Yea true and that story looked more plain and boring then anything it did look good tho but was not interesting no one would care to watch that film he made
Calling this project "limited" is such an understatement. I'm honestly upset that it wasn't even touched upon how Zachary Levi got involved in this production. The whole thing could have been shot on a phone in an apartment with zero lighting and terrible sound, but starring Levi, it still would have had heightened appeal to industry insiders because of the connected talent. The business of film making is so poorly represented in videos like these, and yet it is the most important part in actually turning your skills into a career.
I was surprised too that they didn’t even mention it. Maybe they will explain; but meanwhile If you want to watch something fantastic that explains just that: ruclips.net/video/sZpvVggtwyk/видео.html
exactly...it`s all about exposure and imagine how much exposure this video could have gotten with a normal dude...Only Zach himself alone brings thousands of exposure
I have to goes against the crowd for this one. This was a very limited project indeed, and collaborating with someone famous or not isn't the point. There is zero point made in this video about how to market the film, so I really don't see why there is such a fuss about the presence of Zachary. If anything, since this is featured on his YT channel it means he was happy to have this opportunity, which tell you that especially in weird times, you *never know how a celebrity might react* (my friends got a A-list actor from my town to play in their pilot and they didn't knew him). It kind of saddens me to see most people are so focused on marketing the film before shooting it. This is about MAKING movies. I don't think this movie was made to be sold to any producer.
I'm a young writer Director and Actor from Ghana. 🇬🇭 FilmRiot has inspired my friends and i so much into making movies even with no budget. Thank you for this video. Looking forward to sharing our content from Africa to you. 🙂
I'm gonna be honest. I never stop and video and go watch a video that is being broken down. I'm just like "show me the magic". But I am really glad that I did for this one. "The Statement" completely through me off guard at the end. I did not expect that at all! And then realizing that we were listening to this character's last words. It was an amazing experience.
It really doesn’t 😂 when it comes to named celebrities the answer is all the same: connections. What he talked about throughout the video is more important for all indie filmmakers.
"No budget filmmaking" *uses two $3,000 cameras LMAO, in all seriousness, this project was super cool. Twist really hit hard, very informative video for aspiring flmmakers.
I think what he said by ''no budget'' is no budget allowed for that specific short film (like crew with gattering, payed locations, additionnal lights, dolly, vehicules, costumes, built sets, etc) You can get a decent result with a single 700$ camera and vintage lens from ebay. It will just take more time and effort.
This guy NEVER talks about how they got a name actor to be in their project, which was the ONLY reason i watched in the first place. A common problem on these type of videos...
He never explained how his backyard is a whole ass river either. People have different lives, different friends. It’s hard to network now and will be for a while so dont be hard on yourself, you dont need CHUCK to make films with your friends.
The Statement is a short film masterpiece. Zach Ramelan did such a great job. The film is moving and powerful. Everyone who was involved did such a great job. The behind the scenes was so informative.
I've been travelling around Australia in an unreliable van, by myself, making short movies during covid. Totally agree and enjoy the process of solving limitations with creative solutions and a zero budget.
Wow, great job! The sound is easily one of the best parts though everything was excellent throughout. The focus 'issues' looked intentional and gave it a dreamy quality.
While everything he mentions helped tell an outstanding story, they were NOT what made this an outstanding short. It was the story itself that made this an outstanding short. Absolutely outstanding and should be an inspiration to all.
We just gonna ignore how this "no-budget" film has light reflectors, professional actors, assistance from a crew, two decent cameras, a gimble, $40 LED lights, VR headset props, editing software, recording equipment, sound library, and more $100 lights?? Come on guys. I have no beef with videos on stuff that's above my pay grade, but don't pretend that this is "no budget." You're on RUclips. Most of your viewers best hope is to make videos with their phone and NO equipment. And I say this as a guy who is lucky enough to actually have equipment
As always, a ton of great information. Its nice to hear from professionals who face the same kind of limitations we all do, and also how they overcome them. I'm going to watch the film now.
Thanks Ryan and the Film Riot team for inspiring me to get into filmmaking and to create my own you tube channel for smartphone filmmaking! You guys rock and make creating a movie feel possible. : )

A Filmmakers Dream I normally set my soundtrack somewhere between-15 to -20dB is this normal? Is this correct? Just haven’t found any information on that
@@salmosdelanoche If it's just going online just put your peaks to 0db. If it's for a cinema or TV it's something like -10db. That's why youtube is louder than netflix
I usually set the dialogues and voices between -6 and -3dB, and then adjust the music and sound effects from that. But I don't know if it's the right way to do it.
I'm still using smartphone and action camera (still cannot afford a camera). I dont see that as a limitation, although it is. My limitation currently is story. I have problem to focus my imagination, to create STORY. I'm really bad at story.

Nice job with the film. I wish he would have addressed casting. But my biggest problem after watching the BTS, is I didn't see any Covid protocols being followed. Zero masks. People were much closer than 6 feet. I would have been more impressed if he had followed the protocols. But still, nice film. Enjoyed it. Also, about your short film contest. Is camera quality and audio quality taken into account or is it the story and shots themselves? Just asking because I don't know if I'll have access to my school's equipment because our film teacher didn't show up to school.
I'd say that audio quality is usually more critiqued then video quality in most cases since it's usually one of the more upfront ways a viewer receives the story and mood that you are trying to create. This doesn't mean that video isn't a big factor aswell. Video quality isn't limited to just the resolution or frame rate of the video itself, it's more based off of experience and equipment on hand which can portray what all of these professionals and film studios have. That however should not take away the fact that video and audio quality only goes as far as the film's plot, idea, and execution itself. Just use what you have around you and make what you see in your head, if you have that down then you are golden.
They should really start a masterclass or program for editing, VFX, SFX, Screenwriting, acting and everything like that!!! Honestly, because their work is far beyond talent and ingenious

Make friends in the industry. It takes years of experience and knowing the right people to get big names, so you’ll want to attach as many professionals as possible to the project before a big actor will consider it.
