end in a showdown for all the marbles. Can't get much better than that!

That makes no sense because in the art of dodgeball there has to be a middle line, but in this case there isn't one.if you look closely at the end of the video with the boy and girl, the ball just misses the boys jersey ( didn't touch the spike on dino costume) the girl at the end did not get the win so the game should've kept going! derpederp!
The double catch was amazing. But what I dont get, is why would you want the girl to be one of the 2 back in on that play? she just gets out again really quick. It seems to me if its the last match, you would want your strongest players in the game. Which she obviously wasnt one of.
The rule is you have to line up in order from when you got hit out, so if you get caught back in, you have to come back in order. First out, first in. Yes it would be awesome to bring back the guy first but then it wouldn't be fair.

deborahsy So at 3:04 , it looks like its down to 1 vs 1 , and both players have ball. They countdown, then everyone cheers and there is a pause in the game, why is that? Why did they stop after the countdown?
So when its 1 vs 1 they count a final 10 seconds and if no one gets out it becomes a showdown. In a showdown, each player gets two balls, and two balls are placed on the middle line. The middle line is non existent and the players can cross line to kill each other. In this case, the girl hit the dinosaur spike of the guys costume (which unfortunately couldn't be caught on camera) and he was called out.

I played Vancouver dodgeball while I was there and it wasn't very fun. Do you really need that many people counting time? Foam balls? 2/10 would not play again
Did you play in the Vancouver Dodgeball League? I find that the VDL has really refined their rules which makes a very fast paced game. There are 6 balls in play and four refs counting down the balls. And yes we do play with foam balls so it doesn't hurt as much when getting hit by the ball as opposed to rubber balls.

Why are they counting down?
Once a ball is picked up, it has a 10 second count. Once the count goes to zero it's a dead ball and must be rolled over to the other side. That way a player cannot be holding the ball forever and it forces plays and makes the game much quicker. If you watch other leagues, they do not have this rule and you basically watch a game of people just holding balls

deborahsy In the UK we play it much differently. We have 3 balls and 5 seconds is applied to the team with the majority players and/or majority balls. Once the 5 seconds are up, those still in possession of a ball in that team are out.
