    Fair warning truck bed liner will help with abrasion, but the drag is insane. I lost almost ten mph when I painted the hull with truck bed liner. So you have to decide is the durability worth the sacrifice of speed.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +1

      It was like that when I bought it. I assume the previous owner had a bigger outboard on it & not enough transom to support it. Their “fix” was add those aluminum bracings. My sturdy transom did the job!

    Could you please tell me how to prep the bottom before using the acetone, and how to use the acetone to prep. I'm a total newbie to this. This is my first ( boat) jon boat ever.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +2

      Depending on the condition of the boat and the condition of the paint, I would recommend removing the old paint from the bottom with either a paint stripper or sanding it off. If you bring it to the bear aluminum you’ll need to use the self etching primer on any bare aluminum on your boat. Find me on Instagram at the same name and we can link up there to talk more! Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing your progress.

  • @porkchop659

    You need to rotate the air cap horns 90 degrees if you are going side to side, the way you have it the fan would be best for a up and down spray pattern.

    How has the bed liner and paint held up over time with wear and tear?

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +1

      So far so good. There are a few scratches on the paint from me working on it and using it. I’ve only launched the boat from land once (not straight into water from a ramp & trailer) and the bed liner is fine. I would assume repeated use like that might wear it some...one of the previous comments recommended gator glide which is on the agenda soon!

  • @kennethyearber9746

    Will the bed liner do a decent job of sealing any minor leaks like in the seams?

  • @jimboneutron8399
    @jimboneutron8399 3 года назад +2

    Just remember the purpose of bed liner is to be tough yes but also grippy and of u go shallow it definitely wont help one bit, plus all the drag. Its worth it to get gator glide, it tough and its slicker than snot. There is just some things worth doing right and this is one of them. Bed liner is great on the inside though, just don’t use black

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for the support and advice! At the time, gator glide would have been double what I paid for the boat (for real, no exaggeration) but the more I put in to the boat, it’s definitely an upgrade I’m going to look in to.

    • @jimboneutron8399
      @jimboneutron8399 3 года назад +2

      Flip My Jon Boat i get the price difference, i live by the buy once cry once thing lol. Costs more upfront but the performance gain is worth the money for me. Its just a preference, alot of people dont get into mud as much as i do so for some gator glide isn’t worth it but sometimes my ducks spots have almost no water so i have to skate across the mud so for me personally the gator glide is a must have

      Flip My Jon Boat ah gotcha! You notice any difference? Starting to prep my boat this weekend for paint. Going with almost the exact same layout you did. Can’t wait. I appreciate you putting this out there. Definitely helpful

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +1

      I’m glad (and humbled) I helped. I took it out last weekend on a local pond, no boat ramp and slid it in. I didn’t see any “damage” after getting it back on the trailer. I did lightly sand it before applying the truck bed liner...I don’t think I mentioned that earlier or in the video. Keep me updated on your Jon Boat!

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 года назад +1

      Paint is holding up well! I’ve washed the boat a few times and it’s perfect. There was some scratching where I was pulling my floor panels out - but I think that’s to be expected with any paint in high abrasive areas. I’ve heard reviews from other followers they’re hesitant to use Majic paint but it’s held up well so far.

    Dude, do long passes with the spray gun. You would have been done SO MUCH faster and much more even coverage. You should be able to cover your entire wing span per section. You would have sprayed that in no time, had much better coverage and wasted less paint.
