The recoding by the "Village Stompers" used a 4 string tenor banjo. The banjo in this video is a 4 string plectrum banjo. A 6 string banjo is just a banjo tuned like a guitar. Since the melody is basically a single string melody you could use any of the three. For the chord melody arrangement, in this video, I prefer the 4 string plectrum banjo.
