I learn so much about the latest innovations from your RUclips Channel that when I go to local shops it's easy to tell when they are trying to off-load something on me or are more locked into a specific brand (that they are pushing heavily) than they are willing to admit. One installation contractor wrote up a big proposal and then (when I didn't immediately fill out a credit app) he told me "This deal expires the moment you walk out the door!" I cringe to think that type of hard sell works on anyone.
As usual, lots of great info. One thing you didn't mention is how the door seal works at the end OPPOSITE of the handle. We have a 23 year old, builder grade sliding door where there's a big gap (almost 1/4") that I think may have had some type of furring strip but I now have to push foam into that gap (the WHOLE lenght of the door) at peak summer and winter times. Can you talk about how that area is sealed on today's doors? Also, a video comparing and contrasting French doors vs. sliding doors would be very helpful. Thanks for all videos. The effort you put into them shows every time!
Hello Mr. jeff. I’m just wanting to give you lots of thanks for showing me store around my area chicago (illinoise) for my future project of installation of windows Vasant patel Chicago (illinoise)
Thank you so much for the insight on these sliding doors. I bought 2 sets of composite sliding doors soon to be delivered. I have a bank of three sets of French doors that should also be replaced, not not sure if we want sliding doors where it's a living room - how well will it look and how well will they operate in the Living Room - the most livable room? Thanks for the perspectives - now I know more about doors. I'm in Arizona!!! I needed black frames to match the rest of the house.
I’m looking for our 86 year old mom’s house. She’s lived there for over 50 years and hers are worn out. They leak. My question is, from the inside, she wants it to open on the right side. Do I order right side open or is it ordered by looking from the outside in? By the way, she lives in SW Florida
Howdy Jeff… trying wrap up our window and sliding door purchase. Our hang up is the installation of the sliding glass doors. I’ve had three different quotes with three different install techniques😳 1. Trim off the sides and place the new door in. 2. Remove the door frame and insert new door and frame. 3. Remove door frame and the frame and redo the flashing etc. I feel option 2 is the best solution but Northwest insists on option 1. They are installing Anlin Del Mar and Malibu series sliders. Thanks😊
Thanks for all the great videos Jeff. I’m trying to decide between a Provis Endure and Pella 250 series. Unfortunately I’m not able to see them in person so I was interested in getting your thoughts on the pros and cons for them. Much appreciated. Thanks
Hi Jeff ~ Thanks so much for your great, informative videos. Are aluminum frames significantly better at blocking outside noise from coming in than vinyl frames? Would value your feedback!
No, I do not. But I have a friend in your area who does really good work. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Thermally broken windows are only available in aluminum products. Marvin doesn't make any products with aluminum except as a cladding. Cladding does not need to have a thermal break.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Now im really confused. The windows I am looking at are fully aluminum as are the s/doors. All are from the coastline range or so im told. No cladding on windows or doors. Are either thermally broken? I cannot find details.
Jennifer, I am so sorry that I confused you. I just went online to look at this product and realizd that I was wrong. I was not familiar with the all-aluminum version of the Marvin impact windows. In Texas, we do not have that product. The only products that I've seen in Texas have a wood interior or they are made from fiberglass. Please accept my apologies. I do not know if they make a thermally improved aluminum product or not, the website was not very clear. If they do make a thermally improved product, that would be better but it's not necessary in Florida. Thermally improved products do better in cold climates than they do in warm climates.
@@HoustonWindowExperts No need to apologise sir, I understand. Please also feel free to edit your original reply if you see fit for your viewers. I did not intend ask you something that you wouldn't be aware of. Please except mine and thank YOU for still clarifying and providing the answer I needed.
Thank you so much…in your video you didn’t mention them or show them. Is there any difference in screens between vinyl, alum, etc? Or are the screens pretty much all the same regardless of material.
