- This is my first Practice Time tutorial for Claude Debussy's masterpiece, Clair De Lune. This is the original piece in its full form. In this tutorial, you can see my practicing process on the first part of this advanced piano piece. I talk about fingering, technique, dynamics, pedaling, musicality, and interpreting the directions on the sheet music. If you don't have the sheet music yet, you should definitely get it because it will help you keep track of what we're working on.
You can find the sheet music at the link below.

Awesome Elaine!
How'd go?
I especially found it very helpful when you played the piece at the end without any distractions. It was good to see an hear how it is played and to get the melody clear. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

No way!!! An actual tutorial of the original piece is finally here! Haven’t been on the channel in a minute, only songs I leaned from your channel was Turkish March and Für Elise, can’t wait to learn the piece I’ve wanted to play for a very long time. Haven’t played the piano in a little bit so I’m gonna brush my skills up.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
You're very welcome!

Thanks, coming soon!

You're very welcome!
Bravo!!! Eres una génia!!!
Mucas gracias!!
Saludos desde Chile!!!
Gracias! Saludos!
Was very useful! Specially the recommendation for people with small hands like me. You are the teacher I never had and that I needed when I had one. Your comment about playing with the metronome or not was right on! My only recommendstion regarding the speed is that playing at 40 beats per minute for a person that is learning the piece is not reallistic. I guess one can do that once one has learned to land on the right notes all the time!😀
Glad it was helpful! These practice time videos are demonstrations of how an advanced pianist can practice advanced pieces. Take what applies to you and leave the rest for another day. 😊
❤❤❤🎹
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Helped me a lot thank you! Part 2 please!
It's been up for a little while. Search my channel.
Your videos inspire people to keep practicing and trying, probably more than you realize. Thank you for that.
P.S. The mountains are calling your name. I heard them.
I can hear them, too! I'm planning on sometime this summer.
Coincidentally there is a professor from a California college instructing on this same piece that I've been watching. I like that you and he come from a totally different perspective but there is absolutely something to gain from each of you!
I tried this piece about 4 years ago when I started up playing again after a 40 😑 year absence from the piano and it was much too hard. Recently I went back and find it's well within my grasp now. So far I've spent alot of time on the first two pages trying to keep my hands relaxed on the octave chords. I can reach an octave (though my arthritic hands don't like it) and I'm starting on the third page onward which is much easier. I look forward to seeing you cover it all. I'm also curious about smaller hands, like yours, reaching those large chords. I feel that these types of techiques are handy to know even if my problem is slightly different. Thank you Marina for the video of this beautiful piece!
BTW, my 22 year old daughter has the smallest adult hands I've ever seen. She is 4'9" and my palm is the size of her hand stretched out. We call her raccoon hands!😄
Raccoon hands! hahaha 😂😂 I'm curious to know who the professor from California is. Do you know his name?
@@ThePianoKeys Yes! His name is John Mortenson and his teaching channel is Cedarvillemusic. He has a performance channel too, but I usually just watch his slightly sarcastic method and theory lessons. His 3 Claire De Lune videos are under "Piano Pandemictivities: Claire De Lune. 😊
Professor Mortensen is terrific. He's in the Midwest, however, not California.
@@AZmom60 Oh really? First some reason I thought he was in California!
R. Williams. I only know because some friends went to that university in Ohio!
Obrigado, Eu sempre quis tocar essa musical,
You're welcome!
You cover different things than my tutorial for Clair de lune. When will I be able to get these many comments! Amazing job!
Thank you!
My favorite teacher regreats :) hope one day I can play like you. Have a great weekend.
Thank you! You too!
ready, love this ..... please make it simple aaarghhhhhh!!!!!
I have an easy version, if this one is too advanced for you. :)
@@ThePianoKeys I'm ok with it, just don't rush it through..... you're great btw. Thanks
@@hike21 Thanks so much! These advanced pieces that I do on Practice Time videos don't really lend themselves to the note by note way that I teach simpler pieces. You might want to start with an easier piece than this one. :)
@@hike21 But, that being said, you can still pick up a lot of technique and other types of instruction from watching these Practice Time videos!
Nice
Thanks!
Can you please make a tutorial on Chopin Nocturne no.1 op.72 in E flat?
I put it on my request list.
Hi i have a question in the first tempo "andante tres expressif" in the metronome is. 73 bpm = three eighth notes ???? Please help😩❤
Well Debussy doesn't give an exact metronome indication, so it's really up to you how fast you play it. If you choose 73 bpm, then that would probably be per eighth note. But again, you can't play this music with a steady beat, as that is not stylistically appropriate.

you are so beautiful thank u for the tutorial that's what i was looking for
Thank you!
you are welcome 😊

Thanks alot for your marvelous effort and lessons, which i benefited a lot really.
Can you please make a tutorial of how to make the run on "Ballade Pour Adeline" by Richard Clayderman.. I am practicing that run for months, and still i can't do it fast and accurate, i think i am missing a certain technique of how to master this run.. Thanks in advance.. And i hope you can help me and others as well on this .
You're very welcome! You should think of working on your technique as a whole. Have you done my technique exercises?
The Piano Keys actually I didn't do all the technique exercises you posted, but do you recommend a certain exercise for this matter?
Thanks again.
@@Bulls79 all of my exercises contribute to having good technique. And you have to do them regularly to gain benefits. There's not one "perfect" exercise that will take you to where you want to be. :)
