    We also have a Colorado ZR2 short bed, and it came down to deciding between the Project M and Tune M1. Other options are certainly excellent setups, but we imagined sitting inside during bad weather, leaning forward 'til our foreheads were touching, and realized that the sleek canopies that match the truck's lines simply had too little interior volume for us. I'm sure that we would have been quite happy with the Project M, but Tune's east-west sleeping arrangement with the queen mattress was the clincher. Being able to have the interior fully open, without having the slide-out encroaching into the standing room, is a game changer. Of course that's only possible with great engineering, and the structural considerations that Tune's designers have put into the M1 give us great confidence. We are very excited to be making the long drive from western Washington to Denver a month from now to have ours installed. We really appreciate following you guys and look forward to many adventures in our M1!

      Thanks for sharing! That's all great thoughts and reasons that we went with Tune. We know we'll be spending months at a time in it and needed all the space we could get.

    Good info. This helped me decide between the two.
    I picked up my Tune M1 in Denver last week and it is great. I like that they are doing installation outside of Denver now.

    I’m wondering if I bought one to live in for free years, how would the materials hold up? Could there possibly be a hard-sided model? I’ve shrunk to 5’8”. Off like to be able to sleep in it without popping the top. I’d that possible? Thanks

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for watching! I'd imagine the tent material will show some wear after years of use. It is replaceable if needed. Tune doesn't make a hard sided model but there are a few on the market. The Oru Bruin is collapsible and has hard sides. You could sleep in it without popping the top if you created a space in the bed of the truck for that. A 6ft bed truck might be the best for something like that.

    Thanks for the videos. I’m ready to put our name’s down for the Tune M1 but husband isn’t sold on the idea of sleeping over the cab. The idea of climbing up high onto a sleeping platform and feeling the movement from other people or the dogs shifting around at night has him worried about getting a good night’s sleep. Do you notice a lot of wobble while you’re sleeping? Do you mind the up and down dance of getting in and out of bed?

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the insightful question! We don't mind climbing up and down. You can use the bump out as a step, but it's a little high for me (jess) so I like to step up onto a bin or our fridge first. The hardest part about the height is getting Lupe in and out of bed! As for the rocking - it does move and shake, I would assume this depends on the stiffness of your suspension. We have soft suspension and I'm a light sleeper so it does keep me up if Greg or Lupe are moving around a lot. I think any camper sitting in the bed of a truck would do this, regardless of whether it hangs over the cab since the flex comes from the suspension, not so much from the part that is cantilevered over the cab. Hope that helps and keep the questions coming!

    Loves the videos guys! I got gmc canyon like your zr2 and also thinking about getting a Tune! How’s the suspension holding up ? Any thoughts of doing any suspension mods in the future? 😊

      @DrifterJourney  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching! We were hoping to keep the suspension stock because we really like it (and paid for the ZR2 upgrade for the good stuff). It handles fine and is within the payload but we notice we sag a bit in the rear when we're fully loaded. We've been looking at the expedition leaf pack for the rear to even us out a bit and hopefully bring it back to the stock feeling of when there wasn't a camper on. It's not a rush for us so we'll see when we make it happen. Possibly before our next long Baja trip.

    Tune is definitely cleaner looking. Condensation will be an issue no matter which one you choose. I'm a rtt camper on a bed rack but it's not ideal for my lady and dog. We're thinking about the Tune and a offroad trailer without sleeping cabin. For the amenities and ability to shove it in a storage unit while it's not needed. Lithium batteries I don't trust being where we sleep, so a trailer housing all that is ideal. Plus you can put starlink on the trailer with security cameras to monitor while taking a drive.

      Thanks for watching! You're correct about condensation. It hasn't been too bad but it has happened a few nights. Having the fan running on low helps with that. A heater would probably mostly eliminate it also. Sounds like you have a good idea in the works.

      @DrifterJourney trailer isn't ideal. Especially backing up. But it is nice. Can't wait to be on the road, enjoying life before age creeps up. Thanks for the videos.

      @WOLF3GOIF backing down trails has always pushed me away from an offroad trailer. It would be nice to drop it and go our on adventures from a base camp. We highly recommend getting out and about while younger. We never regretted taking 5 years "off" to travel in our van.

      Key things: All these Toppers and Slid in’s have trade offs and it comes down to what one can live with or without.
      4 Wheel stated any self installation that requires drilling into/ through the camper ( like self install shore power 30 amp plug) voids the warranty.
      Window options in 4 wheel and Tune are limited to a window or no window ( unacceptable) a Slider or Arctic Turn in a side panel that pops open would be optimal ( see the Oru window options)
      Tent material and Tent window design. Tune M1 seems to be the winner here with a rear window looking out over tailgate ( best security view to see any tailgate intruders.) Roof integrity- 4 wheel has a thin aluminum skin. Do Your Homework if you’re in the market. Trade Offs-

      @DrifterJourney  Месяц назад +1

      @TheEnormasOne well said! There were huge trade offs in space coming from a van. We opened many more doors with the truck in terms of accessibility to places we never were willing to go to before.

    I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I am pretty sure we're going with the Tune M1. I had some very pertinent questions regarding these campers and 4WC has yet to respond to two emails and a phone call. Tune responded to my email, in depth, and I could tell they actually went the extra mile to do some basic research on where I live (from my zip code) to talk about install locations and whatnot. The fact that they put that much effort into responding to my questions speaks volumes. I don't need a shiny sales pitch, I need my questions answered, so I can make an informed decision, which Tune did. I am just hoping they don't go the way of Hiatus and balloon up to a 2 year lead time before I can pull the trigger.

      That brings up some good thoughts. I definitely like being able to get answers and support when needed. I also hope that they can keep up with demand as they grow so folks see the value add.

    I was trying to decide between the M1 and the project M also. i was leaning toward the project M. In the end i went with lonepeak. Theere is a $7k difference between the lonepeak and the other 2 for the base model. I do have some questions on how they handle extreme weather, rain and wind and insultion. All 3 are great campers but when it comes down to which is the best value? Hands down it goes to lonepeak

    • @DrifterJourney

      Thanks for watching! There is definitely a difference between the Tune/Project M and the Lone Peak. Although the Lone Peak comes in quite a bit cheaper, it's not as spacious. I really like what they're doing with it, but we knew we needed all the space we could get for the long trips that we'll be taking. We eliminated the wedge style and anything with a smaller bed from our search.

    I like the Tune also. But my man, when you said “the Tune vs that other brand” ….so we wanted to tell you why we chose Tune M1, you gave away your bias. That kind of eliminates the usefulness of your otherwise really well formed opinion. Edit that.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for sharing. Obviously, I'm biased towards Tune since that is what we purchased. I was just trying to share the things I had heard/seen about 4 Wheel Camper Project M. I honestly couldn't think of their brand name in that moment, so that's how it came out. We try to keep things authentic, so unfortunately, that leads to me messing up here and there.

  • @willcooper2
    @willcooper2 6 месяцев назад +7

    Is this just an all around paid advertisement? You gave no helpful information on Project M. Just a bias Tune plugin. I hope next review you do some research, because the camper you tried to knock has a 30 plus year track record of overlanding and still going on trucks. Just a guy on the internet looking for unbiased reviews.

      @DrifterJourney  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for watching. This was not paid for by Tune. I'm obviously biased towards Tune because that's what we purchased. I clearly stated that I haven't seen a Project M in person and was just sharing things I heard/read and the few specs I read about online. In the end, the big bed sold me so I stopped looking. I am excited to see a Project M in person at some point so I can see if it changes my opinion. I'd love to do an in person comparison video if you know anyone that has one.
