  • Cardiff Castle has watched over 2000 years of history unfold, witnessing battles, sieges and executions. The Romans built a fort here then the Normans erected a castle and town walls before Welsh hero Owain Glyndwr razed it all to the ground in the fifteenth century. The export of iron and coal from Cardiff in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries brought great wealth and the Castle in particular was richly decorated in Gothic Revival style and has been described as 'extraordinary and incomparable'.

Looking back on Cardiffs Castle history, I would have loved to see when Castle/Duke street, around late 1800' had businesses and buildings as good as attached to the Castle. In my eyes, it says that it was not always portrayed as a maginifent place but just another Cardiff building.

Is this where they had it as a grammar school for kids in the 1950s?

Wow, I wasn't expecting the heavy Islamic influence on the interior decorations of the castle. So beautiful. Can't wait to go see this!

Now that Cardiff is host to the Welsh parliament and is the recognised capital of Wales, I think Cardiff castle should be where the next Prince of Wales should be crowned, rather than Caernarfon.
