0:45 That one was so good because it probably had some sort of crossover network inside (if albeit crude sometimes). The extra smoke was probably from a capacitor. (Capacitor pops are yummy, especially the ones that don't have the pressure relief vent. Those go BOOM!)

i have a plasma TV with all around better speakers for bass and treble than these. i dont like there sound, and there not remotely loud. if i pared them up with my sub i would not be able to hear the words without blowing them.
RockeyDAproductions these speakers move a ton! The surround speakers suck though. I think you must have plugged em in through the rca plug. It does not work that way with this model. Yeah they are quiet. They are 2 speakers. 8 and 16 ohms! High ohms means quiet sound. AIWA made even worse though.
RockeyDAproductions use the speaker wire instead if you ever have this model again. It will be better than the 16 ohm speaker plugged in through the rca jack. If used right these are a whole ton better. Also you blew the cap, not the speaker. Or both. The smoke was the cap going out. This is one of aiwas most known model.
Some of the cheaper ones were more muddy and tuned way too low. These on the other hand need adjustments on both highs and lows instead of just spamming the treble adjustment. No aiwa is a perfect speaker, but they were good for what they were. Better than that “sad” RCA speaker lol.

untill then you could check out the tv smash video i pulled off making yesterday (its impressive as yesterday was a work day, so i woke up at 4am, got home at 4:45pm, and did all the shit end eddied it before i went to bed.)
i got my variac as a free fix me up, just the transformer and the enamel failed. its also nice to have to bring up a vintage electronic slowly. i fix things just as much if not more than i break them. but fixing stuff is boring so a rarely do videos on it.
If you've enough money and speaker's to waste then damn it send it to my address and let me build a home theatre out of it ... Cause you know what ... Only the one who is hungry will know the value of a bit of food ... Atleast I don't have to build something from scrap and reuse them ...
