I'm not sure what type of stitching you are doing with this machine but I would check to be sure that your bobbin is correctly inserted in the bobbin case and then adjust your top tension.
The ASR is specific to this model and some of the newer ones coming out from Janome. I'm not sure about the Elna models so it's best to check with your local Elna retailer.
I have two Janome machines, but neither do this, as far as I know. I love your machine!
