We decided to watch The big Lebowski and I fell asleep somewhere early in the movie, while my friends fell asleep later. I woke up somewhere at the end and the credits rolled. I could only see this small TV screen and weak flashing lights. Everyone's asleep and Thai song just started blastin, VIVA LASS VEGAS, but which such a gentle voice it felt harmonious. I was hypnotised by this song at 3 am and I couldn't stop listening to it while the credits roll. It was like a nostalgic taste from childhood you feel randomly while an adult. I still when I remember that night feel as if that was somekind of dreem because the song sounds so harmonic.
Haha that's beautiful. I've fallen asleep during this movie 3 times and finally watched it all the way through when I'm 27 years old now. I wonder why, maybe it was never the right time. Great film. And this song is phenomenal. Your memory made me flashback to my own nostalgic times growing up.
I had the same nostalgic feeling while watching Big Lebowski credits as well. I guess it takes me back to the 60’s and early 70’s …. Things were simpler back then.
@@Skizz_Missive Same with me! It's the only movie on earth that you can fall asleep amid watching it (too many white russians, what else) but still don't say next morning "what a shite and boring movie that was" ... watch it again few months or years later with the same experience and finally make it thorugh and say "uhh well, it's just fucking brilliant".
I’m a massive Elvis fan and she blew me away with her cover!!! I watched TBL on TCM last night and she played over the closing credits and I sat up and Shazam her on my phone and when I saw her face I said OH YEAH she’s the one 🩷

I love this cover, Shawn's voice is so beautiful and the song is just so chill overall, perfect outro to a movie as chill as The Big Lebowski! The Dude abides!
The hypnotic melody of this song performed by Shawn practically guarantees many in the audience will stay put while the credits roll and she sings. Love it!
I first heard this on Twin Peaks. This incredible scene with ''Dougie'' riding in the car seeing the bright lights of Vegas but not quite knowing what was going on had me nearly crying. Lynch found the perfect song for this scene. Masterful!
Shawn OWNS this song! Presley just walks through it without any commitment whatsoever but this captures a pathos I never realized lurked behind the hedonistic lyrics. Why isn't this on vinyl?
This beautiful version of Viva Las Vegas by Shawn Colvin makes me proud to be a human. If humans can produce beauty like this, I guess maybe it's okay to let them continue living on the Earth.
Absolute Ecstasy. Wonderful song with an incredible interpretation by Shawn Colvin that gets almost no airplay let alone any recognition. Sublime is the word to describe it.
I purchased the season soundtrack for season 3 of Twin Peaks.....and I was not let down at all. Part of the fun of watching it was just to see what great song would be included with the new episode.
Just finished The Big Lebowski for the upteenth time and heard this again. Not on the Amazon album, but a great version of the EP song, as good as the original, and I'm a big Elvis fan.
It's been years since I watched TBL and tonight this cover popped up in my head. All I can think of is how thankful I am to be alive to hear such beautiful music. ❤❤❤
Forever I loved “this” song but no band, just found this & happy I did. Many versions but this one by far is way better & something special! She is pretty as it’s nice to see the beautiful face behind this version. Ever sense I saw the movie in the theater I remember walking out at the end but when I heard her voice singing this song I stopped & haven’t forgotten it sense. Love it 😍
There is this dark, dreamy and sinister feeling in this song which amazes me. I can't put the exact name on it. Probably this is why Lynch used in that epic scene. This also depicts the shiny and colorful, fairy tale like looks of Las Vegas, but in the interior it is full of degeneracy, drugs and prone to evil.
I came from a collection of hit's by Doc Popous the song writer , this version was described as being down and out ,in cheap motel version , but still believing in the dream
Shawn nails it. If you're looking for an honest "feel" of Las Vegas, this is it - - - not a superficial fast-paced glossed over take as performed by (take your pick). With the slower paced version, Shawn uses her gift of an amazing voice to lay-out what's really real about that place. . . Commercial radio had the chance to right a wrong by playing this stellar version (written by Doc Pomus), but they passed on it. Bad for predatory business.
I was so happy when this track was on the Twin Peaks album and used in the show. I just see the lebowski bowling stars scrolling upward maybe over the drone shots of Vegas
Twin Peaks made me come, but I heard it in The Big Lebowski before and loved it then. I like this better than the Elvis version....and Elvis wasn't exactly chopped liver.
Congress should enact a National Big Lebowski Day on December 4th (Jeff Bridges birthday) and this song should play on continuous loop in every Ralph's. The nation abides.
All respect to the King, but the Dude prefers this version man!
Me too.
The dude abides.
A different beast
Don't worry about it. He didn't write it anyway.
Someone wrote the King's version plays on the plane landing in Vegas, Colvin's on the plane home...But this dude prefers Colvin's too.
Love this song. This version. Love it!! Makes me Feel Great! She's got an excellence voice. Excellence!!

The Big Lebowski gives a real feel for the real California. The Cohen Brothers are simply superb film makers.

I don't think Elvis walks through it, he just pushes the adrenaline aspect of it. But I agree, Shawn's version is definitive
His presence said it all. I love this version. Elvis is the king and he lived it Las Vegas .
Well said! "...a pathos I never realized lurked behind the hedonistic lyrics."
