Love your insights! 💕 Also, Singapore is one of the countries most safe from natural disasters. I live in the country just next door, in the Philippines which is an Armageddon hotbed; typhoons, earthquakes, flooding, you name it. I wish to live in Singapore one day and be free from worrying about my life and way of life getting destroyed every year for good. 👍

Glad both of you enjoy living in Singapore. Singapore is most certainly enriched by every person who respectfully shares their own rich culture and experiences with us. No country is perfect but we try. 10:08 You’re definitely correct. Cost of alcohol is expensive here. Except for friends or social sake, I try to buy back from overseas, or hunt for bargains, or head to local coffee-shops for beers, or organise private parties. Again, as you’ve rightly pointed out, unfortunately for various reasons, the following are eXpensive in Singapore: cars, private housing, alcohol, international entertainment, and some tourist attractions. As a local born Singaporean, I think Singapore is most suited for one who is looking for a country that is built and driven by pragmatism while providing you enough space to live and carve out your own philosophical and or ideological existence albeit within her legal boundaries, and while respecting others.
Beautifully said Crosby. We (Josh & Kalie) feel the same way. Singapore is awesome and for the pragmatics around. We hear certain types of people having a moan about Singapore and we especially hear outsiders who have never been there speak badly about Singapore, but we love it! Thanks for the comment. Nice vid, altho I would like a more insightful one in the living aspects (rents, groceries, low profile weekend entertainment, moving around). But maybe this wasn't your goal so eh :) I might be moving as a family of 3 (2+ 1 infant) to Singapore soon. What would you say is a good salary (either in SGD or $) to get a relaxed livelihood in there? No luxury but also no shared house and nothing overly frugal
Thanks, Andrea. We knew singles living on $2,000 but feel like a family of 3 might want $5,000 minimum. Housing is the wild card. Utilities are reasonable. Eating local food out is very low and grocery are reasonable as well assuming you're not just buying expensive Western foods.

Lisbon will be my new upcoming home and maybe I’ll get to say hello to you guys in Porto. I’ll be moving after the lockdown, hopefully it won’t be extended. Stay safe!
It's pretty wild. A lot of Singaporeans do not recommend doing this but it seems like a tissue packet or old umbrella does the trick and is safer to leave than a wallet or phone.
Just because "They're used to it" (sic) does not mean that they like it. People prefer the company and society of people like themselves. You can learn the language, or all of them, convert to Buddhism, marry an Singaporean and you will still and always shall be, an farang. As well, standards in Singapore have apparently declined, precipitously, if they allowed you to live there. 20 years ago, you wouldn't even have been allowed to leave the airport.
Mix/ Mixed Rice ?!??!? (Or wotsr, Mix Vegetable Rice ! 🤣) Okaay, it is a Bad local Translation from the original Chinese phrase 杂菜饭ZaCaiFan, meaning: "RICE With Portions of Assorted Dishes, to each customer's preference of choices, meat, vegetables and mixed veg + meat combo.....etc Well, "Rice with various Dishes" could be a Mouthful, so, perhaps the inaccurate "Mix Rice" DOES SERVE A CONVENIENT PURPOSE , Despite being Misleading JIAK / CHEW / MAKAN !! 🤤

