Bobby never disappoints. He always supplies the icing on the cake. Two handsome, talented men with blue eyed soul delivery we all took for granted as teens in the sixties. Thank you for appreciating.
This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Try "Unchained Melody" with Bobby Hatfield doing it solo. Best version ever!
I love The Righteous Brothers! I love that they allowed each other the chance to do solos. Bobby Hatfield’s “Unchained Melody” is probably my favorite song.
I am 47 so yes this stuff came out even way before my time. LOL. But cause of my parents I grew up on so much music. My dad being a HUGE country music fan, my mom loving music more like this. My older brother into metal. I am a lover of all of that thanks to my family. That said I also developed my own love of different styles. With all the knowledge I have of styles, I fell in love again with the old school stuff and learned to appreciate it so much more. Like this song for example....there are no theatrics, nothing that helps their voices.......just pure raw talent. Same as Frankie Valli, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valenz, Billie Holiday, and so on. The purity of singers and musicians / groups back then is amazing.
The most requested and most played song on the radio in the twentieth century, performed by the greatest male duo of all time! How could you go wrong??? :)
Great reaction! There are so many things that are impressive about these guys, but the 1 that really stands out is that they didn't have a 'band', they sang to the venue's house orchestra where ever they went, so there was no familiarity, I find that amazing.
That video is a hybrid of the visuals from a live performance on a show called Shindig and the audio of the studio version. (The version with the original sound is included in the compilation of all their Shindig performances.) When Phil Spector first brought them this song, Bobby (the tenor) was a bit miffed and asked, "What am I supposed to do while Medley is singing this song?" Spector said, "Go to the bank." It became the most played song on US radio in the 20th century.
Thanks for reacting to this one- love these guys! Bill Medley (deeper voiced one) would go on many years later to do the song "Time Of My Life" from 'Dirty Dancing'. By the way, one of the long haired backup singers in this one is a seventeen year old Cher. One of my favorites from them (besides "Unchained Melody") is "I Just Want To Make Love To You".
Unchained Melody by one of the Righteous Brothers Bobby Hatfield ( the blonde guy) the tall guy is Bill Medley. Sometimes they did solos under the Righteous Brothers. Other songs: Soul And Inspiration, Ebb Tide, All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You, Rock N Roll Heaven, You'll Never Walk Alone, Little Latin Lupe and many others. Their songs were called Blue-Eyed Soul.
Yes u do hear them. Bill Hedley is 81yrs old & still singing.the last time was on the album & the movie 🎬 dirty dancing, singing a duet to the song titled, "I had the time of my life."
Love it!! New subscriber here. A couple reaction requests: (1) The Righteous Brothers "You'll Never Walk Alone" on The Ed Sullivan Show (2:26) and (2) The Righteous Brothers {I Just Wanna Make Love}.wmv (3:24). One more: (3) Elvis Presley You've Lost That Lovin Feeling Live 1970 (4:13). Elvis's version is totally different but also amazing. Don't compare.... just enjoy.
Your appreciation really shows on your face and I love it. They also did "Unchained Melody." VoicePlay did a gorgeous cover of that one with John Pinto - ruclips.net/video/eyoYk7dG1W4/видео.html
Now you need to hear them sing You'll Never Walk Alone.
