Hi Tuula, like many below, I've crocheted all my life & never heard the awesome tips you share. What a revelation. Have already recommended your videos to my who fb neighborhood! One question, tho: How wide are your t-shirt yarn "strips", please. I've put out a call for t-shirts anyone wants to get rid of & just picked up my first few! Yay! I'm ready to cut out my own yarn, but very uncomfortable, not knowing how wide to cut. Thanks so much for your genius hacks & any advice you might have for me.
Hello Mona, so glad that you have found good tips on my channel!
The width of the strips depends a bit on what you want the final product to be. But for an average thickness of a rug I have cut them around 2 cm (or just under 2 in). The important thing is that all strips for one project are about the same thickness. So if one t-shirt you cut up is thicker material, then it should be cut slightly narrower.
That was a very good demonstration.
Great, thank you!
how do i make the tee shirt yarn? And how do i end the rug? love what u do! and u explain it well.
You can either buy ready-made T-shirt yarn like this amzn.to/3dPyK1z (affiliate link) or cut up any stretchy clothes to make some. I normally cut mine about 3 cm wide.
When you end the rug it is good to cut the last bit of the T-shirt yarn to taper in towards the end, just like how show when you change the yarn colour. Then you just fasten off the yarn when you come to the end.
I am going to try to do this, it is beautiful
So clear ....must be easy .....thank you so much. I will try ASAP
Hope you enjoy it! 😊
Hei that was great ! I think that could be the technique I'd could use for the rug I want to make. I was going to ask if I could make different shape but you ending next video already answer that. I'll check that one out when L'm ready to make it. Thanks for the tips 👍
Thank you! Yes, the same technique works in different ways. Maybe I'll try next how I would manage to make a square like this, crocheting round, not back and forth!

Oh my god.... It's really amazing too easy thank you very much.....
Great!
Me encanta este tapete lo voy Acer gracias por su programa
Hi. Thanks for the nice video. I have a question: How do you end / finalize the work?
The best way to finish it is to cut the last 30 cm or so of the T-shirt yarn so it tapers in and crochet that in.
@@TuulaMaaria 👍
Thank you so much, beautiful vedio, great teachings,👍👍👍God bless..🙏🙏🙏 have a great day.

Thank you, glad to hear you like it! Greetings from Finland 😊
@@TuulaMaaria welcome my friend
Thank you for sharing your idea. I do have a question. Do these rugs hold up to frequent washing? Does the cotton yarn wear well?
You need to select the type of cotton yarn that does. Like mercerized or I would at times use the type that is meant for warp in woven rugs, it is super durable. The soft cottons people use for things like dishcloths is not ideal for this.
Very nice and neat work.
Glad you like it!
Omg it so cool idea thanks for sharing ur idea
Seems easy.m going to try dis...thank you...
This is so helpful. Do you prefer this method as opposed to crocheting directly with the t-shirt yarn?
Yes, definitely where it goes with what I'm making. Also, crocheting directly with t-shirt yarn is very hard on your hands, this method isn't.
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you ❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!!
Very clearly explained
Beautiful job
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for the video. I'm going to try it...
Loved this tutorial..I'm ready to make one soon! Can you tell me how to switch out colors of yarn as I'm crocheting? Thanks so much.
Great! I switch colours by just dropping one and starting another and weaving the ends in afterwards.
Very nicely you explain it.
Todo lo que hace me gusta y usted explica muy bien!. Gracias
Thank you so much, happy to hear! Enjoy crocheting!
Hello !
Did you have shown how to cut T shirt for making this carpet ?
Thanks a lot for the answer !
No, I haven't shown that anywhere. The cutting can be done in so many ways, also depending on what types of seams the T-shirts have that you are using. If there are thick seems they need to be cut off. Otherwise cutting either in the round or back and forth, keeping the same width. Cut continuously, as long strips as possible.
Beautiful...
Could you make a basket with this method?
Yes, in two different ways. You could make the base like this and make the sides by stopping the increases. Or you could make a rounded basket by increasing less all the time, allowing the shape to get rounded like a bowl.
That is beautiful
Will try this
Very easyi like it very good.
Thanks a lot 😊
Wow, excellent, great idea
Good instructions. However can you make the stitches closer together .
Yes, you could make them right next to each other, without the chain stitch in between, almost covering the T-shirt yarn.
Спасибо дорогая за подробное видео. Хорошее сплетение и красиво.
Love you video!
But how would you make it into a basket then?
If you wanted a basket, you would stop increasing after you had a piece that is large enough for the base of the basket. That would be a basket with straight sides. If you wanted a rounded basket you would need to pull the t-shirt yarn a bit tighter all the time.
Super, endlich habe ich es verstanden. Vielen Dank
I love this, thank you so much! Just what I wanted!
Great to hear! 😊
Excellent video!