Public healthcare is alot cheaper but mainly for citizens. Private healthcare options are many but many Singaporeans will buy their own insurance to cover all chronic illness/life insurance. Make sure the company u r working for cover insurance.
Is it feasible to live in Johor Bahru (Malaysia) and commute to work across the border every day? (at least temporarily while I hunt for affordable housing in Singapore)
Yes, a lot of people do it. We would highly recommending getting the customs card that allows quicker entry into Singapore for those from the Malaysia side that work in SG regularly. Please know that right now due to the pandemic, things are operating differently.
@@ExpatsEverywhere great, thanks for the info. I’ve heard that it’s much cheaper to live in Malaysia and commute to work across the border, though I’m not sure if I would want to do it long term 🙂
@@sean2015 You're welcome. It is but personally, we wouldn't want to do it long term either. It seems like a lot of time will be spent in commute or simply stuck in traffic.
@@sean2015 if you’ve got the cash to live in Singapore, just do it since that’s where you’re going to work plus with CoVid, you won’t have to worry as much as how both countries are handling it. Getting from the city center across the boarder can take 45 minutes to an hour by public transportation and that’s without traffic or border delays.
Salaries for expats tend to be very good, but it's also very competitive and people don't tend to get their start in Singapore if you know what we mean.
Dude, as a single you'll probably need a minimum of $2,000/month USD if you want to live alone assuming that your company pays for your health insurance and not your housing. If you're a couple making the same assumptions above and living in the same place that the single person would, $2,500/month USD. You'll probably need to added between $500-1,000 for each additional bedroom and person that fills that bedroom (kid) to cover food and housing and that does not included education fees. Does that help, Eric? - Josh & Kalie
Lovely vid! :) But but... please don't leave your wallets/ handbags or money around the tables when buying food. Though it's a safe country, it's not 100%. Low crime doesn't mean no crime. That is how the police warns the public. Just a safety precaution!
Reserving seats. Don't ever do that. Even as a Singaporean, that is a bad habit that we need to stop doing. One, it reflects one's social etiquette. Two, there bound to be some unscrupulous characters that throw your things away and claim that seat for themselves. So don't learn that bad manners. Instead, have a friend stay on that place and politely say that it's for you.
Drink at home will be cheapest, hahaha. Expensive because the govt tries to discourage drinking and smoking, cars to jam up roads and limited land space for development. No choice.
Aww, that doesn’t sound too great. Singapore is a great place. Let us know if there’s anyway we can support your move there. We’ll try. What school are you going to?
A 5 year old. Come on, at least a 15 year old. Truth be told, there are two reasons 1. covid led to no haircuts and 2. there are a decent amount of 30 and 40 year old that wear caps because it was that generation that wore caps like that in the US. Have a good one, Lukas. - Josh

It's definitely harder to assimilate into the local cultures, way of life (for Tokyo and Seoul) but surely a worthy experience. One of my friends from 5th grade moved to Seoul a while ago. I'd love to visit and meet him.
Brilliant!
You are right. One can't do much if you have irresponsible, inconsiderate, unreasonable, self-centred neighbours.
For us, that goes anywhere, right?
Welcome to Sg
Thanks, Chui! 😍🇸🇬 - Josh & Kalie
Hi Simon, just to repeat my request and regarding my last posting l forgot the very famous name:- MICHELIN HAWKER FOOD AWARDS.
Hey guys has Singapore 🇸🇬 open their borders, lm in Cambodia 🇰🇭 South African wanna come to study in a beauty school?
Hi, Annie. This is the latest on Singapore's covid situation. www.stb.gov.sg/content/stb/en/home-pages/advisory-on-covid-19.html
Possibly the beauty school can get you that special permission. Our advice is to start dialogue with them.
@@ExpatsEverywhere thank you
@@anniemkhungo2242 You're very welcome. Hope that helps get you started.
Costs of living in Singapore is still pretty expensive.....Just make more preparations :D
I hardly see expat got for mixed rice, let alone like it!
Most of our expat friends like mixed rice 😀 Are the expats you know too "atas"?
Mixed rice for the win! 🍛
Thanks for the view and comment, alsouni.
@@ExpatsEverywhere I see, that's very reassuring, I should be making at least a bit more than that!
How is it for retirees, who would like to stay like half/year, then visit neighboring countries.
It could be difficult (expensive) for the visa work. Malaysia is probably a better option. - Josh & Kalie
Which is the best realestate agent online to look for houses?
That's a really difficult question to answer because each person might need something different from their agent. A good site to use to look at properties is Property Guru. - Josh & Kalie www.propertyguru.com.sg/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA34OBBhCcARIsAG32uvM3b83B5gjKhpf64gGSf_sSOTsK4Nokm5fq5KhMi6dJ74Vv4Jnu08QaAvm5EALw_wcB
Seems like you guys lived in Singapore for quite a while. How long were you both there? I’m a Singaporean but left the country about 5 years ago and moving to Portugal next month.
We were there 4 years. Still love it. Still very connected there. Amazing community of people but just needed to pursue other opportunities in life. We would go back one day to live.
Now Portugal is home for us. - Josh & Kalie
@@ExpatsEverywhere I just saw the other vlog and realised that you guys were there for 4 years. Geylang was dodgy during my growing up years but not anymore. Lisbon will be my new upcoming home and maybe I’ll get to say hello to you guys in Porto. I’ll be moving after the lockdown, hopefully it won’t be extended. Stay safe!
I love how they leave their stuff at a table and no one took it.
It's pretty wild. A lot of Singaporeans do not recommend doing this but it seems like a tissue packet or old umbrella does the trick and is safer to leave than a wallet or phone.
I LOVE SINGAPORE
No doubt that Singapore is fantastic!
Hi Simon, have you heard about Michelin awards for hawkers food? Love to see how you search for them. This can be another video!
Thanks, Sabil! We think a few people have done videos like that before. 😅 - Josh & Kalie
Okaay, it is a Bad local Translation from the original Chinese phrase 杂菜饭ZaCaiFan, meaning:
"RICE With Portions of Assorted Dishes, to each customer's preference of choices, meat, vegetables and mixed veg + meat combo.....etc
Well, "Rice with various Dishes" could be a Mouthful, so, perhaps the inaccurate "Mix Rice" DOES SERVE A CONVENIENT PURPOSE , Despite being Misleading
JIAK / CHEW / MAKAN !! 🤤
LOL 😂 How about Bibimbap in Korean? It's mixed rice too. - Josh & Kalie

