I really enjoy these panel discussions, because I always feel like I learn something. This was the best discussion Ive seen so far. I agree with Dal about having to find new ways to shock people. I also agree with the comments made about fashion writing/journalism. It seems like people just write that they loved something and thats it. Its like (some) writers arent really taking time to criticize or write intellectually. Discussions like these make me love showstudio so much.
such a great panel. i forgot who said it and i don't have the time to rewind back but it was a very interesting point made about how when you remove a eurocentric viewpoint, things are very different even boiling down to how the colour white in japan usually connotes death rather than black. im not even part of the fashion industry at all but discussions like these make me love 'fashion' as an art and seeing people talk about it with such passion is such a joy to watch.
I like that in this panel, there was considerably LESS talk about the structure of fashion and about life, the future generations and the potential hardships they will face, and youth culture. Leave it to Rei Kowakubo to do that for you.
my favorite panel so far... A++++ ... I think red is blood, it's about war and death... is about the times we are living in... it may be too easy to go there, as rei is never that obvious... but at the same time makes sense to me to make that interpretation... it could partially be a political statement aimed at a western world in war turmoil...
What is with the hype of Gosha Rubchinskiy? Beside his post-Soviet background, his stuff to me is pretty much like the indie culture of 2000s. Gus van Sant can do it, Hedi can do it, so what's special about him?
Favourite showstudio panel ever so much time for Lucy Norris so informed and interesting
Brilliant collection and brilliant panel discussion.
