Thanks for the inspiration on the camouflage pattern. I recently finished up an aluminum cat buildout that I used the same technique to apply the camouflage with a solid base coat and 4 light to dark camouflage paint colors, Flat Khaki, Flat Army Green, Flat Earth Brown & Flat Black. Turned out great thanks to what I learned from this video.
This brings back fond memories. My dad bought an old fiberglass johnboat and a sears and roebuck 7 hp motor. After a year or so we upgraded to a 14 aluminum john boat from Montgomerie Ward and we got a 10 hp evinrude motor brand new. The boat cost $700 and the motor was $2,300. That was in the early 80s. We had a lot of great times in that boat.
Camo pattern came out absolutely awesome ! they make this gator glade/super slick epoxy that is typically used on airboats or aluminum boats , I think that would be a really good touch to “Square one”
Thanks, man. I was thinking of doing similar, called SteelFlex. They originally were from my hometown back in Miami, and coincidentally they moved a few miles away from me here in town. So I'm likely going to buy some of that for the bottom of this boat.
Thanks, man! I'll get back to Jon boat videos here soon, just trying to make the next vid be a big step in the transformation. I don't want to do 3 painting videos back to back, haha.
Nah. That’s definitely wrong. Always go lightest to darkest. Haha. The technique I am doing is meant to go lightest to darkest. If you are using plastic stencils that are cut out of a sheet then it would be the opposite. This technique of using a tree branch definitely needs to be lightest to darkest to create depth. Otherwise it’ll look like a photo negative.
I was alway taught that black is not a natural color in nature it was just a cover to use as a filler. Maybe I’ll try you’re way next time I have to redo my camo on my canoe
Out of all the vids I like this best I’m thinking of spraying my bivvy/fishing tent the material is already green like the army green from rust oleum Which colours would you recommend I’m thinking deep forest green, khaki and flat black
so, the best way to get the right effect is to only use colors darker than your base coat. You can then come in with a lighter color to do highlights, but it shouldn't be sprayed on a branch. And remember, start with the lightest color and end on the darkest, then go back and do highlights with a brighter color.
I just got a Meyers 14ft semi deep V....You made up my mind on the pattern I want .🤣 Outstanding job bro, your boat looks great. Did you clear coat it with anything? Thank you for making and sharing this tutorial.
I was thinking about that all day. Not necessarily a car clear coat, but some sort of matte finish. I woudn't want it to be glossy as it will scare off ducks. But I'd like a uniform matte finish.
🌴 hey Eric , just got a winch at harbor freight $30, for my trailer, ya you gotta have a red on there somewhere, is the grab bar necessary 🤔 or just something to get in the way , but if you put a cover on the boat the bar will help shed water, remember your trying to put that boat on a diet and keep it light weight, if it’s a family boat build what you think is best for your needs , and comfort, will you add a steak out pole ? Or just use a push pole , west marine has 16’ push poles for around $ 350 bucks, me 👈🏻 I went the cheap route I bought an aluminum pool net extension pole 8’ expands to 16’ but you need to make ends for it and if you drop it in the water it sinks ☹️ waiting to see you next vid 👊🏼✌🏼👍🏼
Thankfully I have a brand new MHX pole that is like 18' long. I havent even built it yet. Also, the grab bar is just a creature comfort. makes it great for running winding creeks standing up. But who knows, maybe it's better without it.
Sent you items off the list for the boat ... you know ... those sabine skiffs have that grab bar that comes of the side of the hull, looks like an L ... or half of a long handle bar .... you might be able to use those holes that you filled in with stanless screws to attach something similiar for a grab bar ... run a small one from the side instead of the center.
haha, you and I are on the same page. I was thinking the same thing. utilize the holes that are already there. Which is why I haven't put the new hardware I bought for it. I was also thinking of getting aluminum rivets to put instead for a long term fix. Stainless does work well if properly sealed where the metals aren't touching each other, but there's a chance it can corrode over time if it does. As for the wish list items, thank you so much! That really helps move these projects along, especially when I am planning and taking on various projects at the same time. I'm currently showing the jon boat stuff but some of the other projects are already underway. I will likely show something else next week, and the next jon boat video will have a lot more happen in one video and finally get this thing on the water.
Not a problem ... the little boat is coming along nicely, I will probably be picking up a pond/creek boat in the future so I am interested to see what you do to this one .... Have you ever thought about putting some of your art work on the Orvis Helios 3 fly rods ? They have those big white areas on the butt section just asking for something to be put on there ... I have the H3 5D and 6D and they are great little rods ... I am thinking Orvis has a commercial agreement with someone to burn fish art into corks, but your art work would look better. If you need a guinea pig let me know and you could try it out on one of mine ... keep up the great work ... wife and I just moved into a new house in Jan and there is so much work, I feel your pain.
The boat is looking great. Did you find the leak? How about painting the redfish on the front deck? I can't wait to see it finished. What is the truck story? you didn't sell it did you? Love your art and your videos!
Absolutely beautiful. Does not even look like the same boat.
Thank you
FL Camo should give you a contract for a new pattern! That came out sick! It would make an awesome duck hunting boat too with that pattern 👌🏻
Where did it go?😮
I like fish logo I thought about buck head ,wolf head, punisher head blended in logos.
Best camo vid I’ve seen
Thanks!

