  • In 1982, the DC-2 robot was making headlines for everything from participating in legal protests, to serving drinks in the Playboy Mansion, to being apprehended by the Beverly Hills Police Department in what was likely the first robot “arrest” ever. What happened?

I really hope someone _, one of your fans somewhere,_ finds one. I'm saying it right now; if I ever - _ever_ - run across a DC-2, I'm buying it, and it's going *straight* to your P.O. Box, LGR. Just to see the restoration video on _that!_ If anyone deserves an authentic 80's Robot, it's the man who gets more joy from 80's technology - with their fancy knobs and visualizers - than pretty much anyone else on the planet (^-^)
Loved the topic - so glad you did this after the DC-2 showed up in a previous video (even if it _was_ only one of the listings in a single shot with a catalog scan). Was so curious about this thing and, once again, your video went above and beyond with the research, turning out something both entertaining and informational. Awesome!

The idea of robots being built in 1982 is hilarious to me. You kiddn' me? It's 2018 and we've BARELY got experimental robots that can walk on two legs in an extremely controlled environment. The 1980s had an even looser grasp on what technology was capable of than any decade before it and it wasn't until we actually had the technology to start building this crap that we realized, "Wait, shit, this might be more difficult than I thought it would be."

    • @BrandonDKirkwood

Great video! Being a videographer myself now at 78, I can appreciate the effort invested in it. But since I'm also a life time journalist, I'll provide a couple of corrections from a good source: myself. The DC-2 robot was 5' 2". Klatu robot is pronounced Kla-TU. If the authors wish to contact me to update the video for history's sake and for more accuracy, I'll give them a scoop on the real untold story of what really happened in Beverly Hills. I'm listed in the Stockton, CA telephone directory.

I remember back in the 70's, shortly after Star Wars came out, there was some big remote control robot that looked like R2 D2 rolling around our local mall talking to kids.

Something about imagining a old robot slowly rolling away from the cops and yelling for help is kinda funny

Circa 1990 a police "robot" (complete with blue flashing lights) visited my school and talked to a few of us as we paraded like soldiers in the playground. They didn't even bother to hide the operator, though, he was sitting at the back of a van with it's doors open, openly speaking into a microphone and operating a joystick. They could at least have parked the van at an angle and put him behind it.

Charming video! I'm a little surprised that, at the end, you didn't mention the security robot that accidentally committed suicide. It seemed fitting for weird robot antics, somehow.