Haze? Thanks to our good neighbour. Even WHO can't help.
Would WHO help? :-)
@@ExpatsEverywhere None of the International Institutions can help. Even or Foreign Ministry cant do anything ! Even Indon President gave out warning but to no avail. Am sure it's all over the news globally.
Lim Chye Hock we don’t know whether to thumbs up or down this. Obviously grateful for the comment and explanation but saddened by the news.
You missed the fact that English is spoken as a second language by, basically, everyone there!
It's hard now to get a PR. So many rules. Plus isnt it expensive?
We're not sure if it's expensive.
What about healthcare costs? Private insurance? Never lived there, but always enjoyed visiting.
It's very difficult to say because everyone's insurance is quite different, you know? Private insurance is very good though. It's safe to say you'll be paying around $3,000 SGD and up.
Thanks for the question.
Public healthcare is alot cheaper but mainly for citizens. Private healthcare options are many but many Singaporeans will buy their own insurance to cover all chronic illness/life insurance. Make sure the company u r working for cover insurance.
@@gwenleesl Thanks for contributing.
@@ExpatsEverywhere right, maybe just living there temporarily while looking for suitable housing in Singapore 🙂
Nice :-)

How are salaries? I’m a finance grad
Salaries for expats tend to be very good, but it's also very competitive and people don't tend to get their start in Singapore if you know what we mean.
Sir,will 2000$ dollars is enough for living in Singapore in a month? Plz reply
It's probably advisable to have a roommate, but it's doable. - Josh & Kalie
@@ExpatsEverywhere so it means it's enough, I'm right?
DDS ( group of Filipinos who praise President Duterte ) will say that the Philippines is like Singapore, but better.
Interesting. We would disagree. How about you?
I would say it's much worse than Singapore. I wonder why are there so many filipinos coming to work in Singapore if their country is much better?
I would definitely disagree too. For me, Bangkok is even way better than Manila as well.
dude, just say the income level required... THE ACTUAL DOLLAR AMOUNT
@Expats Everywhere 2,500 USD/mth seems insanely low... plus how do you actually get to live there if you are self employed
.
No choice.
That's right. Changi Airport Duty Free! 😊😂
I am currently going to move to singapore and i dont wanna because i dont wanna start a whole new life... new school...new friends ......

I like your videos, but why is the dude in his 30/40s wearing that cap like a 5 year old kid?
A 5 year old. Come on, at least a 15 year old. Truth be told, there are two reasons 1. covid led to no haircuts and 2. there are a decent amount of 30 and 40 year old that wear caps because it was that generation that wore caps like that in the US. Have a good one, Lukas. - Josh
