    Hi Tuula, like many below, I've crocheted all my life & never heard the awesome tips you share. What a revelation. Have already recommended your videos to my who fb neighborhood! One question, tho: How wide are your t-shirt yarn "strips", please. I've put out a call for t-shirts anyone wants to get rid of & just picked up my first few! Yay! I'm ready to cut out my own yarn, but very uncomfortable, not knowing how wide to cut. Thanks so much for your genius hacks & any advice you might have for me.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Год назад +2

      Hello Mona, so glad that you have found good tips on my channel!
      The width of the strips depends a bit on what you want the final product to be. But for an average thickness of a rug I have cut them around 2 cm (or just under 2 in). The important thing is that all strips for one project are about the same thickness. So if one t-shirt you cut up is thicker material, then it should be cut slightly narrower.

    how do i make the tee shirt yarn? And how do i end the rug? love what u do! and u explain it well.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  4 года назад +2

      You can either buy ready-made T-shirt yarn like this amzn.to/3dPyK1z (affiliate link) or cut up any stretchy clothes to make some. I normally cut mine about 3 cm wide.
      When you end the rug it is good to cut the last bit of the T-shirt yarn to taper in towards the end, just like how show when you change the yarn colour. Then you just fasten off the yarn when you come to the end.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  3 года назад +1

      You need to select the type of cotton yarn that does. Like mercerized or I would at times use the type that is meant for warp in woven rugs, it is super durable. The soft cottons people use for things like dishcloths is not ideal for this.

    Did you have shown how to cut T shirt for making this carpet ?
    Thanks a lot for the answer !

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  3 года назад +1

      No, I haven't shown that anywhere. The cutting can be done in so many ways, also depending on what types of seams the T-shirts have that you are using. If there are thick seems they need to be cut off. Otherwise cutting either in the round or back and forth, keeping the same width. Cut continuously, as long strips as possible.

      Yes, in two different ways. You could make the base like this and make the sides by stopping the increases. Or you could make a rounded basket by increasing less all the time, allowing the shape to get rounded like a bowl.

    Love you video!
    But how would you make it into a basket then?

      If you wanted a basket, you would stop increasing after you had a piece that is large enough for the base of the basket. That would be a basket with straight sides. If you wanted a rounded basket you would need to pull the t-shirt yarn a bit tighter all the time.