Awesome! I'm so glad it worked out for you!
I wouldn't worry about bottom flex seal and leave it.
*Spray* *spray* happy little fronds 🎨 👨🏽🎨
haha
I'm not usually a fan of camo paint, but that looks good. That's a cool method. Thanks
Picked up a 13ft indian river otter canoe I'm planning on doing the same thing on..
Buy Total boat aluminum boat paint. Great coverage and color
Thanks for the tip!
Great vido, THANKS for showing me the process. This is one of the best videos I have seen, and I've been looking at a bunch of them.
happy to help! thanks for dropping a comment.
Lmao I was thinking ‘damn pretty nice can control’ then I clicked on ur channel and it makes sense. Graff and outdoors 👌🏽👌🏽
haha thanks, Subscribe if you didn't! I will be merging more of the two in videos.

That's awesome. My first jon boat was a 12' Sears Gamefisher.

Would that prevent paint from coming off from rough use? I would think the spray paint would come off easily.
Looks awesome bro!
Thanks, Bro!
Looks great!
Thanks!
SWEET ARSS 🤙🤙🤙
Really great!
Enjoying following the boat build. I have an Jon boat I want to similar with for some smaller waters. I’m excited to see where it goes.
Thanks, man! I'll get back to Jon boat videos here soon, just trying to make the next vid be a big step in the transformation. I don't want to do 3 painting videos back to back, haha.
Great video
Good job like the pattern. The only thing I would do differently is put the black first. Always go darkest to light with the paint

@@Eric.Estrada that makes sense thanks for the info 👍🏻
Looks awesome!!!! Custom Estrada paint job. You should sign it
haha, I'll drop a redfish somewhere on there and sign it.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Wanting to camo mine and yours looks amazing! Nice job and thanks for the tips!
Good luck! It’s a fun project. Haha
So in what order did you apply the colors? Tan base then army green then olive then black, or what? That boat turned out BAD ASS!
Yes sir. Start with the lightest color and work your way to the darkest. That’s how you crate the depth in the pattern. 🤙🏼
How did it hold up after?
It’s been great
How’s it holding up?
It’s been great. I used to do this to my duck boats, dragged them through the marsh. It holds up great. Better than one would expect.
I was looking for a video about "camo... I like this way better than what I was looking for
That's great to hear! Glad that I was able to help!
I just got a Meyers 14ft semi deep V....You made up my mind on the pattern I want .🤣 Outstanding job bro, your boat looks great. Did you clear coat it with anything? Thank you for making and sharing this tutorial.
Awesome! I haven’t clear coated it, but I am considering it. It does look nice after a rain shower. Haha
@@Eric.Estrada Just rapped up my pond jumper, I want to thank you again for the inspiration and tutorial. It turned out great.
Looking fantastic! Not sure how the redfish will blend in! Or will it be black color only?
The redfishi will likely be bright and bold like my regular stuff, haha. just kind of like a signature piece.
I wonder how shooting some car clear coat out the gun would look over the rattle can paint.

@@Eric.Estrada I think a matte clearcoat would be awesome on it.
Told you. Home Depot!
haha, it was actually Lowe's that had it.
@Eric Estrada Sounds good man! It ended up looking great. For sure you'll make some bucks when you sell it!

Not yet, that'll likely be in the next video. Al told me where he belives it's leaking from, so I will go ahead and try to locate and repair it.
