Glad people are starting to see it. The rules do not protect clubs financially. They protect the positions of legacy of the top clubs. It's possible to stay in the rules and go bankrupt.

What Simon Jordan fails to mention is that the £50 million losses in the championship Promotion season were down to Promotion Bonuses being paid - the Premier league refused them being included in the first PL season. He makes it sound like Forest were reckless in the championship, they weren't and stuck to the rules.

Agreed. We don't want relegation or even one day league titles being decided in a courtroom. If you're going to have FFP, then do it before the season starts like they do in Spain. If you're not in budget, you can't register any more players until you are. But ultimately nothing is going to change until there's a more equal distribution of money in the first place. If that was the case, then teams would be able to challenge on talent and building a good squad, rather than having one or two decent seasons before the big clubs descend like vultures on their squad and take them all away.

If you want a more level playing field, then it has to start with clubs' income. The issue now isn't that a few teams are dominating, it's that the 'wrong' teams are dominating. If you take FFP away from the smaller clubs, the bigger clubs can still outspend you. As a Forest fan I don’t understand why this is being debated.
We broke the rules we have got a punishment in which the severity is the only topic for debate , and that is down to a personal interpretation based on reading the document and forming an opinion.
Marinakas took a gamble that with the spending we would be out of sight of the relegation zone , and therefore a fine or a potential other punishment would be factored into the club thinking. I’m not sure he expected a points deduction pre Everton’s case and it’s ended up making us look even more silly than we have with the absurd amount of signings. The argument of if the rules are fair is irrelevant to this at the moment. To bring about change you don’t go and break the current rules and then ask for change. You Follow them and follow the process the league has in place and it’s clear there’s an appetite to make this change. We could have done our business very differently and I think have ultimately ended up punishing ourselves due to our panicking scatter gun approach and no very real threat of relegation. I wonder if we will go up for sale if we go down??

Disagree completely. The essence of the laws must be questioned to distinguish their purpose. On reflection, Forest were punished for ensuring their club was more sustainable by refusing the first few offers for BJ. By the word of the law we were wrong as this fell in another accounting period, but by the essence of the law we were in spirit of sustainability. I struggle to believe you think that Forest would be doing the right thing by taking an earlier deal which made them less sustainable financially for BJ.

@@sdal5427 I don’t think they should have taken an early deal. But I also don’t think we need to waste money on some players moved on within 6-12 months of being at the club. We can try and paper over the cracks in the rules which I agree need to be changed and discussed . However we also had the opportunity to decide the business we did and surely you can’t believe every signing we made was out of a necessity. The argument would be different if we needed 30 players and need to buy players such as sangare at approx 30m price tag we spent. But we didn’t. As an example on that signing alone we had 3/4 players competing for that position and 2 that have played more football for us than him since he signed. Please don’t interrupt it as me agreeing with the rules as I don’t I think they are geared to keep the big 6 elite and that’s not right. But equally I believe we could have been more savvy with signings, and business such as taking a shirt sponsor. It's comparing apples to oranges (and I say this as a Forest fan). Forest/Everton based on their accounts were in breach of FFP for the period being assessed and so have been dealt with accordingly. Chelsea weren't in breach of FFP for the same period, so no charge brought to them (but likely to be in breach for the next period, so if the rules don't change again, expect a points deduction for them in about a years time). Man City is a different kettle of fish. They've not breached FFP, but the accusations brought against them is years and years of accounting fraud, so those accounts which presents them as being FFP compliant, are in fact misstated. It's a far more complex case, will require a great deal of accounting forensics to determine the actual truth, and just by the sheer magnitude of the charges and amount of legal resource City will throw at it to defend themselves, no one should be expecting a resolution to their case anytime soon.

4 points isn't enough. They broke the rules, they've known this was coming for years and years before they got into the prem and they wouldn't have been in the prem if they didn't break the rule..

The rules being set up to protect Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal is what is causing so much grief.
You cannot get promoted into the premier league and not spend money if you want to be competitive. I am watching our cast offs do their absolute best playing for Sheffield United but they are not good enough. Jack Robinson's a great lad but he isn't Premier League.
We had to spend money to compete and this is out punishment. If Ipswich go up next season then they will also need to heavily invest otherwise they too will not be competitive with their lack of parachute payments.
It's getting more and more difficult got teams to do "a Leicester" because the structures penalise them for trying.
