  • [Complex] How to fold my Caterpillar Flasher, an iso-area flasher whose crease pattern is related to the Caterpillar in the Mini Magic Ball tutorial - • Origami Mini Magic Bal... (Please fold the Caterpillar before attempting the Caterpillar Flasher!)
    This model is appropriate for advanced folders only, or, put another way... If you can fold this then you can consider yourself an advanced folder! That said, the easiest method of folding it is to download and print the crease pattern: www.flickr.com...
    cut out the square, fold the 16 X 16 grid of genderless creases (as I show in the video) and fold on the indicated mountains (blue lines) and valleys (red lines). If you use an inkjet printer and and fold immediately after printing the pattern, then the lines will be slightly scored by the dampness of the ink and it will be easier to fold. It's tempting to want to fold a diagonal grid of creases but WARNING... That makes it way more difficult to fold. I found out the hard way and had to re-shoot the whole video!

    IMPORTANT HINT: If you have a flasher supreme lying around, you can easily turn it's previous folds into a catterpillar flasher by adding specific new folds :)
    By carefully looking at both the crease patterns you could even say that the catterpillar flasher is an upgrade in difficulty to the flasher supreme ^.^
    Now I'm looking forward for more ways to fold the flasher deluxe :p

    • @5daydreams
      @5daydreams 7 лет назад +1

      Okay, having just finished my "upgrade" I noticed that although several folds are helpful, THE CREASES IN THE CENTER WILL GET CONFUSING. So this method might not be reccomended for people who aren't very experienced or familiar with flashers \o/
      note* I did open my old flasher and draw parts of the new CP into it, however, the section which troubled me the most was (as you'd probably expect) the center creases, as they really are the most important section.
      Anyhow, happy folding, everyone :D I hope my input was helpful to someone xD

    The simplest method to do this is after making the crease pattern make the gender less creases fan and make the mountain and valley reverse folds at the corner to make it more exact and then rotate 180•and repeat the same.

    Heya Jeremy, I really love these flasher models, they are all so mathematical, and I like that :)
    Speaking of which, would it be at all possible to design a modular Hyper-cube, please? If you didn't already know, a hyper-cube is a 3D representation of a 4D cube, it's a cube inside of a larger cube! It would be really cool to see that as an origami model, even if it would drive me insane to make :) well, keep up the great work, Jeremy, see ya!

    • @jeremyshaferorigami
      @jeremyshaferorigami  2 года назад +1

      Blue is a darker color than red, so against a background of white, it stands out more. The mountains are typically the folds that will be made by pinching on front side, so they should be shown more prominently. That's the best explanation I can give, but in truth I don't really know. It's just a convention that has been passed down from folder to folder for as long as I can remember.
