So good to have a video of you teaching/helping a friend out Hugh, very entertaining and very funny. Even funnier that they even schooled you with the tip on how best to set the screw in place to avoid stripping the thread! 🤣
This is awesome to watch, 3 years ago I found your channel and now I've been repairing both mine and my friends and families phones and devices. Thank you so much, your videos are amazing👍
my first screen replacement was 2 years ago on my iPhone 7 Plus. I already knew what to expect because i watch a couple of youtubers like you that fix electronics. Fast forward from then, I can fix most common electronics.
This was a great video with a lot of savory tips (screw layout with the bracket is genius). If you convince either of your parents to go on a similar learning experience, I wish you the best of luck!
Hey Hugh, I have the video suggestion for you. The pixel Fold has very terrible heat dissipation problems. You should see if you can do a mod of it and improve thermal throttling / heat dissipation on it and it could be something that would work on other phones too.
This video was fun for me. They way you faced when he put iPhone upside down on the heat plate 😂 and small mistakes like adhesive lineup. Such a great video 😁 loved it
3:28 I'm gonna need the name of whatever that clamp thing is that's holding the screen up cause that would make fixing phones so much easier. i usually have to find something to prop it up and its really annoying. also whoever designed it is an absolute genius.
Having replaced a battery in my iPhone 8, that’s about the furthest I’d go into the phone. The 6s battery repair is easy, but the 8 one is a bit harder. I struggled to get the Taptic Engine cable plugged back in, took me about 30 minutes of trying. After I got it in I jumped the gun and plugged in the screen before putting the seal on. I was about fed up at this point so I just ignored the seal. I’ll install it at some point.
I wish to be there myself your friend got trained better than any phone shops and in my opinion better than factory quality keep it going Hugh hoping to meet you one day good luck ❤
Your legitimately just a good person, I have seen so many other “tech repairers” that are complete jerks to friends and especially their own families simply because they get sick of being asked to repair things and as someone who is very loyal to friends and family it disgusts me to see people become so callous towards others
Well done!!!! Sorry about the volume key not working. At least the screen works. I guess the next best option to control volume is to use Assistive Touch.
Love your videos. I did a repair recently on my friend's iphone 12 mini he broke just to see if I could. I did everything right except the FaceID. I messed up and ribbon was destroyed. Feel so dumb with that one. Other than that everything else is in working order now.
i love your repair vids and phone guru learning to fix iphones. based off different phones repair videos, iphones are relatively easy to repair as the internal is not such a mess unlike android devices, but the worry with IOS is the system. i hope you can make more repair videos with other phone issues such as having no signal both sim and wifi and other stuff
This is so awesome! The guy repairing the phone has more patience than me. When i attempted the repair on my iPhone SE, I ended up ripping the touchid cable by mistake when I went to replace the battery. One thing I always do when replacing batteries is I drain them until the phone shuts off because half the time theres so much adhesive that I end up having to manhandle the battery out bending it in the process and with the battery being drained theres virtually 0 chance of me burning down the house
Loved this video, it's always great to teach new people on how to repair products like these phones. I've never owned an iPhone but I do agree that there are way too many screws involved, as well as of different sizes and heads. Why do you need 4 different types of screw (Pentalobe, Philips, Tri-wing and Stand-off) for one device?
She did well, that many screws, brackets and other fiddly bits are no doubt daunting for pretty much everyone. That bit about backing out the screws to make sure they're seated correctly for driving them into place is simply good practice anyway, only thing was the prying needed a bit of guidance. Just a shame that the volume button didn't fix that issue, otherwise a really good repair. I'd say an 8.5/10 overall
@@MuscleCarLover Haley is a man's name as well, retard. And if your other metric is how soft-spoken he is then you may as well call Hugh a tranny as well.
Hey Hugh, let’s say you have a phone which is the same phone and iPhone SE two, but the home button doesn’t work any more due to water damage, is it fixable by replacing it with another one? And can you make a video about how to do that? 18:01
A few questions My first question is why is everybody’s favorite part the sponger Also, how can the battery break the phone if you did not disconnect it first Why do you need a plate to take home button? Why do you need to take almost every single component out of the phone just to get to one cable for the power or the volume up button? But last, but not least do you mind fixing up a phone for me, please?
Great video as usual! I have an Asus K55N laptop from 2013 that doesn't power on anymore. The AC adapter doesn't power it, so I bought another AC adapter. That didn't work. In fact, the battery that was still good before the laptop stopped working failed to turn the computer on. I think it could be a motherboard issue. What are your thoughts, and is it fixable or replaceable? Thanks for your help.
diagnosing remotely is pretty hard, a few possible options would be that the battery is preventing the device from starting (so it might start if you disconnect the battery), that the DC jack is broken (hard to tell without having the device in hand) or that there's a component-level issue on the motherboard. To diagnose something like this, I would usually use a multimeter - but that also requires some knowledge of what to look for. Would be best if you take it to a local repair shop, they should be able to tell you what is wrong with it really quick (if they're good at what they do). Good luck!
I enoy doing this with friends and their PC's - although the parts are bigger (in desktops especially), its fun watching them go "so how does this part fit into the space of the bigger part?" (3.5 in hdd swap to 2.5 in SSD). "We brought a bracket remember!" - "oh yes so it makes the ssd drive the same size as the hdd drive!" :) I then go on to tease them thats hdd is all you need to say, kinda like like ATM, not ATM machine ;)
Amazing how openly he speaks for the first time in front of so many viewers, I think I wouldn't be able to make a sound. And speaking of screws, often it also helps to take a picture of the inside of the phone, print it out, and place the screws in their corresponding spots, especially when you're scatterbrained like me, it's a great solution.
That's the programmer that Hugh has featured before on older phones - it preserves features such as True Tone, which would otherwise be disabled if the screen was replaced.
the JCID definitely works on newer gens too. It depends on what your goal is. Prevent the unknown screen message? That will only be achieved by transferring over the IC from the old screen to the new one via soldering. But everything else - it does well.
The main issue was not showing to start it before pasting the glues of the screen as well as closing it all with the screws again. You jinx it... So many times I have to open the device because I did sth wrong! ahah But as always, great educative video!
How do you repair an iphone SE 2020 that has a depleted battery, when you can't buy original iphone batteries. Only option seems to be to pay $150NZD to get one of apples authiorised companies to replace it which is about 50% of the value of the phone. It is like they want people to buy a new one when the battery wears out.
Hi Hugh, do you know the case about Wiltech? He is a colombian influencer who was sued by Apple because his independent repairment business. They are threating him to sending to jail if he does not cease his activities.
Hey, I just wanted to know if an 3rd party repair can actually fix my 13 pro. The issue is actually eh like Unable to Activate hehe because I'm willing to take the risk. I went to an apple store but they want to charge half of my phones price like no I cant afford that

Hats off to you Hugh for spreading your knowledge to others. I really admire that.
The backturning of the screws until you hear a click is a tip my dad gave me when I was a kid. Very important and glad it was mentioned here. 😊😊
Completely agree, I take old toys/tech apart and I hate self tapping screws.

Cannot believe that Apple made fixing phones a specialised art work.
Good to see you found someone that makes you smile like that Hugh!

Interesting to see the internal layout of the SE 2022. Externally very similar to even an iPhone 6 but quite a lot of redesign ‘under the hood’.
I learned a new technical term for iPhone repair, "fiddledy bits" 🤙🏽