Most companies include a screen with their windows or doors. However, some do make a better screen than others. Check with your local dealer about what options are available for screens in your area. By the way, I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Thank you for the videos. They have been very helpful. I wished there was a business around me that carried more than one or two products. I am trying to decide between the Quaker Modern Vu and the Pella Impervia patio door. The door will be in direct sunlight. Also, extreme temperature variations. Priorities are longevity, smooth sliding, and increased view. Good value, not cheap. What would be your recommendation between the two? Any other that you would recommend? Thanks again.
I think that the Pella product would serve you better in this scenario. I am not sure what part of the country you live in, but we do have a list of great window companies all around the country that we endorse. Maybe we know someone near you? If you would like to learn more, please check out JeffsList.com
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thank you for the quick reply. I did check out JeffsList, unfortunately there were no companies in Sandpoint ID. Once again thank you for the great resource.
@@HoustonWindowExperts One last question. I also started to look at the Marvin Essential and Elevate. Would you recommend either of these over the Pella Impervia for a patio door? Thanks again. I'll let you know if I have a great experience with a company in this area.
The only problems I've had with sliding glass doors is the storm water and wind infiltration. From what I hear they all have the problem of air&water infiltration.
Would be great if you did a video on lift and slide doors too, especially comparing to normal sliders. Especially curious if there are any fiberglass options. All the options I have found are either aluminum or vinyl.
Thanks for watching my videos and for your question. We operate in Houston and the Dallas/Ft Worth area. However, we have great relationships with so many wonderful window dealers all over the. Country. I started a website where you can see if we have a trusted window company in your area. Perhaps I can point you in the right direction? Check out TheWindowExperts.com for a dealer near you! All the best! Jeff
I am so confused on which brand to buy. I want a good quality probably vinyl unit but not one that's gonna break the bank. Looking at around $1500-1700. Was considering Jeld Wen but the reviews from the bigbox stores are not good with them. Then looked at Pela, kinda the same thing. Am considering Window World. Had a rep out and the doors seem well made, but who knows anymore. It's hard to find trustworthy reviews online for these. The questionable quality from most companies anymore really makes it so difficult to buy anything.
If you can find a sliding door and that price point, it must be junk. So many companies are scraping the bottom of the barrel to have the cheapest products on the market. In the end, they're doing it disservice to their communities. If you're not spending at least 3:00 to $4,000 on a sliding door, you're not going to be happy for very long.
Yikes! That can be a problem. The smaller the window, the smaller the target. However, if you do get a window hit by a golf ball, I would go with a triple strength glass. You could also have it tempered which would make it even stronger.
I think he knows what he is doing i don’t know how he gets to Tyler texas i bet they don’t know as much as him. I am looking to enclose a patio. Only one open wall roof covers and brick walls on the rest.
Jeff thank you for all your good information

Hi Jeff ~ Thanks so much for your great, informative videos. Are aluminum frames significantly better at blocking outside noise from coming in than vinyl frames? Would value your feedback!
Actually, vinyl is better at sound reduction than aluminum. I'd avoid aluminum if sound is a big concern.

any major difference between a steel french door and fiberglass besides weight?
Steel will not be as efficient and it's also is much more expensive.

Thermally broken windows are only available in aluminum products. Marvin doesn't make any products with aluminum except as a cladding. Cladding does not need to have a thermal break.

Jeff, what would be a ballpark price per square foot on the Western aluminum door you reviewed?
How large and how much is that first vinyl black sliding door?
That door is 16' wide and 8' tall. It cost about $8000
@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the reply. That space and size is nice.
Impervia va lifestyle sliding door?
What would you pick
Impervia for sure. You could also consider Infinity from Marvin.

They come with screens.

it is nice style ,i like it.and hopefully we can have a talk for futhure

What material for a sliding door exposed to sun all day
Fiberglass
Too bad weather durability of fiberglass versus aluminum versus vinyl was not discussed. Will white fiberglass have to be painted some day?
Good fiberglass will not need paint for probably 30 years.
